Over the past few months I re-played through ME1, ME2, and then finally started ME3 for the first time.  I'm still not done with it yet, but I already know I'm going to want to do this all again just because there are so many things I want to do differently.

One thing that I'm not clear on is how new game plus works for ME1.  What I'd ultimately like to accomplish is to be able to play a new class (this last play through was on a Soldier, and now I want to play a Vanguard) and also have access to the Spectre X weapons.  I believe I would need to import a level 50 Shepard with the "Rich" achievment, but I'm not sure about a couple of things.

1.  Can I import my level 50 Soldier and change the class?  I would rather not have to play through ME1 twice just to get there on a new class.

2.  If no to #1 and I manage to find a level 50 Vanguard saved game online, can I change the character's appearance?

3.  Does Paragon/Renegade carry over to NG+?

4.  Is there a way to "cheat" the achievment/bonus power system in ME1on the PC so I can pick whatever bonus power I want?

I'm really hoping my only option to get what I want isn't going to be to play the game entirely from a level 1 Vanguard, reach 50, unlock "Rich," then start again, especially considering that I mostly want to play a Vanguard for how the class works in ME2 and ME3 (e.g. Charge/Nova).

1. No, you can't change the class.

2. Not 100% sure, but I believe no.

3. No, your Paragon/Renegade values will be reset. But your experience points will not reset, so you'll have a hard time going the opposite route. Let's say you were Paragon and have maxed out the "Charm" talent. If you want to go the Renegade route in the NG+, you'll have no points in Intimidate, and you'll probably want to spend the points earned from level 50 to 60 on different talents.

4. Don't know.

You said you want to play as a Vanguard because of Charge in ME2/3: you can change the class if you import your ME1 save into ME2, so you could play as a different class in ME1 and then switch to Vanguard in ME2. Although be warned, the Gods of Lore and Continuity will rain down showers of flaming Krogan testicles (and sautéed Salarian livers, depending on availability) upon you if you do that. ;)

If I remember correctly, you cannot change your class or appearance for a ME1 new game plus. You can change both at the beginning of ME2, tho. Paragon/Renegade, armor, weapons, and money carry over. I'm pretty sure the bonus power carries over as well, and cannot be changed. Your best option may actually be to play a soldier again through ME1, and then change your class and appearance at the beginning of ME2.

You do not need NG+ for Spectre X gear as, like all the other levelled loot, it becomes available when you hit level 50. Just make a new career and use the console to add XP. Or just use the console to add the gear.

You can also add whatever bonus powers you want subject to user interface limitations (that is to say, adding too many bonus powers will screw up the interface).

Well, the idea is to be able to play with the Spectre X gear under normal, fair conditions.  A level 50 with with Spectre X gear would blow through a game that is anticipating the character to start at level 1.

But you have given me an idea.  I can make a new character, make it the class I want and make it look the way I want, and use the console to make it level 50 and then use that save as the import, right?

Well, I just did some testing and it appears there are some restrictions for importing a character.  I assume the character actually has to beat the game to be available for import, so I can't just bump one up to 50 and then import that.

However, it appears as if the game scales to your level regardless, so just making a new character and bumping it up to level 50 should play exactly the same as starting a new game with an imported level 50 character.  I assume I can change a flag on the ME2 save after I import this to give me the benefits of importing a NG+ character as well.

You MAY NOT add bonus powers for the PC by any method beyond unlocking in-game - they are stored in your profile, not in your save files.
