Ending:
Richy Shepard wasn't a boob...he shot the tube. (High-EMS)
Immediate After-Effect:
Shepard survived the explosion. And the rubble (for me) was at the Citadel Control Room. Once the Reapers were destroyed, Jack and her band of biotics headed straight for the Conduit beam which was being heavily guarded by Major Coates. After a heated exchange with the Major, she forced her way past the guards and barricades (Purgatory Station Style) and entered the Conduit Beam, flying out the other end in the Keeper tunnels.
She ran through the tunnels and up the ramp to the Citadel control room to find TIM (minus 1 half a skull and brain) and Anderson, who hadn't actually died. After a short exchange with the Admiral, Jack found out that Shepard had crawled to the control panel, and was elevated. She stood in front of the control panel, desperately looking for a way to go up. After a few minutes, and no activity, she fell to her knees crying. She then curled into a foetal position crying for her seemingly lost love. Suddenly however, a white light illuminated the platform, and she was elevated...
As the platform reached it's destination at the lair of The Intelligence. She carefully stood up, unsure as to where she was. Unsure if she was dreaming. She took a few tentative steps forward when she looked up and saw the Crucible in all its glory, now inactive after its galaxy shaking operation.
Jack looked all around, as she saw pieces of Reapers and all races’ starships floating in orbit around Earth she moved forward, towards the large open chamber which lead into 3 distinct areas. To the left she saw what looked like an interface just about large enough for any of the council races to step into, straight on she saw a massive chasm, and to the right she saw destruction, rubble and a couple of small fires.
And then she just knew.
Jack ran to the rubble, screaming for Shepard at the top of her voice, digging through the chunks of metal, plastic and glass from the explosion that had occurred a couple of hours ago. When she heard it. “huhhhhhh” a deep intake of breath, she knew it must be him. She ran over the rubble to where the noise came from, and saw Shepard along with his tattoo, laying among the rubble. Badly wounded, bleeding and burnt. She applied medi-gel to his wounds and lifted him up. She tried getting on her comm for backup, to let anyone know she needed help, to let anyone know that Shepard was alive…but nobody answered. The area was flooded with energy still from the Crucible’s activation, and her comm unit was being blocked. She laid Shepard down, and formed a biotic bubble around him, with it she was able to move him safely to the platform where they descended. Upon reaching the lower platform, there were more people there now, Major Coates included.
All of the soldiers there stood in shock as they saw the Commander’s body, alive – just. Coates sent a message to Admiral Hackett – Shepard is alive.
The People After Crucible Activation:Shepard made a full recovery, and the superficial burns and scars were easily healed using cutting edge technology garnered from the Normandy’s Med-Lab. The geth and Edi were not destroyed as was implied by The Intelligence, since they may have been based on Reaper Code, they had altered it for their own ends – severing the link to Reaper tech.
The Mass Relays were rebuilt, by scientists reverse engineering the cores of the Reapers to work out how the massive mass effect engines are built on mass relays. The different races return to their home systems, and the Citadel is returned to it’s rightful place in the Serpent Nebula.
Shepard and the crew of the Normandy (Jack included) venture out to find any last pockets of Cerberus in the Galaxy, and wipe them out for their heinous crimes. Once this is done, Shepard and Jack (semi-)retire from active service in order to start a family. They raise 3 kids – Jacqueline, Mordin and Thane. Shepard retains his Spectre status, but is never sent on missions by the Council, who honour his semi-retirement. Shepard and Jack occasionally step back into their gear, usually if rumours of Cerberus cells being found are circulating.
Urdnot Wrex presides over the Golden Age of Krogan, and forms a dynasty of rulers that will follow his doctrine. He returns to Tuchanka where the main restoration effort for the Krogan begins, but is often a visitor on the Citadel to visit his friend and brother in arms, Shepard.
Garrus Vakarian does exactly what he wanted to do – retires and lives off the vids. He becomes a chat-show regular, but maintains close ties within the Turian Hierarchy, having the ear of Primarch Victus. He maintains a close relationship with Shepard, and is god-father to his children. It is heavily rumoured that he could be next in line to be Primarch of Palaven.
