I really love playing this game (I figure i'm about half way through it and can't wait to continue).  I'm new to RPGs unless you count the Fable games.  I'm looking for some suggestions on other Xbox 360 games of similiar style, depth and gameplay to try after I finish Dragon Age.  I don't care for the futuristic story of Mass Effect.... more interested in the ancient eras. Any suggestions?

If you haven't played then Diablo 2.

Don't say anything, just play it if you haven't and comeback later.

P.S.: Also The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, with all its expansions and the textures from TESNexus.

Morrowind > Oblivion

Oblivion is a good game, but it is pretty much nothing at all like DA.

Edit :  Did D2 come out for xbox?  Pretty sure it didn't.....

If you're looking for a more recent game. Try Divinity II, Ego Draconis.

It's not as good as Dragon Age but it is good and will help hold you over until Dragon Age Awakening.

Mreh...I think he would like Oblivion more if he is looking or a good story and depth.  Divinity 2 is pretty hack'n'slash IMHO.

this.
Also, Oblivion is decent only on PC, due to the mods. Playing it without any mods just exposes you to a very, very dull game with an unsightly story and shallow characters.

I enjoyed Oblivion on 360, but be warned that its story and character development is nothing close to that of DAO. If you buy it make sure to pick up the Shimmering Isle's expansion pack.

Oblivion just seems to lack a soul to me. The game is so open ended that playing it is just like going outside in real life except you have a fantasy atmosphere.

I can see why that would appeal to some people but to me a game has got to have heart.

Dragon Age has plenty of it.

As far as storytelling, characters, immersion feeling go, the closest games that come to my mind are Gothic I and II, vanilla Neverwinter Nights, Icewind Dale, Drakensang.

Gahh heathens, why has nobody mentioned Kotor1/2?!

Both great games and im sure you can get a great bargain for both of them, probably looking at under £10. Both on the xbox (haven't got a 360 so i dont know if they run on that, but i can't see why they wouldn't).

Definitly worth the price, and if you haven't heard anything about the story for Kotor 1 in particular, you're in for a treat :)

well, a throwback game from the x-box (also by biware) is Jade Empire. I had a great time replaying it recently while I waited on DLC for Dragon Age.

It plays on the 360 well enough, and the story is interesting.

I suggest Drakensang, not as good of a story as Dragon Age, but you can't expect to to be as bioware is the king of stories. It is also really damn complex, as it has a system as complex as D&D but totally different. Still it was money well spent and a great diversion until awakening.

Let me also HIGHLY suggest Heroes of Newerth, it's a Dota spin-off and pretty much nothing like Dragon Age gameplay wise, but it has spells, elves, dwarves, humans, and the bad guys are very very much like the blight.

The Witcher (2007)

Best rpg, besides Dragon Age, I played besides the old baldurs gate series.

You play only as one character, but can build him in different ways. It has a dark setting and takes place in a world inspired by medieval Poland. The game features lots of "sword porn" that looks very cool as it was obtained by filming/consulting a real sword master, the combat itself is also very active as auto attacking does not exist. The game has a very nice, although pretty linear, story and the best soundtrack I have ever heard in ANY game.

Sadly though it is only available for pc and the ps3/xbox360 version looks like its cancelled.

Whatever you do, don't buy fallout 3. I've started playing it, whilst waiting for the awakening, but it's just ****ing depressing. I'm always out of ammo and I'm running around in a post-apocalyptic heap of ****. Real entertaining.

Oh yes, definitely Drakensang. It's a partially unknown gem, really underrated. But alas, it's only on PC.

From my point of view there is no depth game like DA:O out there. Especially for XBox there won't be that many games like DA:O but i am not sure about that. For PC Games i would say cool (but not like DA:O neither the ruleset nor the character love and story) gather some infos about Morrowind / Oblivion (Elder Scrolls Saga Part 3 and 4) and Neverwinter Nights I+II. If u like oldschool hardcore Iso 2d graphics try out Baldurs Gate ;).

My personal favorite of those would be NWN 2 cause of it's extreme amusing story / characters, i had so many laughs with that monk dwarf and the little demon rogue. Someone could say this is the predecessor of DA:O so expect a real good but not stunning game after you played through DA:O.

Because the Op says he didn't want a sci-fi game?

Of course a real uptight Star Wars pedant would argue that Star Wars is fantasy, not sci-fi.

I'd say give KOTOR even if you don't like Star Wars.

I don't know who wrote the storyline(Drew Karpyshyn?) but he's far more talented than George Lucas.

Thanks for all the suggestions... sounds like the Xbox 360 doesn't have another game similiar to DA:O. Some interesting suggestions of PC games though.... Thanks all

I recommend Drakensang, although it might be sold under a different name where you live.

It's a real classic RPG, but not quite as big budget as DAO, hence less dramatic story telling and voice-acting. Still, it has a lot in common with DAO, being a party based RPG and all, and you should try it.

Here, I just found it in Amazon: http://www.amazon.co...63403823&sr=8-1

Part 2 is being released quite soon as well. So you might want to check that out too if you like it.

I find it absolutely hilarious that only like THREE suggestions in this thread so far meet the clearly worded specifications of the OP. Dragon Age community members, you are my heroes.

Like Borschbeet said, depends on your view on whether it's sci-fi or fantasy since it inherits alot from both worlds.

A definitive fantasy as someone has already posted is Jade Empire, a great game and similar to Kotor in that you can probably pick it up real cheap now.
