I'm having the same issue too. Load times just get longer and longer until I just don't feel like playing anymore.

I was playing Fallout 3 earlier, and I noticed how the load times were pretty much non-existent. Maybe a second or half a second between zones. How come this game takes so long?

:[

My system meets recommended requirements, but I play in Medium setting for smoothness' sake.

I could make do with the longer loading times, but my frame rate also takes a hit after continues play. Usually after 30 min or so. Really annoying and surprised it's not fixed yet. Must be something really wrong somewhere in the code, or too many resources would be required to fix it and the big fellas don't want to shell out the loots!

Does anyone even know the last time a Bioware poster looked at this thread? The OP went silent pages ago.

Yes, back on page 3 of this topic, and not since.  It makes me wonder if they don't know a fix for this problem, or maybe they will fix it in Awakenings. Let's hope so.

I think they know that the game has a problem and now remain quiet and stay to the conclusion that the game is some kind of "failure" and they will wait for the people to forget about the game and his problem. "Stay in the shadow, let the people pass" Some kind of that. I hope is not that!!!!

Typically the load screen is fast on the very first load, like at startup, but the 2nd one immediately slows down. If I play to a 3rd load, the load time gets excessive sometimes Task Manager reports DAO as "not responding" even tho the celtic swirl is still spinning and loading.

Currently have 6gigs ram with a phenom 9600 quad-core.

Changing the number of cores the game uses has no noticeable effect.

I can play ME2 fine with settings on max, yet DAO is virtually unplayable.  I really hope that the xpac is not a "fix" to this problem as it would imply that they refuse to fix the problem unless we fork up more money to EA.  The game should of been playable right out of the box.

well, I had a real revelation today. Yesterday I had to re-install my windows xp, and I spent all day downloading stuff, so today I re-installed DA and didn't install the patches, and didn't update my driver like last time I had played.

I played the game for 3 hours with no slow loading, the longest load was 35 seconds, and at the end of that time I quit the game for a few hours. I have just finished playing the game for another 3  hours with no loading slow down. Now I can't say for certain that the bug is in the patches, but it sure seems like it to me.

One other thing I didn't do was to download Warden's Keep, Return to Ostagar, or The Stone Prisoner,  since I had already played them twice, all I downloaded was The Memory Band,The Edge, and Dragon armor.

Have any of you tried playing the game unpatched? If so did you find the loading time didn't slow down?

This is so god damn frustrating. I really think that Mass Effect 3 will be the last game I ever purchase from Bioware.

unfortunately i have to debunk this i just uninstalled dao and reinstalled to 1.0 i then created a new game without logging in or downloading anything i played a female elf mage and by the"basement" level  loading screen time was 2:59
this was about 30 mins or so in (skipping any sidequests and hitting esc through all conversations)
the harddrive light was off almost the entire time (flickered once every 30 seconds or so) of the loading screen only coming on (pretty much constantly) for about the last 10 seconds before the loading screen disappeared

schalafi how much stuff did you download? i mean did you just run all the downloads for winxp or did you put everything else on as well themes antivirus itunes etc etc not that im asking for a list ( just a nothing but the basics, some essential programs, things i use constantly, the works; kind of idea) but curious if it could be something external that happens to interfere with DAO

I have a 4 yr old pc with a nvidea7900gtx 650mhz 512mb gddr3 pci-e video card. It's a pentium 4 cpu 3.20 ghz 3.00 gb ram. It is just barely above the posted requirements to play DA and it works really well. I did notice that when I updated my vid driver it started to lag a bit so I rolled it back to the old driver and that was actually better.

When I re-installed Windows xp, I only installed the basics, plus Internet, virus protection, Jade Empire, a photo editing program, and Windows updates plus sp3. That's about all I've installed at this time. I'm beginning to wonder if dual core and quad core pcs are necessary, since my pc works fine.

I don't understand why I'm not getting the long loads and lags I had before, unless I just had too much stuff installed. My pc has an Asus p5n32-sli deluxe mob and 2 hard drives, I don't really understand all the internal workings of a pc though, so I'm just giving you what I can in describing my pc.

