As said before, Shepard wakes up from a coma and finds out that everything in the trilogy, even the stupid ending was nothing more than a coma dream. She is actually a mercenary company boss, and CAT 6 Alliance vet.

In all seriousness, this is pretty good and this has "high potential for tears". But my canon Shep is with Miri, but the rest I like.

The Crucible hooked itself up to the Citadel as a power sorce and fired a big arse laser that STUNNED the Reapers and we took them out. DEFAULT.

None of this Starchild ****, none of this red, green, blue ending.

After all the **** the Reapers put me through in these past three games I just want them dead and gone.

Shepard and Anderson are found injured but alive, a lot of the Citadel citizens were also lucky enough to survive as well. Damage to the Universe is extensive, but we can and WILL rebuild, even better thanks to the tech supplied by the dead Reapers.

Shepard throws a big party on his new apartment on the Citadel, everyone gets drunk and they wake up the next morning next to his/her LI/

Shepard 'dies' when taking control of the Reapers.

Thanks to Liara and her mind meld thingy with Shepard, she has Shepard's memories and Javik's mind shards.

Somewhere in the universe a clone Shepard awakens in a medical center with no idea who or what they are. Doctors believing said clone is someone who has simply had an accident and lost all memories help set her off on a journey to find out who she is.

Kaidan having heard reports of 'Shepard' being seen, starts looking for her. Believing it is likely a clone after the one on Citadel.

Eventually Kaidan and clone Shepard cross paths some months later, with the help of Reaper Shep, Liara's mind meld and Javik's memory shards, Clone Shep is given all of Shepards memories so that they can have a living, breathing, walking, talking Shepard around again who reunites with Normandy Crew and LI.

[Edit] Works also with Synthasis minus the help from Reaper Shep.
         Also works for Destroy however change the waking Shepard in the hospital to real Shep who has been badly injured with no memories.

My head-canon the fanfics I've written-- the first one's 90 pages (link's in my sig) and the sequel is 250. But long story short:

Kaidan, Vega and EDI were the only squadmates evacuated (by Cortez, I wrote this pre-EC) to the ship after Harbinger struck, the rest were scattered around London and left behind. Post-Synthesis, Kaidan agonizes over losing (Hadrian) Shepard, and starts to feel haunted by the traces Shepard left behind. Over the following months, on the planet where they're marooned and back at Earth, there's no green glowy veins yet but eventually people discover that whatever Shepard did on the Citadel to drive the Reapers away also seeded everyone with a cybernetic empathic ability that's gradually evolving towards letting people share their thoughts and feelings on a level comparable to geth consensus. No stripping of individuality, but people begin wirelessly "baring their souls" to each other. Compassion flourishes, harming others becomes profoundly distasteful to everyone who isn't a psychopath, so the survivors find peace between people comes unnaturally easily. And synthetics are privy to the same, so they learn to be good people alongside organics, though no one knows that that was actually the main purpose of the Crucible Event and why the Reapers left, rather than a 'side effect.'

With that new paradigm uniting everyone, the Earth-bound survivors (including millions of geth) pool their resources and efforts to survive and thrive. They develop a new form of propulsion based on studying the defunct mass relay, while at the Mars Archive Liara and Javik stumble upon cryptic references to a secret Prothean research base where important citizens of the empire could be restored to life, just as they were. So when the first new ship departs Earth to recover the Normandy and her crew, the old squad tags along to see if Kaidan wants to lead a search for the slim hope of resurrecting Shepard.

Since you rarely get something for nothing, there are complications and conflict-- made harder by the fact that nobody feels right resolving their differences with brute force anymore. Kaidan ends up with his own "big decision" to make and his own consequences to bear. But I don't want to spoil it (any more than the impending publication of a sequel already does) for anyone I might have enticed to read it

Adding to my previous post... Although I don't have a lot of finite headcanon, there is one idea I'm really liking right now.

