- how long does a loading screen last after having played for a few hours (and how many hours you've played). Please measure the time with a stopwatch and don't use an estimate. Does this happen every single time you play?
After 2-3 hours of play, my load screens can take up to 2:15 minutes for larger areas. Happens every single time I play. Also vendor inventories take longer to access the longer I play, sometimes 5-7 seconds to show the inventory.

- amount of RAM you have on your system
12GB DDR3 running at 1400Mhz 7-7-7-20
(other info: i7 920 3.6ghz, 2TB free disk space, 2xGTX260 sli, Windows 7 64 bit)

- will the problem happen in windowed mode or fullscreen only?
Both

- During the super long load screen, is the hard drive indicator light constantly blinking?
no

- Do you have any custom mods installed?
no, only offical dlc (eg wardens keep, stone prisoner, blood armor)

- a screenshot of the task manager with a list of processes running on your system during a very long loading screen, sorted by memory usage.
to update next time I play that long

Not having all available data, I did notice I was able to "speed up" the process of the long loads much quicker (usually within 15-20 minutes of game playing time) when constantly using the "tab" key for locating items in screen and pressing "esc" frequently through dialogue. I notice not only the long load times, but also lag in game gets worse (i.e. inventory, skills, journal, etc takes upwards to 10 seconds to appear after clicking on the icon, plus camera rotation and in game movement stutters get extremely worse, especially when holding down the "tab" key while rotating camera, conversation boxes with npc's also stutter and lag) Exiting and restarting the game cures this.

System:

Core I7 940 (no OC)

EVGA X58 SLi

2-Nvidia 295 graphics cards in sli

12 gigs memory

6 hard drives (2-3 HD raid setup, 1 for quad boot OS and 1 for data and games)

2 optical drives (DVD and BD)

SB titanium PCI-E

Windows 7 64bit (other versions installed but not used for this game)

There are some things i noticed on this issue as well.

When i play for more than an hour and during that time i go to a lot different areas (as other people have said) then the loading times start to get quite long. From a few seconds when the game starts to almost 2 or 3 whole minutes after that time. Most problems encountered in Denerim and Orzammar right now. In orzammar to get from the common quarter to the diamond quarter took me 3 and a half minutes looking at the loading screen.

Something else that i have noticed, although i don't know if it has anything to do with the issue. When i run around Denerim for example, everything seems fine but when i start pressing "tab" to highlight items in the world, then things are starting to get a lot more choppy. Its then that all the panels (character, inventory etc) start to come up a lot slower as well. If i try to go to another area at that point, its certain that the loading time will be quite long.

My systems basics are: 2GB of ram, Quad core CPU at 2.7Ghz (Q9400) and a GTX285 gfx card

Edit 1: Forgot to mention that i run on Windows xp SP2

Edit 2: Something i noticed is that when things start to get choppy and loading times get out of hand,  if i save the game (not quicksave but a normal one) then it stops and goes back to normal. Loading times do get a bit better as well

An alternative to all the problem posts, for comparison – no noticeable/significant lag or slowdown in gameplay, loading times rarely exceed 20-30 seconds, even after 3-4 hours play, and I don’t think I’ve ever had to wait a whole minute. It has however black-screened and effectively crashed on a couple of occasions on area transition, but this is rare. My setup seems quite low compared to some people who are experiencing problems.

Settings:
Resolution: 1920x1080
Graphics detail: High
Anti-Aliasing: Off
Texture Detail: High
Full Screen: On
V-Sync: On
Frame-Buffer Effects: On
3 Disable options: Off

OS:
Windows XP SP3

Other Programs:
Truecrypt (full disk encryption on both hard drives), control/config apps for MX Revolution Mouse and Logitech Gaming Keyboard, Trillian Basic, usually a few folders open, 2-3 copies of IE7, 2-3 Copies Firefox 3, Thunderbird, and maybe an Excel Spreadsheet and Word Document or two,

Processor:
Intel Core2 Duo E8500 @ 3.16GHz (DEP Turned on)

RAM
2x1GB Corsair XMS2 800MHz/PC2-6400 Non-ECC Unbuffered CL4(4-4-4-12)
Virtual memory: System Managed, usually around 2-3GB on the C: drive

Graphics Card
Single XFX 9600GT XXX 512MB DDR3 (the factory overclocked version)

Hard Disks
C: WD Caviar RE2 500GB S300 16MB (O/S + Apps, some docs etc) 240GB Free
D: WD Caviar Black 1TB 32MB (Games/Music/Data) Only 120GB Free

Game installed to D: drive:
Main Game, Wardens Keep, Stone Prisoner, Sample Party Chest, plus all the extra stuff (pre-order items, collectors edition, journeys, the edge)

I’m a hoarder, wardens keep chest is quite full, as is the devs sample party chest.

Yeah all it does for me is lower FPS. difference was negligible.

Had a go at single core on both the desktop and the laptop. It made the desktop a little smoother, going to use it like this for a while and see if it stays. On the laptop it made no positive difference. As darkshadow said if anything it lowered fps slightly.

