This may or may not be related, but this problem acts a lot like what happened in the game Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines.  The farther along you got in the game, the longer the load times became.  I'm not saying the problems are the same--I know squat about programming.  Anyway, the way they solved the problem in VTMB was to change the pagefile size and also the heapsize (see here for details on how it was done for VTMB).

I do not know if this is the problem, but I thought I'd bring it up as something for the programmers to look at.

It's not a lack of memory issue, unless this game mysteriously needs more then 6 gigs of RAM O_O

The game is utterly unplayable the way it is. They should give everybody their money back until this is resolved. Then let us decide if we want to try it again. And once you get close to the endgame(finally) the game slows down so much it's like slow motion, and impossible to play. A few bugs I understand, but this is unacceptable.

That's not entirely true. Saving and restarting the game fixes the loading times temporarily. It's irritating to be sure, but not exactly game breaking.

I did some browsing around and found this.

" found solution. Problem was in .Net framework. Our windows 7 turned it off automatically. You could write in search command: turn windows features on or off. there u should pick .net framework and activate it. but i did also downloaded netframework 4 beta, so im not sure, which worked to fix game lag. Try this and please comment here if it works. thank you"

I downloaded the .net framework 4 beta 2 and did as he said. So far it seems to have done the trick with me.

AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition 3.2GHz

ASUS Crosshair III Formula AM3 790FX

4GB DDR2 RAM

GeForce GTX 295 1792 MB 896 PCI-E

If your talking about the Phenom problem, that does not affect only the load times, it also affects general performance and other programs as well.

As this is apparently still elusive for some reason, I would ask the devs if it is possible to get a debug or "logging" build? Minor change to the code: When doing area transitions or map travel, the program writes to a logfile (which we could post / upload as needed). Example:

15:54:17 Leave Redcliffe

15:54:17 CPU Total 84%

15:54:17 Memory Total 2104MB

15:55:30 Arrive Denerim

Seems like that would let you get precisely the data capture you need, and presumably something you could easily enable / disable from the command line or "options" menu (logging / nologging)...

I have no problems with any other game but this. Only playing this game do you need to disable the TLB for it to run anything like it should.

I cannot believe EA / Bioware released this game not knowing about the loading / lagging problem, this thread is just soaking up time until they either decide to fix the problem or not.

I have completed the game and can't say I will play it again. Just posted this information re the above link in case it helped.

I tried this - no luck fixing the problem for me, it did slow the problem down though - it took longer for the slow loadings to start - but not enough for it to matter.

Wish I could help pin this problem down, it's really annoying.

Any update on this since asking us to try running on a single core?

EDIT: I should really read everyone's posts instead of just Bioware's, apparently.  My bad.

Yeah it's still going to be pretty hard to pinpoint the cause considering how varied the responses from people are.

After extensive testing of gameplay yesterday, I provide what hopefully will be semi-useful information.
First, I was NOT playing for 14:09 hours straight.  I did kiss the kids hello after school, make dinner, and take biobreaks.  I left the game running during those times.  I feel compelled to point out that I have some kind of life despite the evidence to the contrary,   Other than twiddling my thumbs while waiting through the increasingly long load times, I did quite enjoy myself playing the game, however.  Second, I do not think load times greater than 30-45 seconds are 'normal', no matter how awesome the game may be.  Third, the game would not minimize immediately  using either alt-tab or the windows button during a long load, so it was very hard to get screenshots of the processes during those times.  Fourth, I experienced significant lag/stuttering/single digit FPS in the lower ruins, and did manage to get a screenshot of the processes going on then.  The difference between the amount of memory used during trouble-free play and lagging play/long loads was as much as 100,000k on my computer.
During the long load times, the hard drive indicator blinked very infrequently.  I did not try to play in windowed mode.  I have no mods installed.  I did not try to force the game to run on 1 core.

I have an Athlon II X4 620 processor with 6Gb of RAM running Windows 7 (64)

My problem is a little different than all the other posts I have read about slow loading times. I haven't really encountered slow loading times (more than 30 seconds or so) no matter how many hours I have played. The only problem I am having is trying to get into any one of the three Nightmare areas in the Fade. Neither one of these areas will load at all. I have left my pc running for more than 1 hour and each time the area will load. My pc is not frozen at the time but I cannot get to my desktop or the Task Manager while it is trying to load. So now I am now stuck at this point in the game. DA has run flawlessly up to this point, no lag etc. I have played DA for 30 hours in total. I have downloaded the patch 1.02a but an error occurs and the install fails. Anyone else have an issue similar to mine. Anyone have a possible solution for me. Thanks

Although the missing information may have no affect on the gradually lengthening loading operations, nevertheless, omitting the singkle most important component in a gaming PC is plain silly.

I beat the game even with the severe load problems / lag I was having. The last battle was incredibly painful to play. It took me well over an hour to complete due to the lag. Even saving / loading didn't help. Most of the time I could save / load and the problem would go away for 15 minutes or so.

Too bad, great game with a major problem for some people. Glad they are looking to fix it though. I want to play through again - this time with no technical issues. :)