Shepard is found alive, but severely injured. In the months she is stuck in some hospital recuperating, Garrus keeps himself busy by heading up C-Sec's search and rescue task force. He and his team comb the partially-destroyed Citadel for survivors, where they find a group of orphans hiding in the ducts of one of the wards, alive but barely holding on, being cared for by a teenage quarian who became stuck on the Citadel during her pilgrimage. After convincing the children that the threat is gone and helping them get necessary medical attention, with nowhere to go and no family to claim them, Garrus sets them up in a plush three-bedroom apartment that he happens to know is currently vacant. When Shepard finds out, she quips that this is not exactly what she had in mind when she mentioned adoption.

My headcanon has changed a bit over time, but it generally goes like this.

Several months (maybe even a year or two) after the war. Things are slowly being rebuilt. No one knows what exactly became of Shepard and her body was never recovered. 
Garrus is sitting at a bar (haven't really decided where) in the corner shaking his head at all the elaborate tales people have on how the survived the war.

A hooded figure sits next to him at the bar and says: "Not impressed?"
Garrus: "No"

Garrus briefly mentions some of things he did with Shepard to save the galaxy.

Hooded figure: "Oh so you were with Shepard? I'm impressed. What was she like?"

Garrus: "Smart. Sexy. A wicked shot. The galaxy is an empty lonely place without her."

Hooded figure: "I see."

Garrus: "Yea, so what brings you here?"

Hooded figure: "Well a turian bad boy with reach and a bit of flexibility once told me to meet him at the bar."

Garrus looks over shocked and confused "Shep..."

"Shhhh. Come with me." The two walk out of the bar together and hop into a shuttle.

I haven't really decided how she would survive Synthesis, but in my head she survives and finds Garrus.

The Reapers helped to rebuild the Mass Relays and the worlds they destroyed during the war, before traveling back through the Citadel relay in to dark space.

Miranda joined Primarch Victus, Major Kirrahe, Sha'ira, Eve and Shal'Raan in the formation of a new Citadel Council after the original was killed during the Reaper attack.

Garrus was offered the role of Primarch, which he honorably passes up to become a Specter for the Council. He and Tali live together on Rannoch, when not out saving the Galaxy.

Liara resumed her role as the infamous Shadow Broker, having taken control of Cronos station after Cerberus was kicked out. The station has since been moved to an unknown location in the Galaxy, although sources say it rests in orbit around Ilos.

Ashley Williams became Captain of the SR2 with James Vega as her second in command. To date, she remains the only living Human Specter. 

EDI and Joker continued to helm the SR2, however reports suggest that they are working closely with engineers Adams, Daniels and Donnelly with the Alliance in creating a fleet of SR2s and an SR3 prototype.

Aria T'Loak returned to her throne on Omega, using the station for refit and repair of the ships damaged during the Reaper war. Later she hired Zaeed Massani as her personal bodyguard and leader to her merc army.

Wrex became the governor of Tuchunka, his wife serving on the council. Rebuilding the Planet's cities was a long and painful process, but is now considered one of the top tourist destinations in the Galaxy for it's awe inspiring beauty.  

Jack restarted the Grisson Academy under the new name 'The Shepard Academy' with Kahlee Sanders. Her students are well known for their high pass rates and bouts of bad language. 

Jacob settled down in Rio with Brynen and their four children. He works as head of security for Dr Mrs Taylor's off-shore energy project. 

Kasumi Goto traveled to Bekenstein, recovering Lady Liberty's head from Hock's vault deep beneath the scorched planet. She took the head back to New York on Earth, and had it placed back on the original statue, her contribution to rebuilding her homeworld.

Samara returned to Thessia, one of the last surviving Justicars. After a cure was found that altered the genetic coding of Ardat-Yakshi, she resided with her daughter on her home planet., recruiting more Asari in to the Justicar code.

Grunt was promoted within the Krogan military and now leads an entire battalion of soldiers. All of his children share his blue eyes and smooth head.    

The Geth turned down a role on the council, instead allowing the Quarian councilor to speak for them on their behalf. Although being welcome across the Galaxy, they not often seen beyond Quarian space.
