Especially if you play as a female character.  If Morrigan's long term plan which she explained was the reason she was sent by her mother was to get knocked up by a Grey Warden...you'd think she would try to be a little friendlier with potentially the only male Grey Warden in the group.

During the ritual scene, Morrigan explains that Alistair probably wouldn't sleep with her unless you do some persuasion.  Well genius, that wouldn't have been an issue had you not been such a **** to him.

It just seems to me that if this were Morrigan's plan, she would probably try warming up to Alistair so she could seduce him.

She could have tried, yes. But that's a two way street and Alistair wasn't going to warm up to her anyway.

Alistair is a templar and Morrigan is an apostate, lore says that templars and apostates are not friends, you dig?

Could be she recognized Alister as being potentially too clingy and that he would seek to pursue her after she vanished at the end. Or maybe her overwhelming dislike of him was just that, overwhelming. ^^;

But I thought the whole apostate issue was settled when Flemeth made her point about how Alistair would be dead had he not recieved the help from "illegal mages".

I don't know about that, Alistair is young, insecure, and a virgin. Morrigan is seductive, beautiful and cunning. Depending on how things go and if there was alcohol involved I could see Alistair waking up and wondering what the hell happened.

I suspect that the reason she doesn't bother with Alistair is that she wants the male PC to sire the child for a reason beyond whatever their relationship is/was. Which is why have Alistair bed her for the ritual, as I figure I'm at least screwing with her plans in at least a tiny, but potentially large way. Plus I was convinced that one night Alistair and Morrigan we're going to have some crazy hate sex, and was really shocked when they didn't.

Good point, I've wondered about this myself.  I think part of the reason why she's very frosty to him is because of his background as a Templar and her general disdain for anything "Chantry".  The other reason is he does egg her on sometimes, and maybe under all that misanthropy there's a person with feelings or some such.  Though given the way they trade barbs you'd think they were married.

Morrigan had no idea it would come down to sleeping with Alistair at the end, that the confrontation would come so soon. All she needed was a Grey Warden who hadn't been a Grey Warden for very long... it could have been anyone, such as one of the many Orlesian Grey Wardens who were supposed to not be very far away. The fact that it comes down to just three Grey Wardens facing the Archdemon in the end was unexpected for everyone -- and the fact that of those three, with a female PC the only one that is suitable for the ritual is a man she despises, is no doubt galling to her personally.

She tends to approach things with a certain cold-blooded logic. I think she would feel that the possibility of not dying would be enough. Also, that may not have been her plan from the beginning. It wasn't her idea to go in the first place. It's possible that it was something she decided to offer over the course of the journey.

My theory is Morrigan is both legitimately a **** but also didn't want to get involved with either Warden.

Imagine a hot chick whose personality you dislike. If they come up to you and say "Hey, let's have some no strings attached sex! You'll never see me again" few guys will turn the offer down, even if they dislike the girl

unless Allistar is a last course idea and the real plan is to get the male hero grey warden to do the nasty with her

I think I am going to have to accept David Gaider's explanation. He wrote the game after all.

I just love the irony of it all though. It's sort of funny you have to admit that.

Thank you David, that makes sense - and it did bother me with my female PCs. But if she was just waiting for the rest of the Grey Wardens to show up, hoping it could be one of them (because she disliked Alistair, and his templar training too), well ...

Alistair was her last resort, no other options left, she must've hated it as much as he did.

But there still should've been all the ritual paraphernalia - it just doesn't work well as it stands. I want dribbly candles, and mystic runes, and so on. Otherwise it just looks like sex - and not a ritual at all.

Since when do girls have to make sense in this department. She could be teasing him because she likes him. Allistair could get so mad he pins her against a wall and next thing you know...god babies.

The first time I played through I thought for sure those two would hook up by the end it just seemed like some serious mean flirting going on.

After that though going from the "I like to follow" comment Al makes near the begining maybe she thinks it would probably be easier to just get you to order him to sleep with her and so she does not have to be nice to him =P

Ah well, whole Morrigan - Alistair thing is a bit weird. First of course Morrigan: girl out of the swamp who, for some reason, thinks that she's so intelligent and smart. Who the heck would have given her any education in that swamp anyway? Flemeth? She's hardly any scholar herself. From all the legends about her, including her own story, he darted into swamp with a bard at very young age, then in the end summoned a demon and then was promptly taken over by that demon. And I seriously doubt that it happened to be some "scholarly" demon. All of her education would come from some general stuff Flemeth taught her and something little she read out from the few books Flemeth had and from those Grey Warden treaties (which hardly are any educational records). Yes, she would have received a very good training and education when it comes to survival, magic, some combat even but that's that. So the whole image of her as being some sort of "swamp scholar" was already way off the bat.

Alistair on other hand actually has much better education then Morrigan ever would. During all the years he lived at Arl's estate and in castle he would have received education. Obviously not as much as a family member but still some general education. I seriously doubt that Arl Eamon, knowing who's son he really is, would have kept any "bits of knowledge" away from him. So Alistair would have some general education before he was taken into Chantry. And as he pointed out, Chanty doesn't train stupid templars. Sure, a lot of his training received in Chantry would have been the nonsense about Maker and all that, but there would have been also plenty of other academic education. Alistair may present himself as simple person but in reality he'd be quite well educated. If we'd start to line up the chars in party camp based on their education levels, frankly Alistair would be one of the top names. Morrigan with her "swamp education" would definitely not come anywhere close.

So that whole banter thing and Morrigan assuming there that she's so smart was kinda ironically funny. I guess that Alistair didn't want to bother himself by stooping down to her level and try to prove how smart he is and how foolish others may be. Maybe Morrigan at some level even realized this and that was one of the reasons why she couldn't stand Alistair much, as well. I guess that in the end, if she can't sleep with the player char to get that baby, she realized what a tool she's been all this time and now she's pleading for a Grey Warden she doesn't like to sleep with her for her little ritual. Hah, the thoughts what ran through her head would have been probably priceless to hear at that moment. All that blathering all the time how high and mighty she is and how low Alistair is and now she's the one knocking on his door, so to say.

You do realize that if it turns out that Morrigan is Alistair's sister, this becomes even richer in the irony department.  Maric and Flemeth, alone in the hut, for hours, hmmm...Posted Image