My system:

i7 @ 4.24 gHz, Foxconn Blood rage M/B, twin BFG 285's in Sli mode, 6gb of memory (usable memory), Vista 32bit- up to date as well, latest NF drivers, 32" Samsung @ 1370x758 (wide screen 720p mode).

The longer you play the worse the load times get, this is the only game that troubles this PC. It is far from taxing the video section, so? It even lags the system when the windows promt is used to get to the desktop it takes about 30 or so seconds for the "freeze" to disapate (so to speak) then every thing on the desk top then works. I have found re-booting solves these problems, but only temporary. It repats this same issue after extended game play times.

BTW, I am leaning towards this being an adobe issue- could AIR be causing this problem?

I moved 80 of the 92 save games onto a different directory, but also used my system settings to change my pagefile onto the non-daorigins loaded hard drive.  Last night I had no slow down in load times.  I'm guessing it's the pagefile.sys rather than the save games.  Tonight I'll put the save games back, but leave pagefile on the non-daorigins drive and see what happens.

Drat - last night was not positive.  After 3 hrs I was back at 3 1/2 minutes load time.  Hadn't changed a thing from the previous night.  But...
The previous night I had spent entirely at the ruined temple / etc.  Ending the night with several attempts at beating the optional boss.
Last night I was doing a lot of travelling - redcliff/denerim and some minor quests in the countryside.

It will be interesting to see if it is related to changing major areas vs. sub areas.  Will try to spend a significant amount of time in one area and see if the slowdown still occurs.

- how long does a loading screen last after having played for a few
hours (and how many hours you've played). Please measure the time with
a stopwatch and don't use an estimate. Does this happen every single
time you play?

The length of time between starting the game and it beginning to have increasingly long load times gets shorter for me based on how much of the game I have completed, or could be attributed to the number of save games I have maybe?  Early in the game I can play for about 2-3 hours (Between starting a new character and playing through lothering, and the two DLC areas) before I start noticing a significant increase in load times, whereas during the final siege, I usually have to restart the game after two area transitions, which was about every 15-30 minutes.

The ones I timed early in the game lasted between 2 minutes and 37 seconds, and increased over the next half hour to one that lasted 4 minutes and 51 seconds.  The ones from later in the game lasted between 2:51 to 3:42

- amount of RAM you have on your system

I have 6GB RAM (OS Windows Vista 64-bit SP2 with an Intel® Core i7 CPU 920@ 2.67HGz)

All of my system specs are well above the recommended for the game.

- During the super long load screen, is the hard drive indicator light constantly blinking?

No, only blinks occasionally

-
a screenshot of the task manager with a list of processes running on
your system during a very long loading screen, sorted by memory usage.
To get this screenshot:

During both the beginning and and game loads:

daorigins.exe was taking 737,600K  memory with a little fluctuation of about 300-400 up and down
firefox was taking 251,400K
svchost.exe also takes 204,676K

- is the
loading times situation affected at all if you force the game to run on
a single CPU only? To do that, start the game with the "-singlecore"
command line parameter.

I did not see any improvement by forcing it to run on a single CPU

In addition, I do not have any mods installed, nor have I ever had any installed.

As mentioned by others, my CPU is at 100% even at the menu screen.

It doesn't work for everyone as this fix degrades further the game performance. I tried that before but it got worse and the game lag is heavy. My processor build might be the cause, mine's an AMD Athlon 7750.

Generally gets to around 5 minutes after a few hours.  When game first runs, it takes maybe 15-20 seconds.  I noticed the biggest change when traviling within Orzammar [the city itself], although the loading bug is present when going between other areas.

- amount of RAM you have on your system

Currently 6GB 1333 DDR3 running 9-9-9-25 timings

- During the super long load screen, is the hard drive indicator light constantly blinking?

Yes

- a screenshot of the task manager with a list of processes running on your system during a very long loading screen, sorted by memory usage. To get this screenshot:
   - If you're running in fullscreen mode during the loading screen, press Alt+Tab to return to the desktop
   - Right click on the window's task bar and select "Task manager"
   - On the window that appears, select the "Processes" tab
   - Click on the "Memory" cell in the grid that appears, so procecess that use more memory appear on top
   - Press Ctrl+Print Screen to take a screenshot of the window. Paste that in a program of your chose (like Paint) and save it out as an image. Alternatively you can type in your reply the name and memory usage of the processes that use lots of memory.

Not worth it, considing that Task Manager's "memory usuage" category actually measures the amount of Address Space each program has reserved, and doesn't actually measure how much active memory is being used at any point in time.

Nope [well, besides taking longer all around :D)

CPU: Intel QX9650 @ 4.2 GHz
RAM: 6GB 1333 DDR3 @ 9-9-9-25
Motherboard: XFX nforce 790i Ultra
GPU: XFX ATI 4890 [waiting for G300 series to come out :D]
SPU: ASUS Xonar D2

you may want to post a sticky link to this thread in other DAO forums,if many people are like me, they don't check the PC support forum very often, even though I do have the "Slow Load problem" - I had kind of given up on a fix. Good to see this thread!!

just a quick note, when running my desktop on -singlecore while it made general play a little neater I soon noticed that trees in 2d (those off in the background before becoming 3d) flashed and flickered. Dont go in the woods with single core, it'll make your eyes bleed. Dual core sorted that out again.

