If it is an issue with the engine itself they might be waiting for the expansion so they can fix it with that because they can add and alter the engine with the installation of the new Awakening game. Maybe? I hope because it is coming soon however that would still be screwing all those who plan to play the first one and never get the expansion. Just brain storming here.

I hope they realize this will have an impact on the sales of the expansion. I for one will not be buying it if this isn't adressed. Sure, the game is awesome but it's not worth the frustration of having to wait 5 minutes entering a house.

I tried forcing my game to run in directx 9 with the whole -dx9 thing in launch options for steam version (non-steam will have to search for the thread about resolved crash issues), because it seems to have fixed other issues for other people. And it worked on the loading time slow down. So, just putting that out there so other people can try it.

I will not buy the expansion unless this issue is being looked at. Tbh...this thread is provoking. Are they pretending that they didn't knew/know about this problem?

Intel i5-750 (quad core)

8Gb RAM

ATI Radeon 5850 (1GB)

SATA HDD

Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.

Running with -dx9 results in fast times. Was fast to start with on very first game but soon slowed down horribly, now even on new games its painfully slow, I've recorded times of 2+ minutes. Hard disk light barely flashing nothing obvious going on.

Launching in dx9 did nothing to improve load times for me :(

Just got this game recently as well after having gone through ME2 a few times. For the most part, the game plays incredibly smooth on max settings at 1920x1080 on my system although the loading times described here I experienced.
I find that for the first half hour or so, load times usually are 20-30 secs, but as I pass an hour, it easily goes past the minute mark.
The game also crashes to desktop occasionally and has restarted my whole system once. This all happens at loading screen. The HD indicator light blinks normally, which is to say pretty constantly during load.
I havent tried the single core trick yet. It did help for ME2 but I stopped since I just swapped out my cpu for a faster one, problem solved.

Specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo E7500
ASRock 4CoreDualVSTA (modded BIOS rev 2.39a)
2x1 GB Kingston 533
Radeon 4850 1GB
Corsair TX650W
Windows XP 32-bit

I have also experienced this, but only after playing for about... 8-10 hours straight (yes, I love this game TOO much). Before the slowdown occures the load time is mostly about 10-30 secs, and after the slowdown it can reach load times of up to 4 minutes, just for walking from a specefic area to your camp. I have also noticed the increase of time it takes for the game to react to the key presses. Not as bad as 10 seconds, but around 3-5 seconds. Also talking speed is reduced, it took Alistair 2 minutes to understand that I was talking to him once, which was quite annoying.

I am running the game with fullscreen, 1920x1080 res, everything on highest except AA, which is on lowest (makes no difference anyway).

CPU usage doesent change much during the playing time and tabbing out of the game is smooth, CPU is always surfing at about 60-70% used, and RAM on ~80%. And that is with like 20 application running in the background.

System specs:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300 (2.5GHZ/Core)
4 GB of DDR2 RAM
nVidia Geforce 220GT
1TB SATA

Running Windows 7 64bit home premium with DirectX 10 (I belive, my dxdiag doesnt like me).
Hope this could be of any help. :)

Sincerly,

Same issue here. Core i7-920, Windows 7 64-bit, 6 GB DDR3-1600 RAM, Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R motherboard, NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT (yeah, I need to upgrade the video card soon). Different graphics drivers don't cause any changes in load times for me. The game runs pretty smoothly for the most part, but after around 30 minutes to 1 hour, load times have significantly increased - loading a save file only takes around 5 seconds after starting the game, but it can easily take a minute or more after a length of playing. I haven't got any extremely long loading screens, but I usually restart the game every couple of hours. I've also noticed that the longer I play, the more hiccups and pauses there are, such as when opening my inventory or talking to an NPC.

I don't know if this has been mentioned before or tried by another member but I recently started having the same problem and I am pretty certain that I solved it. I'm in my second playthrough right now, during the first (87 hours according to the game) everything was working great so I was a bit puzzled trying to figure out what had changed to cause this behavior.
The only thing that changed in my PC, was that I updated my directx files. Then I remembered that I was messing around with some options and checked the "Disable Aspect-Ratio Correction" setting (which I have no idea what it's for). I changed it back to the previous setting (unchecked) and my loading times are back to normal.
I'm not sure if this could be the case for the rest of you but it certainly doesnt hurt to try.

My system is quite fast, i7 920-gtx 295-6gb ram playing in windows 7 x64 @1920x1200. Hope this helps

I almost can't believe it, but I think you're on to something.  I'm not sure if load times are totally constant over time with this setting changed; however, in my casual testing earlier today I didn't notice much if any change over the course of an hour or so of play.