Liara T’Soni retires as the Shadow Broker, leaving it all in the capable hands of someone known only as Agent 3. Liara writes her book “Walking With a Prothean” with Javik, and moves to Earth to study human history. She does not maintain a close relationship with Shepard, heartbroken that he never returned her undying love.
Kaiden Alenko is eventually promoted to Captain, and becomes the Normandy’s CO. He becomes the Council’s top Spectre Agent, and is instrumental in operations on rogue Krogan groups and Batarian terror cells. He grows closer to Steve Cortez and is awarded the Star of Terra for his efforts in stopping a rogue ex-Cerberus cell from setting off nuclear warheads on Lunar.
Tali’Zorah vas Normandy maintains her name, as the city on Rannoch in which she lives is called Normandy in honour of the ship’s role in reclaiming the homeworld. She turns down a career in the military and politics to pursue a career in architecture – she studies with a select group of quarians on Thessia. After helping to design the first few new cities on Rannoch, she moves to the Citadel to teach the subject - maintaining a close relationship with Shepard and Garrus in particular.
James Vega becomes the first N7 who did not attend or complete the program in light of his actions with Commander Shepard aboard the Normandy. He takes a career break from the military to join Garrus on the chat-show ring, but eventually returns to the Alliance, confessing that he’ll be a soldier until the day he dies. He is instrumental in overseeing military operations on Horizon after the Sanctuary Incident.
Javik writes the book with Liara, “Walking With a Prothean”, and moves to Eden Prime, where he swears he will watch over the colonists there “as they watched over me”. He is revered as a hero on Eden Prime, despite him being the reason Cerberus invaded, and is left to live his reclusive life.
Joker remains the Normandy’s pilot, and stays with Edi. When he is forced into early retirement due to his Vrolik Syndrome, he manages to leave with Edi, who by that point had been replaced by newer cyber warfare suites. Joker and Edi adopt a child on Tiptree, and Edi learns more about being human from her own daughter than anybody else.
Grunt stays in charge of Aralakh company, which becomes the first new company of a United Council Army, and is the blue print for other races to follow suit (the Alliance company is called Sol Company, the Turians is called Trebia Company etc). Eventually, Grunt becomes Wrex’s main BattleMaster, and although is wanted as a mating partner is sterile due to his artificial creation – even with the genophage cured. He is a constant reminder to his people of the blight they went through for too long, and is held with honour and esteem among the Krogan people.
Miranda starts working at the Grissom Academy where she is a top instructor under Kahlee Sanders stewardship. She teaches biotics, tech and leadership. Oriana moves to the Citadel, where she tries to just be normal.
Zaeed retires to Vimire, where he spends his days hunting the local wildlife, living off the land and living with his 7 asari brides. Of course.
Jacob fades into obscurity.
Kasumi continues to be the best thief in the galaxy and continues to evade the authorities despite her assistance with the Crucible project. She is never seen or heard from again by the Normandy crew.
Samara returns to Lesuss with her daughter Falere and they rebuild the Ardat-Yakshi Monestary. Samara occasionally visists Virmire for undisclosed reasons.
Dr Chakwas retires from active service along with Engineer Adams. They retire to Earth, where they help out their local community rebuild after the Reaper War. They open an orphanage, and teach them skills in engineering and medicine. The orphanage receives an Alliance and later a Council grant, due to the high standard of engineers and medics that enlist from the orphanage.
Admiral Anderson doesn’t survive long, dying soon after returning to Earth from the wounds he received at the hands of Harbingers attack and TIM. He is given a Council State Funeral, attended by dignitaries from all council races and beyond (even the Vorcha and Batarians send representatives). Anderson’s funeral is Shepard’s first public appearance since the Crucible was activated.
Admiral Hackett is given command of the Council Fleets. He leads the Fleets in escorting the Citadel back to the Serpent Nebula. After a few years of active service, and when the last of the Mass Relays are rebuilt, Hackett steps down and retires to Edmonton, Canada.
Aria continues to rule Omega, and is the defacto leader of the Terminus Systems. She petitions for a seat on the New Council.
