Technically consoles are far more limited compared to PCs. When first released, consoles might be equal to a high end gaming machine, but then, after a year, they fall behind.



However, since big budget games must be multi-plattform titles to maximize profits, the game has to be designed with consoles in mind.



This brings with it certain limitations that would otherwise not exist in a pure PC-game.



1. Mouse control - nothing a console has can compare to the flexibility and accuracy that a mouse offers.

2. Memory - the lack of memory in today's consoles is reflected by the limited scope of levels the console can handle. Consoles force designers to make tube-levels with limited spaces and visibility. A console just cannot handle the vast exteriors potentially offered by games.

3. Moddability - The ability to alter and expand a games horizon is limited to a PC, for obvious reasons.

4. Graphics-Power - similar to the lack of memory, the visuals that modern consoles are capable of are very limited compared to what a modern GPU has to offer. The XBox 360 was released in early 2006....approximately 4 years ago. All the technical progress that has been made since cannot be harvested until the next console generation gets under way.



Now these are just a few disadvantages a console has compared to a PC. Now it obviously has advantages as well or they wouldn't be so successful.



Also, this development is no ones fault. It's just the way the industry has developed. No individual can be blamed.



However, now it might be easier to understand the bitterness of some PC gamers towards consoles, as it seriously limits the progression (especially the technical progression) of their hobby.

I generally prefer PC for most since it's more private and I don't have to fight for the TV and worry about people cutting in front of me... Not to mention that I'm more familiar with the controls... But I do love both forms of gaming, as long as the games are good.