For the record, that setting adjusts your field of view based on your desktop aspect ratio.  Leaving it unchecked forces the game to use your desktop resolution's ratio, even if you use a different resolution in the game itself; checking the option lets the game handle it instead.  I'm not sure why it's there in the first place, since leaving it unchecked can lead to anomalies like a stretched image.

I'd also like to point out that it's possible Alt+Tab will increase load times and stutters overall; I can't say for sure if this is true, but I do tend to Alt+Tab a lot while playing (mostly for looking up information on Wikia and the like), so it'd be interesting if someone would do a comparison between Alt+Tabbing over an hour or two of play, vs. no Alt+Tabbing over an hour or two.

- how long does a loading screen last after having played for a few hours (and how many hours you've played).

50 seconds-1:20 minutes

- amount of RAM you have on your system

4GB DDR3 1600Mhz

- During the super long load screen, is the hard drive indicator light constantly blinking?

Yes, a little bit...but not very intensive..it is normal

I have a intel i5 @3.3ghz 4gb ram ddr3 gtx260 super overclocked SOC from gigabyte.I am running all settings on max without AA and frame buffer in 1280x1024.

I hope this information will speed up the marking of the patch to fix this big bug.

I play in a window and have notice the transitions start slowing about 1 hour and a half into playing.

My PC is running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, Duo core AMD, 4GB ram and ATI 4670.

You mean checked or unchecked?  Because I have the load issues and that options has been unchecked all along.    I really think this is an issues with the engine and the way it handles RAM memory.  Only fix will be from the developers themself.

^Move somewhere better? xD

Yes, I have this issue as well. I once waited 10 minutes to go into a house the size of a small apartment...

Vista 64

4gb RAM

1800 Quad

Geforce 9800 GTX+ OC @ 1gb

I have run in the -singlecore parameter, no change in load times.

I also use a G15 keyboard, monitoring my CPU/RAM usage. I've noticed that the game EATS CPU power far more than it should.

Right now, with my browser, DAO start window, and Ventrilo running, I'm sitting at 3% CPU usage, and 37% RAM.

....now let me start the game.

40% CPU

50% RAM

At the main game screen.

...and I click Resume...

74-95% CPU (varies)

61% Ram

Something in the game's engine dumps memory in the CPU... I would expect my RAM to be taking over that process.

Wow didn't realize that this was a major issue, 14 pages so far. Kind of felt it was minor compared to some issues that I have an issue with. I do agree that I have this issue from time to time, but I attributed it to videos or scripted sequences being loaded. When I get a loading screen it was a great time for me to get up and stretch my legs, lord knows after 6 hours of straight on gaming a lot can happen. Oh and my rig is a year old with Windows 7 64-Bit with all graphics maxed.

I am 100% certain this was the cause of the problem in my case, I've been playing this game for many hours (5-6 hours straight in many cases) and my loading times have been ranging from a couple of seconds to 10-12 max. When I started having this problem it went to 30 or more seconds, not always, but often enough for it to be very irritating. The game is installed in a SSD, it didn't make sense. Thankfully it was easy to find the cause since I'd changed only that particular setting.

I suspect most people don't mess with that setting so I don't know if my "solution" works for the rest of you having this problem, I hope it can help some at least.

It seems the game is unresponsive several seconds before it starts loading. It's getting worse over time.

Did not have this issue on Windows XP pro (x32). Only seen it on Win 7 x64 (haven't tested win7 x32).

The BIG question is if they will fix this in the expansion?

Do not be nervous, i think BioWare was busy whit the Mass Effect 2 game...and all that stuff to sell the game, and they didn't have time with the dragon age.I think that will be a patch...and i think they will rereased with the awakening addon.

I hope !!

It's available in the DAO configuration utility - select "configure" from the game launcher.

I do believe that dragon age is made by a canadian team and mass effect by an american all working for bioware, so technically one should not affect the other.

I think the problem is worse than anticipated and they might be doing huge amounts of recoding or reprogramming the game. I have played a bit so far...i have had no lag but i am barely starting, i wanted to wait until most of the bugs were gone but i think it aint gonna happen anytime soon. I might also suggest that awakenign might get delayed because the game needs to be brought up to par to jive with awakening.

I still maintain that awakening will be the patch for the original game. It will probably implement a lot of new things. What would be the point of releasing a patch just before awakening only to have awakening change things again on people.

I could see a hot fix but not a full patch...and what they have called so far for patches in my opinion qualify as hotfixes...