What is your operating system and do you have a ton of other programs/games installed? I really have no answers for you other than clearing some of the unnecessary stuff from your pc, since I really don't know why mine is working better now. I hope this helps. : )

DA probably works on your system because basically it is a 4 year old game.....I guess it just took to long to make. Most computers / games have moved on. Guess we all need to go and buy 486 DX2 to play Dragon Age.

well after your post im considering reformatting my comp and seeing if that gets rid of the issue if it does ill have to see if installing something specific causes the load times to start jumping up

I ended up pulling my hair out at the degrading performance. FPS dropping low after only 2-5 mins, stuttering in the cut scenes and game play plus the loading times increasing.

In the end I un-installed and kept my save files. Re-Installed and didn't patch/add download content and it runs fine with no problems.

It still uses 100%cpu on the menu and during play but that doesn't affect it. The fights seem to have gotten harder but I remember reading one of the patches say that it had changed the fight mechanics, or something to that affect, I've not played the game long and I carried on playing from where I left off before the re-install. In hindsight I believe that I may have gone to areas I shouldn't go to until I have better gear and levelled more hence why the difficulty seemed harder without the patch. The map is pretty much open from the start so you need to maybe try different areas if your tanks are getting owned to easy.

One thing that I did different, apart from not patching the game, is I ran the DirectX update on the disc even though I knew I had the latest DirectX (I had tried all sorts of updates to try and fix the problem initially) I cant confirm if this is a possible solution as I haven't patched the game or downloaded the added content.

My initial opinion is that it seems like the change in battle mechanics is causing some people to have problems......? ... or is it the DirectX.....?

I'll try adding the download content (if it moves off 0%) and the patch again soon enough and report back on here if anything seems to cause the degrading performance.

Hope it helps.

My specs in case it helps:

Win xp 32bit
E6600 duel core 3.33
4gig (3gig in xp) ddr2
4870x2 (Fan goes stupid high when playing)
crappy mboard
I also have beer!!!

All the helpful suggestions that everyone is making is nice to see...but, for those that have shelled out close to 100 dollars now for this "new" game, we shouldn't have to get our rocket science degrees trying to figure out how to make the game run.

Uninstalling this, and uninstalling that....downgrading this program, upgrading something else and trying out other OS's...we shouldn't have to do any of this. What about some of the people that have no idea how to do this stuff? Unless they stumble across the forums and read the tech pages, they'll probably uninstall the game and toss it in the trash.

I know there's a zillion computer configs out there and I don't think I've seen anyone post a rig that is exactly the same as anybody elses...but come on, we put people on the freakin moon!!!

But doesn't that sort of tell you that it may not be your computer's config as much as that something in the game is the culprit? If everyone has different pcs and some are old, some are upgraded, some are new, and they all have the slow bug,  it  isn't "rocket science" to finally conclude it's something in the downloaded content, e.g., patches, and/or additional content?

That was the whole point of my post...we shouldn't have to go through all the dectective work just to get a brand new game to work properly. We are paying money for a defective product and having to jump through hoops in order to get it to run.

Ok, I believe I found the solution to my problem.

I re-installed the patches one at a time just to make sure it wasn't a patch issue. I then installed the Blood Dragon Armour and all was running well. You seem to need the latest patches to actually download the content.

I then downloaded the Stone Prisoner content and bam! stuttering in game, cut scenes and inventory etc, low fps and longer load times.

I quit to menu, went into the downloadable content area and then to Installed content, disabled the Stone Prisoner content and the game is back to normal again.

Another weird thing I noticed is that the bots seemed to just randomly not attack. Not sure if they have gone back to normal again now I have the content disabled as I'm just tab-alted out of game so will report back if it does...

Back to the slashing !!!!

Last night I got a bit of a slow down after playing for about six hours. It was the load for Haven, and I don't know why that particular place was so long, (.2 min.) I' been having fast loads,(30/40 seconds). Then this one. I shut down the game and went to bed. I'm just starting to play again now, so I'll see if the fast loads are back. If so, then it seems like the longer you play, the more the game does something to your pc that slows it down, however i've never experienced 3+minute loads

ever.

Urgh, whilst initially doing "-dx9" to force the renderer worked, now it's slowing down for that too.
