A mini rant from me. Its a shame Bioware that you didnt include one more squadmate for ME, a batarian one. it would have been an excellent addition.

- to give us a squaddie of a species that has mostly been reduced to whipping boys.
- to have conflict with the many Shepards whose backgrounds are tied to the batarians one way or another
- to give new insights into batarian culture and government and their future

Not to mention him or her being in the party.

Ah the things that could have been, Im a little dissapointed.

About squad mate from "species that has mostly been reduced to whipping boys" - you got Javik that is the only one from he's specie ;]

Other than that, i would love to see batarian in team. But thats not gonna happen, not in this game at least. Imagine romance option with him... :D

My thoughts exactly. I always pictured a batarian in there.

A Batarian squadmate in ME3 would have been interesting.

It could have made some really fun dialogue and character development with a Shepard who took part in the events of Arrival, and who had either fought at Elysium or Torfan, or who lost family members on Mindoir. Having two characters who would otherwise be enemies eventually coming to develop a mutual respect for each other as the game progressed, if not friendship, could have been great.

It would have also showed another side of the Batarians. In order for that however, it would have had to have been someone other than Balak. While Balak gets mentioned often in any discussion of whether there should have been a Batarian squadmate, I think he would have been a bad choice simply because he is the stereotypical Batarian. Rather than a terrorist, a Batarian squadmate would have to be more of the 'honorable enemy' template. He should be someone who fought against the Alliance during the Blitz because it was was duty, and because he thought humanity was occupying territory that rightfully belonged to the Batarians, not because he is a racist who hates all humans or a terrorist who supports murdering innocent civilians.

None of the above is intended as criticism for Bioware not including a Batarian squadmate by the way. I love the squadmates we did get, and can't complain. I just think it could have been interesting if Bioware did include one because of Shepard's history with the Batarians.

ME2 forced the player to recruit lots oc characters Shepard would never work with (terrorists that killed his squad, assassins, unstable biotics that pose a danger to the ship, religious fanatics). If you are feeling nostalgic go play ME2 and be glad they didn't force you to do the same in ME3

Please. And are you really going with the crowd "yeah theyre all terrorist and pirates, each and every one of them!"?

A batarian with a want for vengeance against the reapers works. War makes strange bedfellows.

Besides speaking of unhinged squaddies we already have a racist and social darwinistic prothean on our squad that hates synthetics. Even if the batarian is a more renegadish type, if Javik fitted in so would he or she.

Well put, along with a more refined ending, sidemissions and last mission I tought it was one of the most glaring wasted potentials in the game.

A Batarian squadmate wouldn't have to be a terrorist.

That would be main appeal of having a Batarian squadmate, that he (or she) would show another face of the Batarians, in the same way that Legion showed another side of the Geth. There are a lot of backgrounds a Batarian squadmate could have fallen into besides terrorist or slaver.

I liked Bray on Omega. Someone like him would have made a great squadmate - a bit dark and cynical, but professional and loyal, experienced and a good fighter.

Vorcha squadmates would just have been silly. Fun, but silly. An elcor or hanar... now *that* would have been interesting. If slightly tricky for the programmers.

You'll just have to wait til the next game.

I'd bet the bank that we'll be getting a Batarian squaddie after how much feedback they've heard on the subject in particular.

I too would have liked Bray. To quote someone else back when Omega came out.

He should have been the new perm squadmate at the end of it.

"You always get these crap details Bray"

"You give dental?"

"Yeah. Why?"

"Looks like I've got myself a new employer then."

Anyway, there's only one way to make up for it Bioware. ME4's main character that you play as needs to be a Batarian... Or at least give us a choice in what species we play as like Dragon Age Origins and make Batarian an option (for the Batarian haters).

Well at least now that we've seen Blasto do it we know Hanar can actually hold guns. Not sure how they would pull the triggers though......

Cerberus only killed Shepard's squad in 1/3 origins, Thane's religious fanaticism doesn't jeopardize anything, as Drell religions don't seem to have the same exclusionary mindsets that human religions do, and employing master assassins seems like a wise move when fighting dangerous enemies that might need to be assassinated.

The only case in which there might be a grain of truth to your argument is Jack, and even then, she's only violently unstable when antagonized, which Shepard isn't forced to do.

So basically, your claim is complete garbage for everyone except xenophobic Paragon Sole Survivor Shepards with a bad attitude, and I don't think there are too many people whose Shepards fit that exact bill.

Chances are high that they planed a DLC character to put in that room or to have alternating temporary squad mates in there depending on what story arc you're just playing (like Wrex for Tuchanka, Miranda for Sanctuary and so on) and ran out of time.
What ever it was, it's a pity they didn't do it.

wrong.

the answer is KROGAN.

how do you make a mass effect game, and not include a krogan in the squad. and that wasnt a question, it was a statement.

only bioware would be so foolish.

If they had to make a choice between a krogan and a batarian, i would have preferred they include a batarian, since krogans already got their spotlight. A third krogan male(and it would have been male) would have been pushing it. The krogan, turians and asari are the only two alien species that got multiple squadmates during the story. For whats ists worth, i think there were too many humans. Total of 7. Five would have been sufficient.

I think it would have been funny to see a batarian in the life support room, on a human ship. Damn all those doubts lingering in...

no way, bro. in what universe is not having a krogan in your three man squad a good idea? after tali, garrus and liara, a krogan should have been next on that list. playing mass effect without a krogan squadmate feels stupid.

certainly after arrival i had thought wed be getting a batarian squadmate, sortof a good guy defector, that serves as sortof a link to the batarians after we destroyed there whole damn homeworld. would have been cool then. but ofcorse bioware are a bunch of bone heads and we just got a trilogy thats filled with standalone games. are there even batarians in ME3??? other then the one from ME1, balak i think?

i definately agree there were too many humans especially in ME2. ME1 had the best squad selection adn each squad member served their roll and even their class fit their species.

Yeah, it would have been great to have a Batarian on your squad, especially after Arrival...

I agree 100%. I thought it would be a sure bet we got a Batarian squadmate in ME3...but nope.