Like I said just a note, probably not important.

*edit* added more info
I've done some extensive testing for you on this - and timed correctly.  I've always done the timing when entering Denerim from any other location from the world map.
I've also noticed that the world map screen becomes jerky and slow (the red blood trail) after visiting any location on the map - it seems to be smooth and quick only the first time you travel, after that you have to exit the game and reload to get one quick and smooth travel.

- how long does a loading screen last after having played for a few hours (and how many hours you've played). Please measure the time with a stopwatch and don't use an estimate. Does this happen every single time you play?

This happens every time I play without fail.
a 1 hour 45 minute play
Start of game - camp to Denerim - Instant Load
15 mins anywhere to Denerim - 3 seconds
25 mins anywhere to Denerim - 6 seconds
30 mins anywhere to Denerim - 9 seconds
60 mins anywhere to Denerim - 11 seconds (game performance begins to suffer here as well)
105 mins anywhere to Denerim - 22 seconds (as above and vendors slow down as well)
From experience this gets longer and longer the more you play.

- Amount of RAM in your system?
6.00 GB Ram - Windows Vista 64bit service pack 2 - Intel Quad Core Q9550 - Nvidia Geforce GTX 285 Driver 195.62 WHQL

- During the super long load screen, is the hard drive indicator light constantly blinking?
Very slightly with a quick flicker at the end when loaded.

- a screenshot of the task manager with a list of processes running on your system.
30 mins - daorigins.exe 1,143,440k
                  explorer.exe          23,800k
60 mins - daorigins.exe 1,192,612k
                  explorer.exe          26,508k

105 mins - daorigins.exe  1,215,360k
                     explorer.exe           26,254k

- Does this happen in fullscreen and windowed mode?
I only play in fullscreen.

-Do you have any mods running?
No - I don't have any mods installed.

- is the loading times situation affected at all if you force the game to run on a single CPU only? To do that, start the game with the "-singlecore" command line parameter.
Not tried yet, I will edit this in later!

If there is anything else I can do to help - please let me know.

Just to insert something here.

I found that on my system i was having problems however a friend was having no problems at all, the systems were very similar in all but the number of cores, he had 1 i had dual core, so i changed the affinity on Dragonage to ONLY use the second core and bang all my problems are now gone, load times the unusual "lag" in game where it stutters, everything.

Just to indicate my system

4gp Ram Windows vista 64 bit AMD 64 X2 Dual core 5000+ and Nvidia Geforce 9800GT

I hope this helps in some way

- how long does a loading screen last after having played for a few
hours (and how many hours you've played).

After first starting the game the loads don't take more than 15-20 seconds at most. AFter loading a few areas and/or playing for a few hours it can take as much as 2-3 minutes.

- amount of RAM you have on your system

2gigs physical, 2 gigs virtual.

- During the super long load screen, is the hard drive indicator light constantly blinking?

If the game is freshly started and the loading times are quick, the LED lights up bright and stays on until the area is loaded. When the load times get longer, the LED blinks for few miliseconds every second or so, indicating very little IO.

-
a screenshot of the task manager with a list of processes running on
your system during a very long loading screen.

~750megs "Mem usage", page at 70%, physical at ~50 megs free.

You know I remember reading one post that mentioned the codex...I have found if I read or at least click on new items in the codex as soon as I get them, I can play for 5 or 6 hours with out seeing load times greater than a minute...often times around 30 seconds. I'm only running a X2 4200 processor with 2 gigs of ram and dual 8600GT video cards on XP SP3. I have noticed the long loading times usually after around 3 hours of play (especially in Orzammar) which is a heavy codex gathering area if I've ignored clearing flashing item in the codex. I've haven't set a stop watch to it, but I played for close to 7 hours today and did not have to reboot once...it might be worth it to check it out. I have also had the CPU at 100% and noticed that when I see the long load times, I have no hard drive activity or sound until right before the area loads.

I always run in full screen mode.

I've updated my post here with screen shots and loading times. Figured I'd make a new post and point that out so it's not missed by the dev's, just in case it helps with figuring out the problem.

Kodi41 - My computer doesn't have anything Adobe on it at the moment and I'm still having the loading times issue, so I don't think that's it.

In fact I only have a single core CPU. While the game runs perfectly fine otherwise, the loading times bug occurs regularly.

I can also confirm that the situation get's worse faster if I use the Tab-key alot. But non the less, orzammar breaks my loadtimes. So to ensure it's not my HDD that's troubling, I installed DA:O at my System SSD (Intel X25-M 80GB). Still no change with the loadtime bug.My Pagefile.sys resides on a Hitachi 1TB HDD. This has continuos readtimes of about 90MB/s which should be more than sufficiant.Since I get 4gb Ram from RMA in 2 till 4 weeks, I will test it with Pagefile.sys at Ramdrive then.
Edit: I also have Adobe Products installed. Hmm....
