Dragon age does have issues with multicore CPUs.. I used to get hugh loading time but then I did a clean reinstall and now the loading times seems to be fine ( as for now) . But CPU% is always 100% on both cores and suddenly there is a hugh lag with everything slowing down.

This started happening just after installing 1.02. I've played much heavier games like COD, Crysis,Fallout 3 and they were just fine.. It is sure a game issue.

System Specs:

CPU: AMD Ahtlon 4000+ @2.1Ghz

Graphics: 8600GT

Memory: 2GB 800MHz

HDD: 2x160GB SATA @7200RPM

Where is Andreas ? He hasn't posted since page 3, and we have certainly given him enough of the information he asked for. Did he drop off the face of the earth, or maybe decide being a mod wasn't much fun after all?

If this were the old Bio Boards, we would have had someone talking to us about the problem, and at least reassuring us that something was being done, but here... nothing. This game is frustrating for some, and impossible for others to play, so come on Andreas, or someone, please respond.

I have nForce 680i mobo, Dual Core, forgot brand. 2 GeForce 8800NT graphic cards and 4G of RAM. I am patched to 1.02a. The game loads fine until I arrive Denerium, then problems start to occur. Mostly it is CTD when I try to load a game, it also happened that a couple saves at Denerium Market District cannot be loaded at all. The loading screen displays normally with music playing and icon rotating as normal, however, the loading just never gets completed.

I waited and waited, for over 15 minutes. It just doesn't load.

This is how I solved it. I loaded an early save, and traveled to Denerium, which loaded normally. I make a save at the entrance, then I load up the save that I couldn't load earlier, and it went fine.

I hope this provide some useful indicators.

Good for you but it isn't related to the loading times problem. You "only" describe a bug where an area isn't completely loaded and CTDs.

My problem wasnt necessarily long loading times, but suddenly the game took my processor usage to 100% and it completely froze.

After a few minutes i could move for a second and it would have to start "loading" again, this suddenly happened after roughly 1½-2hours of play..

using e6600 2.4ghz, 2gb 800mhz ram

Does it mean that there is more than one memory leak?

So you are saying that Sound is causing a huge problem  ( memory leak )

The FMOD Ex Programmer's API and Designer are a world-leading library and toolkit for the creation and playback of interactive audio. FMOD products are widely used in the games industry and have gained a strong reputation for its ease of use, powerful software-mixed architecture and comprehensive cross-platform support.

FMOD supports more hardware platforms than any other audio system - including the latest 'next gen' consoles. Consider the cost savings of not having to change code across any platform - Save months of development time. FMOD is actively developed, with regular releases of new features. Many new requested features have been provided to customers in a very short turnaround - if you want a new feature, just ask!

Many customers are amazed at the personal level of technical support they get, either by phone, email or even personal visit (if applicable).

and also that particular dll is also causing major issues within the game..... ( memory leak )

d3d9.dll is a process belonging to the DirectX program . d3d9.dll is DirectX DLL for DirectX9. It adds DirectX functionality for Windows Multimedia tasks and games.

d3d9 dates from 2004 apprently and does not to have been updated at all since then....if this dll is the culprit then there is not much we can do....

I would not find it hard to believe that...

Microsoft seems to have a newer version of direct x 9
maybe some people can try this to see if it would help the game, but it is at their own risk....

That sounds all well and good, but if no one is reading these threads what good will it do?

Could we maybe get an update on what steps are being taken to quell this fell beast of a bug?

I'd really like for it to be fixed by the time Awakening rolls in.

Well.. speaking for myself I can say it feels like no one reads this because there is no response from anyone giving us updates or progress status of the fix for this bug.  Just a little communication would be nice.  And this just isn't some small bug.  It's obviously a flaw.  If your rig surpasses the recommended settings yet you get the load times like some of us do it's down right frustrating at times.  I pretty much went and updated my PC just so I could play Dragon Age without a hitch.. I can play everything BUT Dragon Age without a hitch now though.

It would just be nice to get some status updates on this is all.

Well, I'm glad to see (or sorry to see) that I'm not the only one having this issue.

As much as I love playing this game, I'm about ready to shelve it due to the excessive loading times. Sometimes I can load into an area within a few seconds, other times it's up to 5 minutes.

Hmmm... I don't want to jump the gun on this..(checks again)..but I downloaded the new directx 9 addition that recently came out and was mentioned by Bruno and I've went hours now with no increase in load times. Again, I am extremely hesitant to say that the problem is fixed for me but I have no other explanation. ??? Could it? >crosses fingers<

Its very possible, alot of people are not aware that just cus they have Vista (DX10) or Win& (DX10.1/11) it doesnt mean DX9 is installed. I had to manually istall DX9 on my Vista Business PC AND my Vista Home Premium 64bit in order to get a couple of things running. Kept receiving the missing d3dx9_30.dll error (I believe thats the file name) still a major PITA.

Im still of a mind that damnable EADM is somehow involved with all these other games that use or when a game is added to it that ran fine prior is now all suffering same load issues, frame drops, etc...

After I read both of your posts, I went in and did a dxdiag to double check which DX I had...and I have DX11 installed!!!! I didn't even know that 11 was out, let alone 10!!

<---lives under a rock

Anyone else running any computers with 11 and have since gone back to 9?

Well, I had a several great hours of quick load times then it fell back into the same pattern. Grr...I was so hoping that this could've been the answer. I had to come back and mention this because I didn't want to give anyone false hopes. ugh.

Hmmm.. I d/l the SDK DirectX9 as linked, and I also found load times much improved, and no lag issues.

However, I also turned off the background music....

Haven't had time to give this a thorough (long) test, but I may go back to one of my old Ostagar saves and see if it's still running fine

I have the same disspiriting problems. The thing is, I don't think I have the latest 1.02a patch either, so it's definitely not related to that, and more likely a lack of payment for performance testers. Started noticing the problem in Denerim, like others have too. It's quite sad, and part of me thinks that EA have shut the lid on this issue out of a fear of putting a tiny bit more money into the game, however minimal. They've likley forbade Bioware from discussing the issue with fans.

like i said d3d9 is real old..and does not look like it would have an update..if it is causing a leak then Bioware as got to look at modifying the game to maybe get rid of using this DLL or modify the coding to use it better.

For Fmod i really do not know it seems to be some programming set that you can put in a game but i do not see any codecs. I am at work so i will need to check.... if the games does have codecs related to fmod system, maybe an update to this part of the game would solve the issue...it looks like DA might not be the only game suffering from this system...

Edit: it is old for direct x9 but for direct x10 this dll has been updated. Whic makes me wonder if the people with vista are having better luck with the game even if the game runs on direct x 9....

I must....thank Bioware and especially Andreas Papathanasis for getting involved in this issue of long loading times(not) and generally unplayability of Dragon Age. Do you begin to understand that people have paid good money to play..what is and has been from day 1 a bugged game due to many errors reported within these forums....It has now been what? 11 pages of ignored information re the long loading times and etc etc. Do you (Bioware) actually read these forums? It seems not since Andreas Papathanasis made his first post.
