I did the 'Normal" without a problem, but I had good PUG teams. The leap from Bronze
to Silver is huge for me, so going to Platinum for even 4 matches scares my Warlord half
to death. I don't want to be one of those idiots I read about here, or screw up the other players,
so should I gear up and try it, or be happy with my Normal banner and good reputation.
(banjo players worry about their already poor reputation)

you should not play a melee based class due to all the sync killers, i would reccemand that you and a group of friends will play together, preferably one of them be a juggernaut to atrract attention of sync killers, play maps that have alot of cover and easy to funnle enemies, hazarad ractor other side of spawn area for example, if you can beat collectors on platinum, or geth, you shouldent need to fear anything else there, just remember, noone is perfect, do not be dissapointed if you fail a few time, consider it practice.

Edit: was going to offer assistance but you on a diffrent platform, still there are alot of good players here on BSN with consoles, maybe they will agree to help you, if they do, try and learn from them ;)

Maybe you get lucky and end up on a good team. I had some pretty awful people join today but myself and a friend carried them to a win.

Don't PUG it. You'll just ruin other peoples experience. Instead get a couple people that'll help you.

People have soloed platinum, it's possible. But after you go down a bunch of times, you might get left behind.

Yeah, it's definitely possible. You'll just have to find some good people to, if worst comes to worst, carry you. Also, doing 4 rounds with them might jump your game up a level as a nice side-effect!

Totally unrelated question: do you have Armored Compartments 5?

Edit: Btw, if you're on PC feel free to add me.  My friends and I are probably done for the day, but if you're on in the next few we'd be glad to give it a shot with you.

Great Avatar!!!!

OP:  Yes.  You can do it.  Grab some guys from here and give it a shot.  It's not as hard as people make it out to be.  Try pugging a Plat game and see how it goes.  Don't worry if you don't do very good.  Just get the experience, then go try it with some friends.  What's the worst that can happen?  You fail?  Then try again...

Also, there are a few threads on bsn with xbox people offering to help.  I think Megabeast has a thread.  That would be a good start...:D

Yes have a crack , nothing to lose. If you have Cyclonic equip it. Otherwise use your best amps etc so people can see that you are having a decent attempt. Had a couple of players that scored low in my Plat pugs but they were there helping with objectives and reviving and missiling so were an asset and fine to play with.

easiest way is do it with friends, but if you try pug randoms, best odds, is to have a Juggernaut on your team, to tank the sync killers away from rest of the team, and either work as a team to take down the units gathering around the Jug, or even better hopefully you get a guy who is godly like me.

few more tips

Try to limit the amount of Harrier users, since Platinum you only get half the ammo, a bunch of users just defeats yourself.

A Inflitrator with max cloak helps with objectives and reviving,

But take your time, you still got a while before Lodstar ends, so be patienced practice a bit first if need be.

Ashen Earth also has a thread either of those 2 are more than capable of helping you out.

I know how you feel, OP. I usually play gold and silver with my friends and I have only ever tried Plat once, aeons ago when it first came out. I want to give it another go and my friend and I have plans to have a go at it tonight... but I am pretty nervous! The worst is the feeling that you'll let your team-mate(s) down; that's the part I dislike the most. I have no idea how well we'll go, but let's just say my friend is leagues ahead of me in skill (and patience!) and I am by no means an awesome player... decidedly average I would think! So yeah, I am nervous - and hoping I don't suck more than my usual galactic black hole suckiness, for my friend's sake! (I must have an inner Banjo player, lol!)

I do have the armored compartments, that must be a suggestion, eh. Since posting I read all the posts about 'platinum' and learned much. I will 'friend' you who volunteered, but I read that using some Infiltrator type rather than my hammer dude would be best. So I'll spend the night raising one to a high level.
Side note: Had a player today called Insane Banjo. We had a dueling banjo blast!

basically, choose a class that will complement others - tech combos are probably the easiest and hopefully you have a geth juggernaut to aggro for the combos.
and therefore stay with the team to combine your strengths.
use your consumables wisely. thermal clips, gels and ops & rocket when the team is getting overwhelmed.

as long as you're doing your part properly, even if you wipe, no one should mind.

I'm with you. Bronze and Silver are ok to jump in willy nilly, but above that people are gearing up, and good intentions aren't enough. I tried a Plat Solo once, and still quake at the thought. Best of luck to you. (and me)
