SimCity launch worse then Diablo III?

Anyone aware what's going on with this game yet? It's getting pasted, and it doesn't work maybe moreso then Diablo III, apparently. Currently holding a prestigious 2.2 user score on metacritic, this always on DRM and forced online game is Electronic Arts latest offering.

How's the game sofar?

Reports also have surfaced of EA blocking access to servers randomly even though you get booted out once they do let you on and customer support taking upwards of 10 hours to respond. For a singleplayer game. Why people pay for this and support this is beyond me.

You're better off with the old games.

They made a SimCity Multiplayer game. A poor one at that.

What's your stance on DRM?

Not a good one.

Mass Effect 3, Simcity 5, Prey 2, Borderlands 2, and Battlefront 3. The only games I've ever anticipated before.

2 have yet to be released.
2 had horrible releases.
1 passed with flying colors. Guess which is which?

Honestly I only played the SC5 demo. Kinda not too thrilled about it. Gonna watch some reviews/gameplay on youtube before I decide to buy it, but this Origin bull**** definitely is a huge turnoff.

You speak of suffering? What do you know of suffering? I waited for Aliens: Colonial Marines for years. It was to be the game of a lifetime! But Gearbox crushed my dreams.

I also mourn Battlefront 3 tbh.

I viewed some screenshots of this new Sim City last year ... they seemed quite artificial and uninteresting. So this game will be another facepalm.

No, they're actually pretty comparable, both in terms of DRM screwups and in terms of actual quality gameplay.

But, since one is Blizzard and the other is EA, one will be forgiven while the other is decried as the worst thing ever.

I loled so hard when I saw Amazon and Metacritic ratings. Especially Amazon ones. Knowing EA, I expect them to blame pirates and "vocal minorities" for 1 star ratings.

The comment section on their Facebook page under a SimCity promo and Twitter is popcorn worthy. They are indeed saying its a vast minority. Lol. And saying how "confident" they are that Europe and Japan and other markets will be fine.

Yeah...

Making a singleplayer game always online. This is what they get. And if I can tell, it seems many, many casuals are confused about being online and absolutely furious. And Steam has a city sim sale mocking EA and SimCity blatantly and raw on their website.

Point me to this supposed sale and "blatant and raw mocking", if you would, because a quick check of Steam's current specials and sales reveals nothing for Cities XL, Tropico, Anno, older SimCity games, or indeed -anything- in the city simulation genre.

Wow, I'm seriously surprised at how EA is still alive. I mean, damn. They've been shoveling out flops it seems. I still don't know how people still buy EA games. The last one I bought was Origins, which I never regretted. To be fair, my friend allowed me to download Fight Night Champion from his PSN account. Damn, that game is the best in the series, but micro-transactions make it pay to win.

Their neverending series of sports games are impeccable and likely are what's keeping them afloat.

I saw it on a link on Facebook. I never go to Steam, so I can only say what I saw.

Yeah ... there's nothing of the sort on their Facebook page either.

Although NBA2K13 is 50% off today, if that's your thing.

Someone posted a link in a SimCity posts' comment section. I laughed when I saw it. Maybe Steam yanked it. They had 5 or 6 city simulators listed for super cheap.

Europe, watch out!!!!

That was a joke...

Amazon pulling the Digital Download version from their store until EA gets their act together is not a joke however.

I'd have to imagine this whole thing might give EA pause about doing this sort of always online thing again, especially in a game that historically wouldn't need it. Their server woes has already caused reviews for the game to be lowered and having a huge retailer like Amazon take refunds (which they're likely eating the cost on) and pull the game from their online store? That's really bad.

And they apparently just got rid of Cheetah speed in attempting to fix the problems, so they're mucking around with a central gameplay feature too.

At least other people are having fun at EA's expense:

There game franchises sell, that is how they are still alive.  Despite all the complaining and hate on the Internet people buy the games, people have fun.

I got a chuckle out of that. Maybe I'll go much around with SC2000 for a while when I get home.

I dunno. It may be like Error 37 in which some people will claim the error is better than the game. It's already been described as a "Facebook game."

Well I guess EA can be happy since their always online DRM game hasn't been pirated....yet. I do wonder if this is the price companies are willing to pay to stop piracy for a few days. 1.8 user score on meta critic and yanked off amazon.

If you think this is bad however or that Diablo III is bad then you never saw the Burning Crusade launch from Blizzard.

Good thing I didn't pre-order.

I think from now on I'll only buy EA games when they hit the bargain bin.
