Cool screens. Reminds me of Dishonored.

Builder....no, Karras be praised!

Took those taffers long enough for a proper reveal, as the game was first announced in 2009 already, with basically no information on it at all since then.

And at least Garrett will be back, which was my main concern. Wonder when it will take place though, as I can't see Garrett be his good old thief-y self in a post Thief 3 world.

Also, that second screenshot gave me a very Dishonored-like vibe when I first saw it (the Boyle party), which is a little silly I guess, seeing as how the Thief series was one of the main inspirations for Dishonored.

Yes, finally!

Garrett get the hell out of your rented apartment! It's time to get back to work!

(Also where is Garrett's mechanical eye? Maybe this is set before he gained it? Maybe I'm missing it and the artwork just doesn't have a clear emphasis on it.)

It's the series that invented the stealth genre. Now go play them!

Deadly Shadows was a good game but still suffered from being console focused. Here's hoping to make it more like Metal Age.

The eye is there, those specific screens just don't show it

I'm dubious about the ninja mask, but sure looks pretty. Finally!!! Now I have to go back and finish 2 and 3.

@Nordicus

Thought so.

And on another note those screens just look so good. If the city actually ends up looking like that concept art then we're in for a real visual treat. The current screens at least suggest they're already heading in that direction.

Blecch, hoping that will have a toggle.

The character model was made by the same artist who did Altair for AC.  Maybe he confused Garrett for an assassin.  How do you blend into a crowd when you're obviously trying to conceal your face?  Of course Garrett's main MO is never to be seen at all, but still.

Lol the only stealth game I ever played was MGS, and I'm so stealthy at that the highest I ever got was the thrid rank as at some point I leave a trail of bodies behind me.

Eidos had a toggle for highlighting objects and such in Deus Ex: Human Revolution, so that gives me some hope. Although its a different team than the Deus Ex team working on Thief.

I think I'm going to puke now.

Focus lights up the screen and highlights pipes you can climb or candles you can put out to darken the room. As you upgrade your Focus you will get a bigger radius of things to see. We have a fingerprints system that will give you hints on which drawers are worthwhile to look in. Every drawer in the room is accessible, but you use your Thief skills like CSI to figure out where the valuables are.

In previous Thief games, Garrett used a rope arrow to reach high points. Now he has the Claw, a throwable grapple that attaches to certain points in the environment and allows Garrett to get out of sight quickly.

Eidos was vague about how faithful it would remain to Thief's original lore, but did say that it would tone down many of the series' magical elements. Players won't likely encounter undead monsters or prowling dinosaurs as they did in the early Thief titles. However, Thief's concept art clearly shows that one of Garrett's eyes is a different color than the other, so it's possible that Eidos considers at least part of Garrett's original history as canon.

Well of course they're going to consider the mechanical eye as canon in a first person game, it'd make dumbing the series down that much easier. I'm only waiting to hear about the inevitable upgrade system including x-ray vision, visible line of sight, slow time and patrol path highlighting

Are you really that naive?

I'm already viewing this as yet another contemptible reboot
of a respected and creative piece of pioneering "art" as seen through
today's homogenizing and unimaginative eyes. I mean...a reboot worked so
well for Hitman, right? They got that one spot on target, didn't
they?

Quest compass
enemy radar.

No.

I didn't mind that games like dishonored had features like these because the game was obviously designed in a way that encouraged exploration so in the case of that game the features didn't hurt it one bit. Everyone was happy with that, me, the thief fans, and even the retards who couldn't find caious coisades in Balmora were happy.

Obviously some people are going to be upset that they're "modernizing" certain aspects of the game so that you no longer have to control the character with an abacus via an intricate pulley system, find game clues by using a substitution cipher on the entirety of Ulysses by hand, or partake in whatever other archaic, masochistic, "classic" "gameplay" elements that the Master Race are for whatever reason in love with.

What the **** does killing 3 people as a bad ass ninja (implied in interview) or basing a game around cheat codes (the special abilities of dishonored, marketed as a spirtual successor of sorts) have to do with stealth?

I never played Thief, but this game doesn't really tickle my fancy like Dishonored. Of course, i know Thief is an inspiration for Dishonored along with Deus Ex and Bioshock, but this seems rather lame tbh. What's up with, and I quote, "Thief skills like CSI to figure out where the valuables are"? Huh???

How about just friggin checking drawers for loot? Or saying something is empty?

I will keep an eye on it, but honestly, not that interested. And I'm fine with them clearly stealing artstyle from Dishonored's Lady Boyle party since Dishonored was influenced by Thief.

Thief had an awful lot of hidden nooks and crannies full of loot. There was a mansion level in Thief 2 that had this entire back hallway linking to secret doors and such. It was nuts. Sorry it doesn't tickle your fancy, the game isn't for everyone.

Here's hoping to make it more like Metal Age.

This 100%. It felt like the best of the series.

I'm looking forward to this game, no doubt about it. And yeah, the navigation is probably getting a toggle.

I just heard story details.

It takes place during the plague, and has the Lord______________ as a big bad.

Sound familiar?

Looks like it'll have its own version of The Heart as well.

Looting in crevices and interconnected hallways to hidden caches and rooms sound great. Awesomebutton telling me where everything is is not, though.
