... the game has a memory leak... I don't know what triggers it or why it's so sporadic, but its there.

I first noticed it on my pc, sometimes the game runs like a dream for hours, others it's lagging, freezing and crashing for no apparent reason.

Initially I thought that it was just my machine, but then I noticed the same problems on my friend's ps3 version.

I've noticed that more often than not the game starts lagging after some cutscene conversations with npc's outside the party, and the longer load times begin plaguing my game at the following transition.

I don't know about all of you, but I've been a member of Bio boards since 2003, and I've *NEVER* seen such poor responses from a mod or dev to a game breaking problem like this. Look at all of the names below, and tell me that just one of them couldn't take a minute of they're "oh so valuable time" to tell us anything about this bug, and if/when it's going to be fixed. Kevin Lynch, Stanley Woo, David Gaider, Fernando Melo, LdyShayna, all these people used to give us some indication that we were being heard, now...nothing. I just don't understand it! : (
- how long does a loading screen last after having played for a few hours (and how many hours you've played). Please measure the time with a stopwatch and don't use an estimate. Does this happen every single time you play?
After 1 hour typical loading ranges anywhere from 1:30 to 4:42 depending on location. After 2 hours I have not seen a load time under 4:10 and highest I had was 6:33.
- amount of RAM you have on your system
6GB
- During the super long load screen, is the hard drive indicator light constantly blinking?
Yes.
- is the loading times situation affected at all if you force the game to run on a single CPU only? To do that, start the game with the "-singlecore" command line parameter.
No noticeable effect at all.

I notice orzammar and deep roads particularly bad where I see the slowdowns after switching zone more than twice. Whereas elsewhere in the world it seems to take 10+ change of zones before things start to really drag down.

Could anyone contact the admins and make some complaint, because I think they do not look here on the forum or they don't want to make a fix for the game.If they working on a patch or not, they would say anything,BUT they don't say anything. If a patch will be created i think will have the size of 120-140mb.''

Look sory for this...but if one user is living in Canada...or what is the country of BioWare headquaters, could speak with they about this problem?

I think they don't want to fix this problem because they consider it "NOT OFFICIAL".

They are working on it, the patch will be released at around the same time the expansion pack is released for the PC version.

Optimistic guessing or do you have a source for that information?

Well, after further reading on the web about this I followed sme peoples advise about cleaning my card/cpu of dust.

I brought a compressed air canister and a cleaning brush from PC world and with my Dyson got to work on my pc. Low and behold !! it now runs like a dream with no loading times or perfomance issues.

It would seem that the game likes 100% gpu and 100% cpu so will over time stress the best of systems.

Id suggest people try this if they havnt cleaned their Gcard or CPU heatsink/fan in over 6 months.

Great game btw!! Shame all the semi-naked female demons are the same skin though :(

where does it say this?  link please. It is usually good custom and practice to cite instances after making a statement. Didn't quite see the BIOWARE logo under your name.

I've found a possible solution, sense most of you have multi core processors i decided to try something that worked with a few other games, set core affinity to one of the cores. Its been working fine ever since. Be warned, you have set core affinity at after starting the game everytime.

Can you tell me how to do that exactly Gunney?

What Gunney refering is "well known" to work for Mass Effect 2 (yes - you have slow loadtimes also here!!!). Unfortunately it does not speed up the loading times in Dragons Age on my system. The poor coding seems more severe here.

Heres a link on how to do this in Mass Effect 2. The basics are the same for Dragons Age but obviously you have to choose another process:

I recently upgraded from a AMD 4800 Duel Core to a AMD Athlon II 630 processor 2.80 Ghz, surprise, surprise I can actually play the game fine now, it only cost an extra £189.

*Sigh* Is this topic dead yet? Why do they even keep it around if they have no intention of helping us?

Ok, I believe I found the solution to my problem.

I then downloaded the Stone Prisoner content and bam! stuttering in game, cut scenes and inventory etc, low fps and longer load times.

I quit to menu, went into the downloadable content area and then to Installed content, disabled the Stone Prisoner content and the game is back to normal again.

I'll test this.  Though this would be a shame as Shale is one of my favorite characters to use in the game.  I'll brb with the results for this later.

I think Hazeguy may be on to something. I just disabled Stone Prisoner and already my game was running near flawless with far less stuttering than it used to. I wonder if more people can test this out, see if this helps their systems too. This is sad...I really liked Shale too. :(

I also think that the game works on performant monitors LCD. I test the game on a 1680x1050 monitor and I THNK it works better.Next month i will buy a 19" CLD with 85Hz an 2 ms.And i will test the game in 85Hz to see the difference.

Will you guys listen to yourselves, you sound like a bunch of superstitious old women...if i clap my hands and turn around clockwise 3 times, spit over my shoulder and then load up DA:O , it magically works.Youre guessing its cos of different monitors already...cmon, this has gone far enough. The game is broken and the dev's need to fix it.Its supposed to work on any system that meets the requirements not on a few specific rigs...ffs.None of the workarounds are actual fixes, they may improve gameplay slightly but at one point it will get messed up again and we shouldnt even be lookin for goddamn workararounds to actualy play.Enough pampering the devs, if i pay for a product i expect it to work, and if it doesnt work i expect to atleast get an answer why not.All we get is silence and its been 4 months since the release i think.Thats just bullexcrement.

Honestly,i must confess that Airborne Virus is right.I have this game for 4 months and only got to Lothering cause of this problem.Waiting patiently for a fix since release.I made no complains,i just waited sure that a fix would not take long. But seriously...this has gone on long enough.Just tell us what is happening Bioware? Will it not get fixed? You got no idea wtf is happening? Will it be fixed with the expansion? How exactly are we supposed to buy the expansion when we can't even play the original?Dragon Age is an awesome game, but being unplayable as it is its like giving us a ferrari without a key.

I can foresee this happening in the expansion, which suck's because it's only 12 day's away from release and they still have no fix for this. Might not be worth the money to waste even more time restarting the game everytime it want's to slow down. couple min's of restart every 20 min's (for me) begin to add up.

If it was just a restart, no big deal, I find I need to reboot after a while. And yes, a fix would be nice for this problem. I don't have it with any other game, including ME2. Wavering on whether to buy Awakening.
