in other words: somebody wrote unexplainable crap, that needed to be claridfied later.
imo, the comment was a side blow to the fanbase.

I'm at peace with the breath scene now that Shepard got that tatoo. Now I know he will be ok under the rubble

Most of the LIs in the Citadel DLC make some allusion to finding Shepard no matter what, after the war.
Jack's is the most explicit in this because she says "if you're ever buried beneath the rubble at the ass-end of this war..."
Seems like BioWare's mea culpa - they don't want to add to the breath scene, but they've added these little things as an assurance to players that everything will work out if they want it to.
Still a cop-out, but it reads like a peace offering.

Oh okay, now it all makes sense. SWEET! It's just like how the Leviathan dlc made the ending okay. I love this new retroactive foreshadowing technique BioWare are using. It's really artistic and original! And it just, works!

really though they should never have put it in because then we got indoctrination theory because of it.
in reality we can assume shepard dies in every choice, the guy was bleeding out as it was and then had the destroy reactor blow up in his face basically.
I think it was there intention to have shepard ultimately make the sacrifice of his own life for the galaxy

I know right! Most other companies would try to sell us side stories that are completely irrelevant for unreasonable amounts of money. But not BioWare, all their dlc's are definitely worth the price of admission and they pertain strictly to the overarching plot allow the game to feel much more thorough and fleshed out with it all.

That's the other thing they do really well, you never have to turn to comics or books to learn valuable information in the plot, it's all very detailed in-game, leaving the books to cover the very minor of details.

I don't see it as ambiguous or open ended, I think it's pretty obvious... Shepard lives.
Does it suck we don't get to actually see him riding into the sunset? You bet, but I doubt they put it in there just ti show you his last breath.
+1 especially because low EMS destroy doesn't get the scene.

Yea I know, because he has those tribal stats and huge lats. And plus, what cool guy doesn't beat up on their commanding officer while getting to know you?

A short Shepard scene would have been great.
It doesn't even have to effect Bioware's view on the ending.(choices, catalyst, ect.)
This is what i don't understand about Bioware, make a entire EC but don't care about the Shepard lives part.
He lives. I bought ME3guide before EC.
It clearly says Shepard survives not a last breath before he dies.
Bioware could make alot of fans happy with just a small scene of what happens to Shepard.
Something short, yet very well done like the final scene of the Citadel dlc would be great.
No need for babies and stuff like that, these are actually things that are acceptable(perhaps should be, can't keep every one happy with too much details/cheese) as head-canon.

I know that some people argue Shepard never left Earth after beam, etc, etc. It does stretch imagine that you could get up from that and walk about after all. But if he/she somehow did survive and was in that rubble, it's just really weird that none of the released DLC's expand on it. A military funeral for the greatest hero of Earth.

Yes, I bought this as well. and on pg 323 it states:
At 4,000 Readiness Rating, if you choose to destroy the Reapers and "saved" Anderson, Shepard lives.
At 5,000 Readiness Rating, if you choose to destroy the Reapers and did not "save" Anderson, Shepard lives.
Note that saving Anderson is in quotes because you can't save him, but it doesn't say Shepard "lives". lol, because the "Reapers" don't exist do they.
