Got to love this attitude.

Demand answers but when you get them you refuse to believe them..... and people wonder why some game companies don't communicate.

Its called "Experience", not "attitude". Its the old story of a kid who cried wolf. Except the kid keeps dying and and the surrogat father apparently doesnt do anything to teach his kids what happened to the last one. When companies that start out having quality products and good CS relations get taken over by EA and that CS relation and quality goes into the crapper as a rule, not an exception, then you generally assume that the fact that EA takes over has something to do with the eqasion. If you dont, you shouldnt be working with communication, but instead sit back and enjoy whatever McDisney fairytale is spun to placate you.

There is good communication, and then there is bad.  There is sterling (Obsidian) and then there is completely inept (EA). And the strange part is that Obsidian doesnt have as many PR reps and spin trained monkeys from halfarsed "Media training consultancy courses" as EA. They simply communicate with their fanbase, just like Bio used to do. Bioware now only communicates to its fanbase.

I always knew EA were going to screw up Sim City Posted Image.
It was interesting to see how.

They've possessed one of the strongest franchises for a decade, doing nothing. Then they finally decide to go for the obvious money.  ...But make a game that is something much different from what people loved. bad or good doesn't matter. There is so much different. Small cities, co-op, no modding or player creatioin, no ability save your cities as your own, in the safety of your own computer. In fact you can't even count on being able to play the game indefinitely. Like we still can with our late versions of Sim City. The Sim City franchise is now dead.

I don't blame EA/Maxis for trying for something much new. Not after 10 years. But the way that deal works, is you make something good, and something that still possess the spirit of the old.

I don't think Sim City is that. I don't know for sure and will never find out. I'm okay with that.

I'm strongly in favor of DRM as a concept. I really am. I hate the idea of cloud games. I'll never buy one.

I've said it many, many times. And I've always been right. EA marketing is always wrong. They have always been wrong and they will always be wrong. Have them do the only thing they have competence for, advertising, and put others in charge of marketing plans and game design strategy.

...but it's not going to happen. They'll ruin DA3 and kill DA franchise too. Deep in our hearts we all know it. Posted Image

But the problem is people on the internet have more or less been trained to automatically think that EA and all affiliates are evil or don't listen.  Have EA made some poor decisions with some games, ya who hasn't.  Have they done some decent things?  ya but people don't like to talk about it.  In the end it's this, it's hard to discuss things with the comsumer when the consumer has already villified you and will not accept anything you say unless it justifies that perception of evil villainy.

Who "trained" them?

What decent things? Giving away ME2 to disgruntled DA2 buyers? I'm sorry, but ME2 is just as bad.

The one thing I feel their pain on is 'Mirror's Edge'. A remarkable game that deserved to be a much bigger success.  It's the only thing (that I can think of now) created under EA control that I'm prepared to give them credit for. And that such games do not sell better is something to be bitter about. It undermines our entire argument.

Maybe gamers get the games they deserve? After all.

In any case, this thread is now done as I'm not one to want to filter through an EA mudslinging match that is no longer about the thread topic.

For those that loathe EA, I always find the juxtaposition about merrily posting said disgust on a board hosted by EA to be an interesting piece of irony. And before one feels that my closing this thread is just an example of me wanting to mute any EA criticisms, note that I am locking this thread because it's shifted off topic, and I am not outright deleting/hiding the thread so no one can see.