Steve Cortez stays with the Normandy, getting closer to its new CO Captain Alenko…
Samantha Traynor moves to the Destiny Ascension, where she met and fell in love with one of the asari bridge navigators. They have 2 little blue children.
Diana Allers continued to work on “BattleSpace” interviewing the Normandy Crew about their heroics during the Reaper War and before hand. After the Reaper War she went back to Bekenstein, where she reported on the devastation that the Reaper brought to the planet.
The Races After Crucible Activation:Humanity has secured its place forever in the galactic community, before the Reaper War, humans were looked at still as growing too fast too soon. But because of the Reaper War, they earned their stripes. Humanity takes a leading role in shaping new interstellar government, chairing the first New Council, with representatives from every spacefaring race in the galaxy.
The Turians suffered heavy losses due to the Reaper occupation of Turian worlds included Palaven. Despite this, they still maintain the largest military in Council space. Turians keep their position as the main protectors of the Citadel.
The Asari government, despite their eventual assistance in the Reaper War are heavily criticised after the war due to withholding the Prothean Archive data along with their reluctance to take part until they were dragged in by the Reapers. The asari cede several worlds to the krogan as a part of their punishment, along with not having the power to veto in the New Council for 50 years and are also tasked with “civilising” the vorcha, in order for them to enter the galactic community in a more peaceful role.
The Krogan are heralded heroes for their efforts in the Reaper War, throwing themselves in as soon as they possibly could – despite the genophage having blighted them for so many hundreds of years. They are handed several asari worlds to expand into, and given a seat on the New Council. The Krogan statue in the Presidium has extra figures added to it – Aralakh company celebrating (ala Grunt’s flashback).
The Salarians are also derided for their reluctance to enter the war, not as much as the asari, but are stripped of their right to veto New Council decisions for 20 years. The actions of the STG, in particular Major Kirrahe helped to prevent too many sanctions against the Salarian people.
The Quarians rebuild Rannoch with the help of the geth, and start to expand into their old quarian colonies. Haestrom is avoided though. The quarians and geth are each granted seats on the New Council. As the geth develop, they become more individual, but they still govern themselves by consensus – allowing the quarians a vote in their own matters. Likewise, the quarians grant the geth votes in their internal matters.
The Batarians are given aid, and are heavily assisted in the rebuilding of their homeword by other Council races, including heavy assistance from the Alliance. They are granted an embassy on the Citadel, and are tipped to join the New Council soon.
The Volus and Elcor are both granted seats on the New Council, the affects on their races were not as devastating as that of the humans or turians, but were still awful. The volus help to kick-start the galactic economy, introducing new trade rules which limit red tape and bolster income. The elcor are instrumental in providing voluntary assistance to the civilising of the Vorcha.
The hanar and drell are given a single place on the New Council, the drell were offered a single seat alongside the hanar but refused. They do however hold an individual power of veto as well as the hanar.
The vorcha are welcomed into the galactic community, and are granted an embassy. They are helped along by the asari, but human and turian volunteers assist. The elcor are heavily instrumental in assisting the vorcha.
The yahg are still confined to Parnack, after a second Council envoy went to seek better contact. The yahg attacked on site. The krogan send ambassadors to Parnack to appeal to their warrior natures. The krogan ambassadors are killed after an Alamo-type battle. The Krogan demand blood for blood, and the New Council agrees unanimously that the yahg must be dealt with. However they are not invaded, the New Council maintains a small fleet in Parnaks orbit and disrupts any and all attempts by the yahg to become a spacefaring race. The yahg become more and more wise to the disruptions being made by the New Council, and it’s possible that despite these interruptions the yahg will take to space in Apollo/Sputnik type missions in the next 15 years. It is unknown how the Council will deal with them in a long term capacity.
The Raloi are welcomed back into the galactic community, and are assisted by the geth in improving their immune systems much in the same way they did with the quarians. They are seen as a very minor race, and are granted an embassy on the Citadel, but are unlikely to get a seat on the New Council anytime soon.
The Leviathans are sought out, but they do not wish to be a part of the galactic community – as before the Reaper invasion. They are left to live out their time in solitude…or are they?
(Sorry for the length!!!)
