I find that, for the most part, reviewers will tend to prefer the PC version over the console version.  I can't really argue with them because I don't play any games on the PC.  I can, however, say that I will never enjoy a game on a PC as much as I would on a console.  That's not say that I think that PC games are of a lower quality than console games.  It's a simple fact that I have always been a console gamer, and playing with a controler feels thousands of times more natural to me.  I have had people tell me that playing on a computer is superior to playing on a console and argue with me abou it, but the fact  is that I don't enjoy it as much, so it's better for me.  Does anyone else have any thoughts on the subject?

They're basically different games with the same pieces. FWIK, the PC game combat allows much deeper use of tactics while the console version is a sophisticated version of Gauntlet.

Playing with a mouse and keyboard is in all ways awkward to me, and that kills a game for me. I'm not saying that I think console gaming is superior. I just think it's better for me, and I'm not much of a tactical thinker anyway.

The only real difference is that you can only focus on one character at a time and the others are fend-for-themselves. It's much harder to coordinate them.

Even though console gamers generally have a better attitude than PC gamers, I think PC gaming is still superior to console gaming, though not in every respect.

There are plenty of console exclusives that make consoles worth owning but for cross-platform games, PC's are the best.

As for retro gaming. Actually playing on an old console is much more fun than playing with an emulator.

It realy depends on what you enjoy, i love my console but i am aware pc games get some great benifits like mods and certain games get better graphics. But nothing beats lying in bed with my gf snuggled up to me while i play ME on the 360.

To elaborate, I notice PC gamers tend to blame console gamers for the decline in quality of the PC market when in reality it is their own greed and apathy towards the economics behind the industry that have resulted in a more console-centric market.

Console games sell better than PC games so how can you blame developers and publishers from making consoles their priorities?
If it concerns you so much then maybe PC gamers can offer an incentive to make PC gaming more lucrative for the industry.  You know, like actually buying their games?

Bottom line, PC gamers need to stop giving console gamers crap and I say that as someone who prefers PC games.

I don't blame anyone, what is ,is,nothing more nor less.nor do I speculate on or generalize nor point fingers nor blame any group or groups of people with outlandish speculation based on nothing but personal opinions.Thats plain silly and frankly lacking in any rational  known facts other than what one person wants to use as nothing more than a way to look at something that may not have any factual basis on the subject as to why or why not a particular genre of games has declined. all in all its just nonsense pure and simple.
and I strictly use a pc but don't put down console gamers nor make up supposed facts against them or any other type of group.

Interesting... I'm the exact opposite. I've always been a WASD-and-mouse PC player for as long as I can remember, and just never got the hang of console controls.

I guess I've always played FPS or RTS type games, so I never got FPS aiming with a joystick, and took multiple select with my mouse for granted...

Well wonderful. I'm glad that you've shown me that not all PC gamers are idiots, thieves, and WOW ****s.

Wish there were more PC gamers like you where I work.

Borsch....we all know your far left views by now mate BUT:

Given the current generation trend of the modern gamer, more are casual rather than what could be classified as 'hardcore'....more women are now playing, more kids etc.

And statistically, the console caters to the kids and woman far more than men and said hardcore gamers. don't believe me, take a look at the last 500 games releaeed for the console, and then name 25 that are 'adult hardcore' orientated, just look at the Wii as an example.

The pc has always been historically for the more older and serious gamer, so while yes the market is in the consoles, it depends on what market your actually marketing for...

And yes I will say (and upset you) that the decline is PC gaming is SOLELY down to the modern youth generation who want to sit on their comfy sofa with 5 friends and have a ****** up...

prsonally I have no interest in that. MMO's aside, PC gaming is considered a solitary experience, which is why generally, the more 'serious' games come out on the PC and not the console, unless of course, like with DA, the greedy publisher get their way.

Now while I constantly bash consoles (and I dont own one)...I used to love playing driving and fighting games with my mates back in the day on a console, thats what a console does best...for any serious game...pc all the way.

Far left views? I don't remember ever posting my political views on this website but if you must know I am actually to the right.
I appreciate all of the useless, un-sourced statistics you posted but perhaps you can try explaining what your point is exactly?
Are you trying to say "Hey look, PC gamers are more mature than console gamers?!"
If so, you've just proven your own immaturity by holding up gaming, a non-productive leisure activity as a measurement of one's maturity level.
Seriously, who gives a crap about demographics? Are games some sort of popularity contest? We play them for entertainment's sake, that is it.

I can understand you wanting to upset me after I made a fool of you in my last thread where you claimed that cocaine isn't dangerous. You'd be wasting your time though.
I grew up with consoles you see. I have until only recently taken up the PC platform as an alternative medium and I only see it as a way to play better versions of games that are on consoles. So long as that continues to deliver, I'm satisfied.

I saw this game initially on a PS3 @ a friends and was planning to get it on PS3 myself however I had a look at reviews which made it clear that the controls are much better on PC and as I have a powerful gaming PC I went for the PC version. This had the added bonus of the cheaper and immediately playable download version from Game.co.uk. Brilliant!

