Even with a reegar or acoltye, the cerberus vanguard is hands down, the worst vanguard.

aren't dragoons covered in armor? Why don't we lobby for armor instead of shields. They don't heal like shields, but they could provide innate armor resistance equal to our foes armor depending on gold or plat.. It activates automatically and completely regenerates every 60 seconds, but can be shot off, exposing the player to just regular shields and health, and it comes back after that sixty second timer runs down.

The thing is Batguard with Reegar is an exception since its a combo of death and destruction though its a bit cheesy. Smashguard Acolyte outclassed by many characters with Acolyte.

I call out Bataian as worst.  Bowlus is awesome, and only got moreso with the BatGlove gear:  it go so far as to say the BatGlove made the batarians invalid as a race now.

As for the ex-Cerb, I still like him as a melee-smash build.  Maybe less effective than others, but still fun.  And "fun" is a worthy attribute in a kit IMO.

I think the biggest problem with this kit isn't the strength of his skills, but the fact that he has the SAME EXACT SKILLS as the cerbdept, but with charge instead of singularity. I mean sure he comes with his own flavor of vanguarding but at the end of the day you could have done the same thing as the adept but with a less buggy skill. I wish they gave this guy some sort of combat skill instead of lash.

2x range on smash and some shields and he would be awesome, not just funny
I made my 200 waves with him and really had a ton of fun. On the other hand, I don't think Ill pick him up any time soon, other kits are even more fun
+ can understand ppl's dislike for this char, he's not easy to master + pretty squishy....

its not really an issue of "mastering the character".

this character received a recharge speed buff to give it more synergy back in the day, then it was nerfed because of wall spammers.

just seems like they couldnt figure out what to do or forgot about the Phoenix characters all together.

at any rate, the character needs a little help, i figure a little more durability would do the trick.

I agree, I like Smash as a power, but it has terrible synergy on the Phoenixguard. By far the worst vanguard.

Not that he's a bad class (he isn't), but the Phoenix Vanguard's damage output is just too mediocre to excuse his poor durability.

Volus Protector at least has a weird niche as a high-recharge speed, shield boosting, team supporting shotgun platform. BatGuard has those quirky CC builds, and can be run as an off-Kroguard with a better weapon passive.

He's not brokenly bad like the Talon. Though he is the worst Vanguard, he passes all the benchmarks needed to make him more than useable on any difficulty. Smash is strong enough, Lash is skip, Charge is, well, charge, and his melee is a quick AoE attack, unlike the others.

I still like him and enjoy playing as him, whenever the urge comes up.

Well, let's see... List of vanguards which are better at CQC than the Smashguard, in no particular order:

novaguard
Slayer
asari
Drell
kroguard
broguard
Cabal

And that leaves... The Volus as worse in CQC than the Smashguard (and even that's not really set in stone).

What the crap? Do you people know how to cancel the Smash animation? It's still one of the best damn attacks in the game.

Pair that up with Bonus Power for BC and you've got one hell of a harasser. All Vanguards have their strengths and weaknesses and the whole squad is balanced across the board. And you're not doing the Volus right if you're not charging every 1.6 seconds.

Trust me... I know how to play Vanguards 

And the Volus is the only one with less CQC killing capabilities. But the Volus is much more resilient, so I wouldn't say it's worse.

This class can easily beat other vanguards in CQC.
The Charge chance evo really made smash shine on this class.

The Phoenix Vanguard isn't the most powerful kit, but he's still very good. I only need Biotic Charge, passives and a Talon to tear **** up with this guy. His mobility is a huge plus over Kroguard and Batguard.
Granted you can basically do the same with a Slayer or vanilla Human, but that doesn't make it any less effective.

Also he is way better than the Volus imo.

Disagree completely, I love him, I just spec Smash and Charge with full Health Fitness and Power Damage bonuses, and destroy everything. I even outstrip fellow Shadows.

He needs a teammate with reave to really shine. If you can get that then it is BE's everywhere, meaning a lot of damage in a short period of time.

Even without grenades, the Drellguard is a highly mobile kit with insane weapon damage and great carrying capacity. It's not grenade gear that makes him good, it's guns like the Claymore and Raider. Cluster Grenades, as awesome as they are, are just gravy.

It's not that the Phoenix Vanguard is bad, he's just outclassed by the others. Yes, even the Volus and Broguard. He's a solid kit who's just slightly too squishy, who relies on a melee that's slightly too weak. If his durability, or his heavy melee damage were buffed (even slightly), he'd probably be a superstar. As it is, doing well with him is just a little too hard for the payoff you get.

i like this vanguard, all of his 3 powers are good, and makes him an all around kit.mooks, shielded or barriered enemies, bosses, he has powers for all of them. i play him more than the drell or asari vanguard.
