I suffer from very slow loading as well when running Windows 7 pro x64.

System:

Intel E8500 (~3.2Ghz), 8 gig ram (DDR2), Ati 4890x2 (Crossfire), SB X-Fi Fatality.

It ran just fine under Windows XP pro (x86) during my two play through of the game. Sucks since I wanted to give my rogue a shot. Seems like a game-issue according to this thread? Lots of different hardware specs are reporting the same problem so its unlikely to be a driver issue.

i love how the only comment from a dev about this issue is that we refer to it as "increasing load times" and not "memory leak."

Add me to the list, they say they are working on this though so hopefully it will all be resolved soon :)

DISABLE PERSISTANT GORE... I now have "normal load times". Even after hours of game play.

Oooh, i'll try that when long load times start, turn off persistent gore, change areas then turn it back on.

Yes, it seems to improve loading times a notable amount, they are still long, but only about 30 seconds max instead of at least a whole minute.

I also have extremely long loadtimes, can take upwards of 5 minutes in certain cases.

Computer is a brand new (2 days old) Intel I7 2,8 Ghz, 4 GB RAM, ATI 5850, etc.
All drivers are the latest available.
Oh, and the game is installed on an Intel X-25 (Gen 2) SSD.

Running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.

DA:O is the only game installed on it yet. I'll try to turn off persistant gore, see if that helps. Game also has a tendency to lock up (i say tendency, its only happened twice), but computer wise, there is no reason it should *shrugs*  Both lockups have come after extended play (3+ hours), so memory leak might be the culprit ?

Restart the whole game and run the game again. Before it , save the game. It helps you to get faster loadings again.

I was wrong about the gore thing, it depends on the area your in. I was in the Magi Circle Tower thing and it always loaded pretty quickly there. Everywhere else is still very slow, even with persistent gore turned off.

The current solution as already mentioned above, is to restart the game which kinda destroys the immersion.

Aye, gore makes no difference for me, I consider myself lucky to get 20 minutes play time before I get 5-10 minute loadscreens and only 5-10fps..

5-10fps..

That is a problem either your video drivers are not configured correctly or your hardware is lacking.

I found that I needed to turn off the power management with my video card (GTX280) to limit the chugging in densely populated areas. But FPS is a totally different problem than load times. With Persistant gore turned on I found that even after 20 minutes the game was painfully slow loading. Now I can literally poopsock for 6 hours and maybe restart once with it off. YMMV

Yes, it's not as though there will be a patch that aims to improve loading times released at nearly the same time as the first expansion, right?

My loading times start off less than 5 seconds, and they slowly creep up. By time im at about 1hours play time it takes a good 4 minuites to load! (Once i swear i waited 15minuites for a cutscene)

My specs are way over the recomended and loads any other game twice as fast (Crysis etc...)

I kno the game has like a 60hour story line, but its also got a 60 hour waiting time!!!

I also experience progressively longer loading times the longer I play. I would say on average every hour of play time nets me an additional minute of loading time. Last night when changing from redcliffe castle main floor to upper floor it took about 2-3 minutes after several hours of playing. When I saved, quit and restarted the game, going back and forth between the floors took only about 2-3 seconds for each transition, I tried this several times. I have gotten used to quitting and restarting the game from time to time now, but it definately degrades the gaming experience as you come to a full stop there. The same is true when the loading screens take over 5-10 seconds, as my exitement for the next part of the game starts fading away after 10 seconds or so. On top of this I get the feeling I am sitting there waiting for nothing, as nothing is happening, e.g. no harddisk activity showing any actual loading being perfomed, only just before the loading screen disappears will I hear some harddisk activity. The same is true when the black spots showing your route on the map (be it in Denerim, Deep Roads or the Ferelden map) slow down incredibly after hours of play. I agree with another poster here that they are about 10x slower than normal in such cases, meaning a wait of multiple seconds for the next black spot of the route to appear. Specifications of my computer and game follow.

Dragon Age: Origins version 1.02
DLC: Wardens keep, Stone prisoner, Blood dragon armor and Collectors edition
OS: Windows Vista Ultimate x64
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad 9450
MEM: 4x2GB=8GB PC2-6400
Mobo: Asus P5Q-E
GPU: 2 x Asus ATI 4850 1GB cards in crossfire
HD: Western Digital Velociraptor 300GB
Sound: Creative X-Fi gamer PCI card
Best of luck fixing this, I am rooting for the bugfixing team and their magic wands! Image IPB

Anyone else having issues with EXTREMELY long load times?  I'm literally waiting 5 to as long as 8 minutes to load new areas.  Anyone else have these issues?

Running dual nvidia 8800 gts
phenom 9600 BE 2.3ghz quadcore
4gb ram
Win7 x64

It's rather annoying.

I got the same problem.
Restarting the game fixes it thou.
So it's a problem that builds up with time for me.

Load times go from 5 seconds to 2 minutes, same area, same save, after running the game for more than 2 hours.

Yep builds up with time with me also. Seems the more map travel you do the quicker it builds up. The worst is in Orzammar though it seems to make the slow load times happen quicker.

That only makes it worse.

The expansion might ship sometime in March and the DLC has had its release date postponed several times already. Real Soon Now simply isn't good enough when a lot of people can't play the game and/or run into crippling showstoppers.

This may sound strange, but when i installed blood dragon armour and stone prisoner my load times were reduced slightly. Not by much, but was a welcome change :D

I also have the same problem

Quiet Obvious because I if I didn't I wouldn't be on this page....

but I just read from Razgorith that how longer you play the longer the loading screen gets...

this is the same with me actually.

if this is so this means that if you restart your PC / MAC WHATEVER

it should load normally for about 1-2 hours....

if it doesn't then this is the second thing I don't like about DAO

P.S. for those who want to know

(first thing I dn't like is that you can't enter the Castle at Soldier's Peak anymore and now the quest remains uncompleted because you didn't kill the bastard)

Ok, have you guys ever noticed how everyone with an INTEL processor is running the game just fine and gamers who are running the game with AMD processors are getting screwed over. The AMD processor seems to be the problem right ? I have the following:

Win Vista x64

AMD quad core 2.31 GHz

6GB ram

Nvidia GeForce 9800 GT with 512mb

It does indeed seem more common on AMD chips yes, also more issues with ATi cards too....

related?