If the question is which version of Dragon Age is better, console or PC, the answer is quite easy: PC. Too many controls to cover on the limited number of buttons a console has. Dragon Age is partly RTS, and RTS games have always sucked on consoles.

If the question is what is better in general, console or PC, it's the same as asking whether Mac or PC is better, or whether beer or wine is better. False dichotomy. People will always quibble over their favorite, or what they tried first, while the rest of us settle on the real correct answer: Both. Both have strengths for different genres, both have weaknesses. So much of those strength and weaknesses are optional personal values that picking one over the other in a generalization is just ridiculous.

I prefer PC to consoles, but I recognize that consoles have made video games accessible for a lot of people who wouldn't have bothered otherwise.

Consoles are good, I just prefer the computer.

@Thyme41: The question is whether you like PCs or consoles better. I know that both have their pros and cons, and I am not trying to get anyone to prove one is better. I just want people to tell their opinions in an interesting and friendly discussion. I prefer consoles. Some prefer PCs. We both have our reasons for thinking so, and neither of us are wrong. I just was to know what you guys think.

PC of course. I have a controller for my PC if I need one (racing or sports). Otherwise, a PC is superior in almost every aspect. Better graphics, better performance, larger games, better community, etc etc etc.

The only reason I own a 360 is because I wanted Rock Band, lol.

Although the marketing goes to consoles and a lot of games are being primarily designed for the consoles,. the pc version generally is better barring very few awful ports such as Resident Evil 4 or Saints Row 2. Even a port as bad as Saints Row 2 will still potentially be better on a pc with a quad core. There are inherently factually based advantages pc's have over consoles such as higher levels of anti-aliasing, higher resolutions and higher levels of anisotropic-filtering, reduced loading times and as well better frame-rate as well as reduced game prices, typicaly over here being £10 cheaper than there console counterparts. Also certain games benefit from the modding community. Theres also the preference of mouse and keyboard VS a control pad. To be honest, I would rather have my eye's pecked out by a crow than play a first person shooter with a control pad, or an RTS for the matter. While I think the media is trying to hold the pc's head under-water to slowly drown it, it is over-all still unmatched as a gaming platform in my opinion.

Playing games on a PC doesn't preclude using a gamepad. Obviously some games have too complicated an interface for a gamepad but apart from exceptions like Dragon Age where the interface is cut down they're generally not released on consoles anyway. Any game that's multiplatform or could be is likely to support gamepads.

I'm a PC gamer primarily because of the games. Consoles tend to miss out on the more in-depth games that I enjoy the most.

What puzzles me is why we don't see any under-TV gaming PCs. It would require support from game developers in supporting older hardware (say, mid-range stuff for six years) and implementing split-screen, turn-based and multi-controller multiplayer where appropriate as well as some sort of controller icons on boxes but given that the difficult bit, the hardware support, would greatly benefit them with laptop users anyway it seems odd that it doesn't seem to be happening.

For games like this where I know there's a mod community, I purchase on PC.

However, I am also a console gamer and have a PS3 and 360.

It really depends on the kind of game. For FPS I prefer playing on the PC since it's a lot easier to aim with a mouse than a joystick. Anything else, I prefer consoles. As you said, nothing to do with which of the two ups the quality of the game, and assuming that we're taking about the bare nakedness of both (A PC strictly meaning mouse and keyboard while console strictly meaning controller), my hands just feel more at home with a controller. Not only that, but when I use my PC, I tend to slouch and sit too close to the monitor. Very uncomfortable D:

Unlike with a console. I can even lie down while playing, hahaha.

Technically consoles are far more limited compared to PCs. When first released, consoles might be equal to a high end gaming machine, but then, after a year, they fall behind.

However, since big budget games must be multi-plattform titles to maximize profits, the game has to be designed with consoles in mind.

This brings with it certain limitations that would otherwise not exist in a pure PC-game.

1. Mouse control - nothing a console has can compare to the flexibility and accuracy that a mouse offers.

2. Memory - the lack of memory in today's consoles is reflected by the limited scope of levels the console can handle. Consoles force designers to make tube-levels with limited spaces and visibility. A console just cannot handle the vast exteriors potentially offered by games.

3. Moddability - The ability to alter and expand a games horizon is limited to a PC, for obvious reasons.

4. Graphics-Power - similar to the lack of memory, the visuals that modern consoles are capable of are very limited compared to what a modern GPU has to offer. The XBox 360 was released in early 2006....approximately 4 years ago. All the technical progress that has been made since cannot be harvested until the next console generation gets under way.

Now these are just a few disadvantages a console has compared to a PC. Now it obviously has advantages as well or they wouldn't be so successful.

Also, this development is no ones fault. It's just the way the industry has developed. No individual can be blamed.

However, now it might be easier to understand the bitterness of some PC gamers towards consoles, as it seriously limits the progression (especially the technical progression) of their hobby.
