To start, my pi$$-poor effort (following on from Destroy):
COMMANDER SHEPARD: by the time he awoke in the intensive care section of a London hospital, much of the initial fallout from the Battle of Earth was done; the shell-shocked survivors of the Reaper invasion had regrouped and were already beginning the long process of rebuilding what they had lost. Learning that he had been found by a team combing the partially-ruined Citadel for survivors, Shepard insisted on a full debriefing despite his extensive injuries, and his insight was sought by every faction as they decided how to proceed next.
By the time the Normandy finally made the return journey to Earth, Shepard had already declined offers both to represent humanity on the newly reorganised Council, and to take command of the surviving Spectres. As the first few mass relays were brought online, the presence of Shepard and the Normandy brought comfort to many of the shattered homeworlds.
Any other man may have considered retirement after his accomplishments, but Shepard was not just any man. He and his crew were to have many other adventures, though none were as galaxy-shattering as what became known as the Reaper War...
LIARA T'SONI: after an emotional reunion with her paramour Shepard, T'Soni added her expertise in ancient artifacts to the teams dissecting the vast Reaper corpses that scattered the Sol system. The knowledge gained was instrumental in restoring the galaxy's mass effect technology; first communications, and then the relays. And her network of contacts as the Shadow Broker, a role she eventually retired, was extremely helpful as the galaxy slowly reconnected over the next few painful years. She would also aid in the restoration of her homeworld, but inevitably found her true place at Shepard's side aboard the Normandy.
TALI'ZORAH VAS NORMANDY: reuniting with the then-stranded flotilla around Earth, the young quarian was at the forefront of her race's subsequent rebuilding efforts. Far from being mistrusted by the other races, after their efforts helping to repair the mass relays, the Citadel and much of Earth's infrastructure (and that of the other homeworlds as the relay network was slowly reconnected) left the quarians much in demand. Still, eventually Tali'Zorah would finally set foot on Rannoch once more, where she found the planetside quarians hard at work attempting to restore the geth race just as it was, using copies of their mental engrams stored on vast databases.
GARRUS VAKARIAN: the turian would eventually revisit his homeworld, the presence of the great war hero lightening the spirits of his battered people. In the immediate aftermath of the Reaper War, though, Vakarian found his old training coming to the fore as he aided the people of Earth and their allies in forging a new law-enforcement and peacekeeping force that would become the template for the post-war galactic society. "C-SEC as it should always have been" was the former officer's verdict.
MIRANDA LAWSON: the galaxy was left with a lasting hatred of Cerberus, although Lawson's securing of vital resources and scientific personnel in the aftermath of the Battle for Earth did much to ease the animosity felt towards her personally. Still, it was a surprise to everyone, including Lawson herself, when she found herself representing humanity on the newly reorganised Council. The recommendation of Commander Shepard held that much weight...
ASHLEY WILLIAMS: the wake of the Reaper War left the galaxy raw and exposed; as the relay network was slowly, painfully reconnected, already suffering systems were targeted both by ruthless pirates and expansionist landgrabs by races such as the Batarians. Spectre Williams was at the forefront of the fight back, pushing back the raiders with her own team, and eventually helping to train a whole new generation of Spectres.
JACK: after bringing almost her entire class of biotic students through the Reaper War alive, the former Prisoner Zero helped to form a new Grissom Academy dedicated to instructing students from every world in the use of their powers. She would become legendary both for the unprecedented pass rate among her classes, and for the number of disciplinary reports filed by her fellow teachers.
URDNOT WREX: eventually returning to Tuchanka after helping with the efforts around Earth, Wrex and his mate Eve helped to forge a new Krogan society. In the chaos following the Reaper War, krogan mercenaries would be in more demand than ever, but Wrex and Eve also made sure that their society had a future fit for their children. While Eve accomplished much by diplomatic words, Wrex was known to resort to a headbutt or two in a pinch...
JACOB TAYLOR: eventually founding a private security company, Taylor was to find that his partner Dr. Cole had very firm views about his responsiblities, and as such the only 'prize' he would be chasing in the future would be their family stability. To his great surprise, he found that both marriage and fatherhood suited him extremely well.
GRUNT: of all the krogan mercenary squads active in the gaalxy after the rebuilding of the first few relay connections, the one led by the 'perfect krogan' was most in demand. Returning to Tuchanka between commissions, the young warrior was surprised to find his genetic lineage HIGHLY in demand among the now-fertile krogan females...
KASUMI GOTO: the master thief vanished amidst the rebuilding effort on Earth. Some said that she had recovered a lifetime's worth of ill-gotten gains from their hiding places and retired, although the retirement of the last Shadow Broker left a void that, others maintained, was not vacant for long...
SAMARA: following the reopening of the relay network, the most prominent of the asari justicars vanished from public view following a brief meeting with Commander Shepard and select members of his crew. Rumours eventually surfaced of her presence at a remote monastery, but these were never substantiated, not could anyone explain why Samara would wish to take up residence in such a place...
ZAEED MASSANI: the hard-bitten mercenary was briefly in high demand by the leaders of the various restructuring military forces after the war, although his plain-speaking and abrasive attitude eventually brought this to an abrupt halt. Massani was last seen happily retired on a tropical but very private island, although many wondered how long he would tolerate the boredom of peace...
JAMES VEGA: although offered a place among the Spectres for his role in the Reaper War, Vega declined in order to stay with the Alliance. The decimated human forces were in need of officer material, and he would become well-known as one of the foremost commanders in the post-war era.
JAVIK: initially distracted by the regrouping and rebuilding efforts, Javik was persuaded by Shepard, Liara and his other friends to record the most important memories of his people, before joining them on their tour of the rebuilding homeworlds. At last, though, he said a final farewell to the crewmates who had become closer than he could ever have imagined, and travelled to what had once upon a time been his homeworld. And there, the galaxy's last remaining Prothean died.
CAPTAIN BAILEY: when the first relay to be brought to basic operation, the Earth relay, was first reactivated, the exhausted scientists responsible for the breakthrough were astonished to find a small fleet of ships ready to travel through. It was to transpire that Bailey, alerted to the impending Reaper takeover of the Citadel, had managed to organise an emergency evacuation. While many lives were lost, the thousands saved by Bailey's actions included two of the Council members, a bartender who turned out to be an asari matriarch, a resourceful young drell and a doctor from one of the Citadel's medical clinics. Bailey himself was 'enthusiastically' greeted on his return to Earth by what was apparently his estranged wife, shortly before he informed the authorities of his well-earned retirement.
JEFF 'JOKER' MOREAU: the helmsman of the Normandy, despite struggling with depression following the destruction of the Reapers, continued to travel with Shepard on his initial tour of the homeworlds following the reconnection of the first relays. It was above Rannoch that, investigating an anomalously large data surge in the Normandy's cockpit systems, Moreau discovered a repeating binary sequence in the ship's code that, once converted into the roman alphabet, consisted of one three-letter name.
By the time Commander Shepard was alerted, Moreau was gone, along with the Normandy's shuttle, several yottabytes of data from the ship's systems, and a deactivated combat droid body. The only explanation was a note reading simply; 'Gone to see a Quarian about a repair job.'...
