Seriously I have seen more violence and bloodshed in a 12 movie!!!  What's with the 18 classification talk about going a bit too far - a think probably a 12 would have done it!   At least the original UK 'Witcher', before all the patches was an 18!  Oh and on another topic entirely those little cute baby dragons, couldn't you have made it optional to kill them - I felt mean ! :)

Ask the ones giving the rating,

Bestiality may have something to do with it though.

It's not the violence, which is probably cartoonish enough to rate a PG-13, at leat in Origins, it's the sex. You can't have simulated sex scenes, even with only partial nudity, and rate the game for kids.

And I completely agree about the baby dragons. I hated doing that, especially when they tell us that dragons almost died out. We're not only killing baby animals, we're killing endangered baby animals!

I am quite liberal about letting my kids play games, but I would not let a 12 year old play Dragon Age. It's not about the violence, and not primarily about the sex either, even if I think it is too much for a twelve year old. The reason why I think the game should have an age limit is for all the mature conflicts in the game. I'm not going to let my kid listen to Hespith until he is old enough to cope, or deal with the more complex issues in the game. That said I can see a mature 15 year old play it too.

There was bestiality in the game? When and where?

Oh, I don't know, some of the others were pretty surprising too - sadomasochism, bestiality, and more.

It has a lot to do with the controversy around games, I think. If it were a film, it would be a 15. But remember the issues that came up with Mass Effect... sigh.

One thing that does get me a bit... for an 18 game, I would have expected some boob.

Well, the game is American made, so the violence would not be a problem at all. The sex could very well be, but it's not explicit in any way.
I do agree with Xandurpein on that issue. Hespith, Ruck, the Deep Roads, the overall mind-boggling, very grey (no pun intended. Really) issues, those are the reasons for the M rating.
Children need guidance to navigate the grey issues of life. It is unfortunate, but nothing is ever strictly bad and good. There is always a blurred line, and they can't look to a game to see that. It needs informed and loving education.
Children up to a certain age are incapable of seeing abstracts. To them the world is either black or white (pardon the unintentional stereotype). To be thrown in such a grey world would upset them, confuse them, and possibly misguide them.

But strictly speaking, Canada (Edmonton anyway) is in North America! Yes, I know America is reffered to the USA, but nevermind. I wanted to point out this, because if the USA is America, then the countries outside the European unions in Europe aren't European? And btw, What the hell am I talking about?!

American makes the impression of being made anywhere in America, ergo south and north. Give credit where credit is due.

American, Canadian..., pfft. you're all the same to us, rofl.
(please don't take this seriously, if you could see me you knew I was grinning from ear to ear. Just a jab at the marketing at large)

But seriously, most of the games made on the American continent have the same, shall we say, standards? Strangely enough, the population in Europe and Asia outnumber the population on the American continent. At least as far as video games are concerned, they seem to be stuck on the US.

*Waiting for the repercussions, after all, what are hot potatoes for?*

Oh, I think the game deserves the M rating. It's not the violence, it's not the underwear sex (reason 1 to play this game on the pc, gogo mods) -- it's the choices presented. Life is very cheap in a way that even an FPS can't quite capture. The whole morality of the culture is different as well -- it's harsher, more dog-eat-dog, and the good path is not necessarily the moral path.

The German humbly apologizes to the Swede, and tries to make up.

However, we are freezing right here. Next time around, keep you rassafrassin snowstorms, will you?

(Gosh, don't you love stereotyping?)

Agreed. Not only did she show a lot, she also fondles her boobs. That was fine, but the PC and her/his chose love interest had to make love in funky underwear? Strange, that.

But then again, the desire demons had tassles. No nipples, because we all know that female nipples are teh evullzzz.

Anf if you were a mage in Redcliff and went into the Fade to save Connor, You could either make a Deal or actually Intimidate her to show you what "Desire" is.
