I have the same problem. For me it builds up over time especially in Orzammar . I think it is a memory leak issue that they plan to patch sometime soon. Closing out the game and then restarting seems to cure the problem for a couple of hours.

It does indeed seem more common on AMD chips yes, also more issues with ATi cards too....

related?

EHHHH!

Wrong answer. I'm running an Intel chip and an Nvidia card, same problem. It isnt hardware related. Nothing to do with Nvidia, Intel, AMD or ATI. Its a code problem.

Umm... Win 7 Enterprise x64, Q6600 @ Stock speeds, 2x 8800 GT, 4BG DDR2 @ 800 Mhz and loading times at about 3 seconds. I guess it´s a hardware config if anything or background progs hogging resources!! On my laptop I have to wait a while sometimes Core2Duo @ 2,1, ATI 4570, 4GB DDR2 @ 800 Mhz and the same OS but I expect that from a laptop!!

Nope. No background programs, no antivirus. Windows 7 64-bit or XP SP3 Performance edition, doesnt make a difference.

Asus Rampage II Extreme mobo
Core i7 975 Extreme Edition
12GB Corsair DDR3 1333
Triple SLI GTX 280's
2x VelociRaptor 150's
PCPC 1200w Power Supply

I fail to see how this is a hardware config or background program problem ....  .... I think I've got enough hardware to run four simultaneous windows of DA:O.

With the amount of people that have the problem and the vast array of hardware people that have the problem are using, it all points to code.

And yes, I've run it with SLI disabled yada yada yada every different config that I can think of. Still happens. After an hour or two of gaming, load times slow down. Not as bad as some of this people mention but if its taking more than 20 secs on my comp its too slow.

Definately not a hardware problem, i've had my machine for a week now, there *are* no background programs not native to Windows on my comp (i've added a couple the last few days like MSN, Steam, etc).

With the game running, processor usage rarely if ever goes over 30-40 percent, memory usage is never anywhere near fully used, the game is installed on an Intel SSD, all drivers are the newest available, etc. I really doubt the problem is on my end :)

Aye, it is a memory leak. That's the only logical explanation.

My System:

Windows 7 Ultimate x64

Gigabyte GA-EX58-Extreme Motherboard

Core i7 920 @ 3.33Ghz

6GB DDR3

ATI Radeon HD5850

WD 1TB 7200

Same problem. After 1-2 hours of playing, my load times sky-rocket to 5-8 minutes. The only fix i keep doing is restarting the game. I'll try turning off the persistent gore option and see if it helps.

Yep. I just had an Intel system (Core 2 Duo, Nvidia 8800GT (x2)) and now run AMD (Phenom II X4, ATI 5770 (x2)), thanks to a defective South bridge on my previous Mobo.

I have had the same problem with both platforms-- load times are quick at first, but then after the first hour they increase exponentially. None longer than 2 minutes so far, but that's still much worse than the 20 seconds or so that it initially takes when I first fire up the game.

Definitely a software issue.

So....no fix yet? I just started playing, and I am having the same problems. As far as I can tell from reading all 6 pages is:

It doesn't matter if you have AMD/ATI or Intel/Nvidia

The possible fixes/workarounds I have found are:

1: Try running it in compatibility mode

2: Change the affinity

3: Bios update for AMD

4: Reinstall AVG

5: AMD Fusion

6: Hope there is a patch sometime

Anyone know of any others?

PC Specs

Windows 7 64bit

AMD Phenom 9600 Quad

ATI 3870 512mb

4Gb RAM

WD 160Gb 7200rpm

The game's boss but also bollocks lol :( Due to the speed of the load times and just the general speed of movement. And I know for a fact it's not a hardware issue.

The game (and levels) loaded fine for me when I purchased it at launch. Recently, however, I have also started experiencing long load times - 2 to 3 minutes, even just to get into the camp map.

Same goes here: very quick loading during first run, now it's nasty 3-4 minutes for another zone and slightly above 1 minute for transitions between ship's levels. Ridiculous. I say Bioware should stop focusing on DLC and fix the gameplay issues.

