The first time I beat ME 3, I was definitely dissapointed but certainly not to the extent that many other fans of the Mass Effect series were. It was more merely a feeling of meh that was lame rather than OMG how could you screw up like this?!! F *ck you Bioware! My main gripes intially were lack of true closure tht was promised (for obvious reasons that I should not have to go in detail over) and the fact that your choices did not matter at all.

However after reading the numerous complaints on this board, along with beatinng ME 3 several more times and replaying the first 2 games countless times more, Ive come to absolutely loathe the ending to the point I refuse to even do a trilogy run at this point. It simply boogles the mind how a companey known for its engrossing stories and great memorable characters could come up with an ending and antagonist so mind-numbingly stupid and insulting, even considering the rushed deadline they faced. And yes i very much doubt that IT was what there were going with.

I guess my point is even with the great reviews the current Citadel DLC is getting i simply cannot bring myself to even touch the game ever again, despite actually going back several more times after the EC was released. I simply do not have the stomache to sit through  the psudo-philosophical poppy drivel of  the Star-Jar Catalyst that completely invalidates the themes and and lore of the previous two games. It TRUELY is that atrociously and horrendously bad. Anyone else agree that the endings actually get far worse  with time rather than more barable?

It was only harder the other day because after completing the citadel dlc I felt more attached to everyone than ever. At least it gave me a chance to finally check out the destroy ending.

The more you think about it the worse it becomes you start to see gaping flaws in the narrative of the trilogy, and now with the Citadel DLC, well I'll just say it shines a light on how badly written the ending was. All I feel is disappointment when I think back on ME3.

It'll always ping my tender heart to think of it, but I believe I'm now capable - ONE FCUKING YEAR LATER - to grit my way through the Catalyst, choose Destroy, and headcanon what I need to make myself be able to, finally...finally!...replay it. "EDI/Geth are dead" my sweet a~s.

It's not WORSE for me, but it doesn't suck any LESS, either. Just sucks for different reasons now that I've thought more about it.

Having trouble picking up the game again myself, but MEHEM exists, and that helps.

Aye, they get worse the more they sink in, and the more you think about it.

Nah, it just stays the same: a flawed attempt at aping Asimov with ridiculous and contradictory logic.

I can agree. After I beat it the first time, there was a bit of shock. Sort of a "Wait, that's it?" feeling. I didn't outright hate it, I was just confused.

Once I had a chance to sit down and let it sink in, that's when the many issues I have with it became apparent.

If you are PC, get MEHEM, it does away with the core of the problem, The Catalyst.

I go back and forth. Sometimes I'm just like "damn, I love Mass Effect so much that I accept this ending for what it is", but recently, I've been thinking about doing a third and final trilogy playthorugh, and it gets to me that I can't have a completely different ending.

And to be clear, I don't want a different ending because I think this one is horrible, but I want more variety.

I don't mind the endings per se, but thinking about them does sting more since I've completed the Citadel DLC. The contrast between the happy, lighthearted fun of the DLC and the bleak, depressing final level that now awaits me... Perhaps I will just play until the assault on Cerberus in future playthroughs, start the Citadel DLC and regard that ending as my official in game ending.

Well luckily for me it was so bad it couldn't get any worse, so yay I guess?

Though after watching the final scenes and goodbyes in Citadel it definitely brought back everything I felt one year ago so that kind of sucked.

I came to terms with it months ago. Priority Earth is a bit weak, Starbrat still sucks, and I wish autodialogue didn't deny us the chance to stick it to his logic, but I'm comfortable with where things are left off.

It would be harder if I actually gave a damn about the Geth, but truthfully, half of the time they don't make it that far. I find them fascinating and consider them to be alive, but on account of their actions, their fate is well-earned.

I still love the characters and much of the trilogy, but yeah...I can't think of the game without thinking of the ending, which I consider to be very disappointing.

For me, I saw the Citadel DLC as what it was, the last hurrah for the Bioware team with the ME universe, at least the ME universe as we know it.

Alt timelines, prequels, new characters/plots notwithstanding, this new DLC was BW's swan song for the trilogy. As such, the tone was very much a somber and sweet ride into the sunset.

And how many of us are simply going to load up this DLC and skip playing through to the end? Better yet, how many of us are going to simply load the gamesave generated after beating the game?

One can almost make a case for this being a series of epilogues, if you self edit your headcanon slightly.

So yeah, the vanilla endings suck. The EC is palatable. I consider the various fanworks, fanfics, or even MEHEM, and I'm fine. In fact, MEHEM into the Citadel DLC would be my headcanon, if I hadn't already written my own ending.

I must say tho, I almost like the fact that the original crappy endings allowed me to continue saying goodbye to this series for so long. I'm still posting this message a year after release, after all...

It's gotten worse over time because I have to accept that this garbage is all we are getting, there will be no real Mass Effect 3. As far as I'm concerned, the Mass Effect series ended with Arrival, the reapers were coming through the relay when I blew it and it killed them all.

Yeah, same for me. At first (also knowing that the endings were not well received) I said... well it's not good, but the sh*tstorm maybe unjustified. Then later after thinkin about it, reading about it, and watching videos about it, it is just so appaerent how horrific it really is.

Well, it is not worse for me, but some things just don't get better with time. Citadel DLC was fun, but the leap in the mood from the DLC to the endings is going to be biblical. Still, while playing the DLC, I remembered again how much I liked the characters and the universe.

When at some point I am going to replay the series I'll probably go with MEHEM. Or maybe then I'll be okay selecting destroy and headcanon all of it.

I don't really want to bother getting worked up over the endings anymore, but the disappointment still remains.

I got used to it.

Then the Citadel DLC came out, I cried, and the endings became a lot harder to swallow. I mean, C'MON! That last part of the Citadel? What were they trying to do? Roll me up in a foetal position and kill me? xD
