Mass Effect, I felt the characters didn't emote very well (or enough depending on how you want to look at it) and the odd pacing and driving area's, kinda felt like I was doing the same level over and over again, very monotonous.

That's interesting. Since that's much like I felt playing Dragon Age: Origins. "Oh look, another cave looking similar to the last one - and another bunch of darkspawn - time for more hack and slash."

I found Mass Effect to be fast-paced, intense, and genuinely rewarding - both combat and story-wise.

But hey, it is good that we have diversity. It would be boring if everyone liked the same stuff.

That's true, at least they aren't doing a Command And Conquer or Call Of Duty and banging same crap out over and over again.

Mass Effect, honestly. It was a good game but a bit dumbed down. Shepard's acting and what he said just seemed a bit "forced"

To be fair they are supposedly changing the formula for Command And Conquer 4.
Which... made people rage.

That right there is your mistake.
Should've played female instead.

You're both right, it's simply bad design.

I guess for me it would be Jade Empire, I only played it for a hour or so. The limited customization threw me. The combat felt really fun though, at least in the beginning.

Neverwinter Nights comes close second, never played much of it either. Can't stand the DND system really. I was able to deal with it in KOTOR I & II and NWN2 because I enjoyed the story, though.

I just hope in Mass Effect 2 they ditched the stupid barren worlds with the horrible, horrible car. Every sidequest being done in the same building with palette swaps wasn't great either.

hmm I have so say unfortunately Jade Empire. HOWEVER, I recently got into it and the story and world really interests me..but the killer is the combat system. I know a lot of people will say that the combat doesn't matter in rpg's...but it does for me. I love rpg combat, and jade empire was really really easy. If they release a Jade Empire 2, and once of the things they improve is the combat, then I'm first in line to get it.

I also disliked Neverwinter Nights, though that's due more to my expectations, coming from Baldur's Gate II

I've played though the whole game once already and have progressed very far with my second character. In those 120 hours between those two, the only time I can think of them copy and pasting areas was Denerim with the back alleys. There is a noticeable absence of caves in the game(besides Orzammar, but that's a given), which weren't really copy and paste anyways.

and another bunch of darkspawn - time for more hack and slash."

There's actually quite a variety of enemies and many places in the game with absolutely no darkspawn whatsoever. Though yes, there are quite a bit of darkspawn, just like there are quite a bit of geth in ME.

The point is it's just unending combat, with very little else for variety.

Ignoring the dialog and rp, story, codex, etc, there is very little besides 'unending combat' in all of BioWare's games that I have played.

No, the much maligned (in this thread) JE had tons more content in between the combat, combat never lasted for such long stretches or made up such a large proportion of the game.

I was amazed by the depth of JE... no matter how much I spoke to a character they always seemed to have more to say. And I love that if you speak to the little girl enough you can also speak to both demons possessing her and eventually choose which one to slay

I thought it was fantastic.

Edit: Oh, and I also loved the combat. Only problem was that the magic was a bit weak, and battles became a little easy after paralyzing martial styles were obtained. Still, though, I loved it. Completing Harmonic combos was so fun and something I only discovered in my second playthrough (my first was when I was about 13, whereas my latest was about 3 months ago).

Jade Empire was great. Fun combat, great characters and story.

Mass Effect dumbed down? I dont agree.. its an action RPG, and it scored big time. Great game, tons of replayability.

Honestly, though a good game, my least favorite is NWN.

The NWN OC is probably my least favourite. It pretty much single-handedly put me off computer games for years, coming as it did right after the BGs. Replaying it later, I decided I quite enjoyed the plot detail of Fenthick's lynching, but I still liked little else. The OC mostly interests me as a kind of extended prologue to NWN2.

After that, KotOR. I'm not very keen on the Star Wars license. Like NWN, the plot and characters were mostly dull. I also found the combat pretty tedious, which I can't say for NWN. The only reason I don't rate KotOR worse than the NWN OC is that a) I didn't play it after BG2 and B) I got it for £5 from Steam.

I'd answer the question, but the fact of the matter is, that if I did, I'd probably get lynched. Suffice it to say that I despise 2E D&D.

Those that were made before BG.

I'll take Jade Empire over Dragon Age any day. NWN rocks too!

I was going to say Icewind Dale but it's not a Bioware game Image IPB

So I will say Shattered Steel since I've never played it :P

I will say Mass Effect as I didn't play it. I am more medieval type guy and flirting with KotOR was more than enough to convert me to Sci-Fi for a period.

All other games I've played so far is addictive and I am sure ME, too. So I am staying away from it... for now. ;)

I've only played three but it would most definitely have to be Mass Effect. It isn't really an issue of it being dumbed down like it is for others in this thread. It's mostly an issue of it being so unpolished. Hopefully, this won't be an issue with Mass Effect 2.

Hm, I think that game seemed incredibly polished compared to DA. I mean, I know they were both rushed, but ME seems slightly less bug-ridden, and just... shinier, somehow :)

Mass Effect was my favourite game while I was playing it (then Dragon Age was my favourite while I was playing that) but once I've stepped back and the dust has settled I can see clearly once more that of course the brilliant KOTOR rules over all ;)