Same problem here. Decent spec'd machine and load times are insane. On first run through for a while everything was smooth but as the game progressed the times got longer. Even on a fresh character they're 2+ minutes.
I've defragged, done steam defrag as well but seen no change.

Spec:

Intel i5-750 (quad core)
8Gb RAM
ATI Radeon 5850 (1GB)
SATA HDD
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.

Adding the launch option "-dx9" results in extremely fast load times, e.g. <10 seconds.

I recently acquired this problem after upgrading my AMD Athlon 64 x2 6000+ dual core system to Windows 7 on a new SATA hard drive after my old hard drive began to fail.

Previously was running Windows XP Pro SP 3 on a IDE hard drive with no problems. I've been using the 'affinity' trick to good effect.

Well I have a Windows 7 64 Bit machine with an ATI 4850x2 1GB and 4 gb of ram. i also have a first gen AMD 9500 2.2GHZ processor. After cruising the internet for ages I found that there is a conflict with the first gen Phenoms and Windows Vista and Windows 7. the fix was basically just downloading the TLB Disabler (just google it) and run it. It allows full core functionality and fixed a lot of the problems i was having with Dragon Age and it actually improved performances in several other games as well. Hope that helps.

I have noticed on top of the ridiculous load times for AMD Phenom users there is a slight memory leak as well that has load times slowly increase the longer you play. just a quick save and exit/reopen should refresh it again. no idea what to do with that :/

It's ridiculous that this game isn't fixed yet this long after release.

Bad programming on Biowares behalf.

Just have to wait till they release a patch so it's playable.

Waiting for the patch myself (like many I suspect) so, I haven't been able to experience what I'm sure is going to be a kick ass game :(

How did i miss that thread x.x (feels like a sad noob :( ) this isn't mainly about slow load times due to memory leak though but the limitations of the Phenom first gen series :X

Well, I installed the 1.3 patch, and guess what?  The load time problem has improved DRAMATICALLY.  I have to play for five or so hours before they even get long enough to become slightly annoying.  Of course, at that point, the same fix applies.  Stop and reload.  I guess it was a software issue, and they've resolved it most suitably.  For most people, it should now play fine through an entire day's play, and when they begin the next day, the thing will have reset itself.  Very nice, now Image IPB
One little item to report.  After I reinstalled  DA/O and patched it, on the toon that I started in 1.2, I had the thing crashing outright a few times when I started playing that game again.  I saved that one going into the apartments in the Alienage, and I had about 5 crashes in there.  Once I'd finished the apartment section, though, it stabilized again.  I assume that the problem had something to do with the fact that the save was made in 1.2 and restored in 1.3, coupled with the fact that I'd saved it in easy mode and inadvertently restored it in normal mode.  The fights had suddenly become a lot tougher Image IPB

So I guess this thread finally goes to bed for good and all.  I finished that game and have decided to try starting an entropy mage.  It's been a blast, so far.   Have a nice play!

it's more like a HDD related problem.  at least that's what i just experienced (sorry , Zephyrre, But it seems the blight is still there. LOLImage IPB)

i own 6 HDDs, 2 of them being cheetah 15k.6 15000rpm SAS drives @RAID 0,  then 4x 7200rpm ES enterprise drives, @RAID 10 . all Seagate.

other specs
i7 920 @ 3.8
Vista home premium 64bit
6G ddr3 1333
GTX295  w/ 197.13 WHQL

i first Installed the game on my 7200rpm drives to save up some space , but the load time was slow, i mean, REALLY SLOW,  1 minute+ and  some serious slowdown in camps (slow menu/map/interface loading time,  short freezes during conversations etc. .. )

Then i re-installed it to my 15k rpm drives, man that's some real improvements. now it's only taking <20 seconds to load (initial and during quests) and the slowdown in camps r gone.. Hmmm but how could slow HDDs actually bog down the game's real time performance? i mean, not just the load time, but menu, map, interface and other things as well?

Its not a hardware problem, its a game fault problem which has been going on since the release of origins, and never been looked into or fixed. I am still waiting for a fix for it as it over time gets frustrating, which leads me to believe that when people mention the amount of game time to finish it, is high becuase of the increased load times after playing it for a while, to the point load times can reach 10-20 min.
