After unlocking the Lancer for my canon Soldier Shep, i've found that putting Inferno Ammo on it and pairing it with frequent bursts of AR creates a practically unstoppable, unending stream of firey goodness that can reduce a Banshee to ashes within seconds.

What you'll need:
Soldier-class Shepard (obviously)
M-7 Lancer (LX if possible), equipped with Piercing Mod V and Extended Magazine V
Inferno Ammo (Go for Damage, Headshots, and Exploding Rounds)
Adrenaline Rush (Spec it to your preferences)
OPTIONAL - Marksman (as an alternative to Adren Rush, beware of weapon overheats)

Simply put, this combo is a better, more potent version of the Geth Pulse Rifle Flamethrower of the olden days. The Extended Mag coupled with the higher levels of the Lancer give it a clip size of over 100 - making it hard to run down unless you're up against larger enemies. Spray the Lancer into crowds while aiming for heads, and you'll find even Phantoms going down instantaneously.

Some useful notes about Adrenaline Rush:
  • AR jumpstarts the Lancer's cooldown systems - spamming it means you never have to let go of the trigger
  • The Lancer on its own is light enough to allow almost instant recharges of AR - infinite Adrenaline Rush, anyone?
  • Adrenaline Rush's effects on recoil means the Lancer can reliably hit targets normally reserved for Sniper Rifles
  • Hardened Adren Rush means you can stay out of cover for longer on higher difficulties - keeping the stream going
Marksman is an optional alternative if you want a higher DPS, but at the cost of time dilation and damage reduction. It also has a slightly longer recharge time, so alternating between it and AR is a good idea. It makes the weapon more accurate than AR does, and the increased firerate is very handy against Brutes and Banshees. The Lancer's more prone to overheating here, though.

Theoretically, this combo could also work in multiplayer. The Turian, Quarian, and Human Soldiers could pull it off. Human Soldiers miss out on the accuracy and time-dilation bonuses though. The Turian Soldier, with his passives, would pull it off the best (as usual), with better stability than the Quarian Marksman.

It isn't bad, but there are a couple things to consider.

First of all, Lancer's ROF is not a whole lot better than Harrier, although it is in fact better. Accuracy is a bit worse as well. Likely means less shots on target and so you aren't get too many more IEB's.

Harrier's innate burst DPS is also very high. In fact, sustained DPS for Harrier is a little higher than burst DPS of the Lancer, which is probably a somewhat fair comparison.

I suppose if you are in NG+ and have a Lancer X, then sure it could be better than the Harrier. I didn't find that it is all that better on a Soldier than my Harrier V in a standard game. Now that isn't to say it is rubbish; Harrier is one of the better weapons. Just that it isn't hands down better.

As far as IEB's go, since it is chance based you want ROF. And so rate of fire rules if you want to max that. I would have to run the numbers, but since Lancer's stats are somewhat similar to the Revenant (which I did do a number comparison), probably GPR is slightly ahead.

But I imagine your strategy works well for you. Now I practically prefer to just spam Amplified Concussive Shot over even activating Adrenaline Rush since you can get Fire Explosions all over the place.

Fair points. The one issue I have with the Harrier, though, is you are thoroughly dependent on Thermal clips, which can prove fatal in drawn-out firefights. There happens to be a lot of those on Insanity, particularly at Omega, Sanctuary, the Citadel Archives and fighting the Mirror Matches at the Armax Arena. For clip size, the Typhoon is a good "bunker down" gun.

I still think Infiltrator + Marksman + Indra + Headshots = the ultimate weapon combo in the game.

Yeah.  Usually I do carry at least two guns in SP, and I feel like thermal clip drop is usually sufficient.  Really nor nearly as bad as Platinum can be for keeping clips in the Harrier.

The "No Thermal Clip Pack" bonus can be something of an issue in Armax, but the good news is the units still drop clips when they die.

For Mirror, I used the Suppressor the most.

Anyway, Lancer is a good option though.  I wish more AR's could compete with it.

My opinion about Lancer Assault Rifle
It's an EPIC as(S) r(a)pe weapon ever, even better than bugged mattock in me2. This gun just tears down everything on it's path, literally. Who knew that "old era" guns would be soo good :P
