People need to understand something about Ash

Defensive reflex maybe
I know that Kaidan was not my favorite character to start with, a remnant of Carth Onasi (who had his own issues to deal with) But by the end of ME1 he was a valuable character to me and definatly has one of the more interesting backstories. Between Ashley and Kaidan it made the Virmire decision that much harder to the point where I would delay Vrimire for as long as possible.
Virmire remains one of the most memorable points in the ME trilogy because of that, the impossible choice between two characters that both deserved to be rescued (the music makes it all the more heart-wrenching when the bomb goes off

More often it's the other way around, if you looked through this thread you would have seen more people putting down Ashley and praising Kaidan.
Every couple of days you would see a thread bashing Ashley not Kaidan, eventhough both have almost identical situations throughout the game.

Since she never survived passed Virmire for me, I don't know her character very well, but watching some of the youtube videos regarding her. Her tone is a bit more aggressive in compared to Kaidan. I could understand the dislike. I'm not saying she deserves the hate. I say I can understand it. At this point, both sides need to stop bringing one while talking about the other. It sounds like a broke record now.BornFree87 wrote...

Kaidan may have never survived passed Virmire for me but he and Ash were my fav squadmates in the original game and i took them both whenever i could.
Its not about 'both sides', most people who dislike Kaidan don't like Ashley either.
They just rather get rid of the boring guy then the annoying girl, yet Kaidan fans seem to often enter those discussions stating how much better he is and yet not getting the point that the people often insulting him dont like Ash either.

She's either a soldier or self-mistaken at this point.

but them both have the same character developments as the rest of them, the difference is that they are the only characters that had most their character development done in ME1 (we had little to no development in ME2 and we had a bit in ME3).
But everyone has different tastes and opinions if we all had the same opinion this forum sure would be boring

lamo, a picture just came to mind of a tame ordered bsn.
You make an excellent point, though a little less passion could do well especially since people can get into all sorts of odd arguements here (funny to observe though)

She makes up for it by having every disease known to man, though, if some of her dialog in the DLC is supposed to be taken literally.Shad Croly wrote...

I honestly think people hate Ashley so much because she's not Shepard's lapdog like all of the other LIs lbr. I love Tali and Liara but seriously all they do is ego stroke Shepard. Ash has no time for that. I like the fact that she's the more realistic & mature romance while sometimes Liara and especially Tali can get pretty high school.
Her character deserved a lot better in ME3, all that can be said.

I've tried really hard to like ME3 Ashley... and somehow I've came out of this DLC wishing that I had left her on Virmire. She was one of my favorite characters right until the coup, after she became a squadmate I found her almost as "interesting" as Jacob. Maybe her lack of content in the base game stopped me from noticing it but I certainly didn't enjoy her scenes in Citadel.
As a die-hard Ashley fan I totally can understand you.
Without ME1!Ash in my mind, ME3!Ash wouldn't feel much of a character. Except her trust issues, none of her original traits and quirks returned in ME3, that's why Shepard's poem on Earth comes out of the blue for those who don't know Ashley has a thing for poetry and Tennyson.
For me, in my mind, whenever I'm writing about Ash, I use an expanded version of ME1!Ashley. That helps enough to fill all the blanks in ME3, but obviously, it's less satisfying than seeing it on screen.

Tali lived for her father all her life to find out he was killed because of something she did (send back parts)
Miranda almost lost her sister, the only person she ever loved and ever had because her father (the only other family, sucks as a human being royally), and she almost lost her sister because of herself.
Garrus caused his entire unit to be killed
Thane is an assassin and all his kills have begun to get to his psyche. He wants to redeem himself for doing nothing but removing bad, but not adding good into the universe by saving his son.
And don't even let me get started on Jack...
So, what is this about Ash being "more rough around the edges"?
Steve Cortez's only failing is that he's greiving for his fallen love and he flys you around the galaxy.

I do feel like being in the "I loved my human squad and I wish I could save them both" club is highly out of fashion nowadays.
