My bets are on cost both time and money involved in not giving Shianni a more damaged look. But if you think about it, it might also be beause Shianni herself wasn't "beaten" up but said so to cover up her rape. Three men with weapons can make it very clear that any resistance would mean death or physical damage far greater then if she doesn't resist, and I personally do not see Shianni as one to prefer death over what she knew must be coming.

As for why she would say she was beaten up when she wasn't, is the idea that she just want to to forget and for people not to think that she was raped so hard to take in?

No. You don't understand what I said. Why would people believe her claim that she was 'just' roughed up - if she doesn't look roughed up?

You pull that guy off the rack in Howe's basement and he's the picture of health.  Some stuff you just have to use your imagination.

This bothers me too, as do all similar occurrences. All for the same reason - it breaks immersion.

Especially after his father talks about what the torturers did to his legs. What, the guy who ran out of the room?

They wouldn't but would ignore the lie and understand her desire not to pursue the matter. You'd be surprised how fast or how willing people are, to accept at face value when someone say "Nothing happened, lets not talk about it, I was just roughed up okies?" when a rape victims tells you so. You know its not true, she knows it isn't but if she doesn't want to talk about it or want you to act like it didn't happen, most will respect that wish. Or at least that has been my experience.

I just wanna say that for the emotionally charged issue we're talking about and how the issue of gender comes into it, I think we all should congratulate each other and our selves on the respectful tone maintained. And if that statement could be qualified with "mostly", I still think we have done good.

Two things I wanna add:

I had a bit of a Humpty Dumpty revelation upon re-reading some of the posts. I used the term 'messed up' in my original post, and it means what I was thinking when I posted.

Huh? What does THAT mean?

Well my revelation was that alot of people (in general and maybe here) understand that term to mean seriously hurt. So I take responsibility for some of the direction of the following posts. But, (and I DO think it matters here), being gay, I just meant it as, you know, messed up. Untidy.

(very small lol)

The second thought I had was that in some respects, DA:O is to blame for my responses in the game that led to the OP. (yeah! I'm looking at you, DA!) If the game wasn't so damn good to look at, and the character modeling so good, I would have expected less. I think that as games get better, issues like this will become more prevalent.

When I first played the City Elf origin, I was unsure what was going on when I first entered the room with Vaughan an co.
I saw Shianni on the floor, but as the OP said, she was fully clothed.
Then she said, "Just take me home."

Kudos to the voice actress. Just from the way that was said, all ambiguity was removed from the scene. I knew they had raped her.

Yeah I had kinda hoped that I'd gotten to her in time but as soon as she spoke, I knew I hadn't.  And so the only reply I could give her was, 'Like dogs, Shianni.'

*shudder* Never playing that origin again...

It is like with waterboarding, it happens but nobody wants to see it. Beheading? That's Itchy and Scratchy stuff.

My thoughts exactly.

Yeah, she might not look beaten up, but she says she was roughed up. Maybe that (to her, in the minds of people listening) means she was threatened, pushed around a bit, thrown down, etc. Nothing to leave too noticable of makes but something they can tell themselves happened rather than really facing what happened.

The first time I saw it, I thought I'd gotten there in time to save her from the worst of it, then I listened to her... To me, when I heard the line "So much blood... I can't stand to look at it..." I didn't think about the blood of slaughtering Vaughn. I took it as an entirely different kind of bleeding.

Needless to say, I told her I'd killed them all and killed them like dogs.

I just talked to Shiani after I killed Vaughn. Her voice delivery really is excellent.

But is it just me or does she start to smile at a very wrong moment? Like someone messed up the facial expression in the dialogue/stage....
