Someone clarify this for me: Is the engine for Inquisition, frostbite 2 or frostbite 3, I keep hearing from various sites that it's frostbite 2 while others say it's frostbite 3.

It was originally billed as a FB 2 game when it was first announced, but when Frostbite moved over to 3, so did DAI.

A game that can't be modded is worth far, far less. Basic bugfixes escape paid programmers.

The Fires Above trailer has the Frostbite 3 logo next to the Bioware and Ea logos.

DA:I is Frostbite 3.  This was confirmed early in the development cycle.  I'm amazed that anyone is even still asking the question.  <shakes head>

Fair enough, but still seems pointless to comment on this thread now :P
These days I'm sure everyone is aware that It's on Frostbite 3

True, except for people who google "Dragon Age" and "Frostbite" and get this thread as one of the first results, then see that it's a question.  (Or it was up through the last post before mine...   )

Also true!

Btw to get back on topic (even though the topic is months old)
Have we heard anything recently abou modding? Or has it been confirmed to not be an option?

It is still highly unlikely that they will be making a toolkit. Frostbite is still difficult to mod. I wouldn't expect much at all in the way of modding.

No one expects mods in the near term, since every single statement from BioWare/DICE/EA says, "No SDK is being planned."

My personal opinion is that, as with the Mass Effect  series, sooner or later people will figure out how to make some minimal cosemetic changes and maybe how to inject cutscenes.  But unless and until there's a toolset, we won't have any real explosion of quality works.  (Colour me sad.  :(  )

Two things are known:

1) The mods confirmed that no modding toolkit will be available for Inquisition at release.  They also hinted that it might not ever be available for this game.

2) The Frosbite 3 engine has got a solid reputation as being extremely difficult to mod.

For DA2 there was no toolkit either, but that didn't stop the mods (it did slow them down), since they were using an older engine that was more mod friendly.  I think it was the Eclipse engine.

Unfortunately when it comes to Inquisition, someone wanting to mod the game not too long after release would have to do so with no toolkit and with a notoriously hard mod unfriendly game engine.  While I don't doubt the tenancy of the player base, it'll probably take awhile before that's likely.

Okay guys, necromancy is a new mage spec, not something we should be doing to threads.  This is the third I've seen today...

This is actually really disappointing for me to hear about, as the existence of mods was the second-biggest reason for my considered jump from console to PC, even if one of the reasons I've always been a console girl is because a controller is much easier for me to work with. The biggest, of course, being that I need a new computer definitely, but can't really justify the price of a PS4 and I WANT THOSE GRAPHICS.

Damn, this sucks majorly. I was hoping to get in on the mod game myself eventually.

I agree that the FB3 engine is going to be a pain for the Modding community but I think the fact that resource management will be vital in regards to a toolkit being released because the sad truth is that the Modding Community may extend the life cycle of a game but the thing you have to remember is the Modding Community are the Minority and Console  gamers make up a larger base.

So as a few people have said it is a matter of relegating the resources to make a toolkit that a smaller group of fans will use to extend DAI life cycle and in doing so you risk turning your console fanbase against you by not using those resources to balance and fix the console version of DAI.

So pretty much Bioware is damned if they do and damned if they don't either way somebodys gonna be mad at them the thing they have to decide is who.
