Been thinking about posting this all day, may sound pretty pathetic but it's something i'm happy to write.

My dad died in 05, he took care of me and my mom, moms disabled with some pretty nasty diseases. He was the only one working as an engineer and he kept our home afloat. After he died, bam home went into foreclosure, been delaying it ever since. Well one night back in 2010 my mom got sick...as in say your last goodbyes sick. While she was sick she kinda lost her mind to the medications and basically became extremely hostile....at everyone. She was in the hospital for 4 months and had to go through surgery. I visited her every day and came home at night.

In that time I was home alone pretty damn upset. So one night I went to wallmart to take my mind off things and saw ME2...bought it, played it, got hooked to hell and back. I see games like books, and while I was under extreme stress, it gave me something to do at night, and kept me going. When you're about to lose the last of what you have, something to cheer you up and maybe teach you new ways of approaching things can help you immensely.

Things got better for a time, but it's getting more and more stressful each day. I'm 22 and im living the life of 2 people with a full time job at work and at home. Playing the Citadel tonight reminded me why I love the series so much and improved my morale again, because of this, I wanted to say thank you to the producers at bioware for all their hard work and ingenuity, I hope to one day pass the series down to my kids so they can have as much fun as I have these many months.

.....Also singing scientist salarian at work in the hospital lab almost cost me my job.....was worth it.

Not pathetic at all.

It's awesome you were able to find some joy in ME to carry you through some extremely tough stuff.

There's nothing pathetic about that at all man. You aren't alone with how the Mass Effect trilogy has influenced you and there's no shame in that. Not under the same circumstances maybe, but it's escapism for all of us and the universe and characters mean something sincere to everyone here.

Keep your head up and I hope things turn around for you soon! That being said I'd like to join you, THANK YOU BIOWARE! I'm still bitter over the endings and that probably won't ever leave my system, but the Citadel DLC brought me a barrel of laughs and joy even a bit of emotion, and for that thank you.

Definitely not pathetic. Life is a struggle, some people learn it early some people learn it late. But mostly everyone learns it at some point in their lives.

I do have a question however, were you affected significantly by the ending? I have a friend who was in a relatively similiar situation in that her entrance into the MEU was to escape and learn new ways to deal with her problems. The ending really messed her up, although I think she's moved on now..

This is an incredibly awesome story.

First off, it's not pathetic in the least. Good on you for being such a good family member; that shows a tonne about you as a person.

Secondly, it's stories like this that warm the hearts of the developers. They love to hear that their hard work has helped relieve someone of the harshness of real life, even if for a brief time. It is these kinds of stories that will continue to make gaming such an amazing past-time and will ensure the games will always improve.

It is a great pleasure to have read the story you've shared, and I hope that you won't need that distraction, but, if you do, there is always an amazing game out there for you.

Alot of us in the healthcare field have given up themselves to benefit other people in one way or another by working overtime, ignoring lunch, playing with peoples urine and blood... going the extra mile etc.... So while I didn't like the Destroy or Synthesis endings, the Control ending where shepard sacrifices who he is/was to benefit everyone kinda hit home.

Also I was kinda hoping Bioware would just troll everyone in one massive sweep so they could be known as the greatest trolls of all history by making this the ending [Link deleted due to bare arse, youtube going to the store] , except instead of mannequin guy walking down the street, it would be a Geth Prime/Juggernaught doing the same thing except on the citadel.

I think all of us have used ME as an escape at one point or another. And what a joyful escape it is.

Best wishes OP.

Hold the line.

Don't feel bad about finding something like this to take your mind off of things for a while, there are worse things to do it with than a video game.

I wish you the best of luck, the warmest of wishes, and hope for the best for you.

The guys at Bioware need to see this, to see that there are people that truly appreciate the work they do. And no...this isn't pathetic, my friend. We all have our trials, and you aren't the only one who used Mass Effect to help them through tough times.

Wish you all the best.

Ha. You're dealing with life's troubles responsibly and at a young age. You're already a better man than some of your peers and you wonder if a little escapism now and then is pathetic ? I think it's a roadmap to good mental health and I'm happy ME offers you a little reprieve. Rock on OP.

I remember being there for my Mum through terminal cancer at her home when my son was 3 - 4 years old. I understand completely what you are going through and send my best thoughts and prayers your way. May your God or Gods be with you and ease your family's burdens. I am glad you found the game to lift that burden when it did. :)

Thank you guys again for your support, it's nice knowing that commander shepard has been an escape for many of us in a world where it's not as easy as one would hope.

Excellent. I'm happy this gave you a small measure of escape and joy through such unfortunate and difficult times.

As another fan, I agree on how much I've come to love this franchise over the last few years.

Pathetic? No. True and real? Yes. Don't be ashamed of that.

EDIT: Relieved to see a mod sighting without the "Lockdown" phrase being used...

I'm sure they are glad to hear a lot of people cares about their work, even if they drown in entitled crybabies most days.

I wouldn't have so much patience lol...

Not pathetic at all. Mass effect is truly special and the Citadel DLC with the exception of saving the citadel in ME1 and suicide mission of ME2 is probably the best content in the series. Amazing. I'm glad you luv mass effect.
