Also there are occasions when equipment is essential to a loadout, normally if you want AP without using an AP mod.

There is no point in hoarding stuff that you never use.

Even though I never do, I probably could simply because I have a decent amount of level 1/2 stuff, and a crapload of level 3/4 that I could probably use one every match and never run out before I quit playing (assuming I'd get more when buying packs as well).

If you started out playing very "cheap" (ie. not using equipment) you'll likely have saved up enough to put yourself in a position to have more than enough. Is there any real "need" to using equipment in Silver? No, but so long as its never your excuse (that you wasted them in Silver) for Gold/Platinum matches, I dont see a problem.

At least you know when you see someone using equipment in Silver they're planning to extract... or they really suck (one of the two).

I'm not using those lvl 1 and 2 amps etc on gold or platinum. Why not use them during bronze and silver games? It's not like I got them to grave with me anyway.

plus I hate cryo, warp, disruptor,phasic. 

So why not waste it on silver?

Can't defray the cost of use with a subsequent pack purchase, unless it's just trash level I equipment.  Though really, I have the same problem on gold with level III-IV equipment.  Essentially, only level I-II stuff is worth using on gold and below, because the higher level stuff is simply unsustainably expensive.

Because maybe they don't play gold or platinum.  Or they just feel like it.  Just for fun, I've done a bronze match with all level 3 or 4 equipment, just to see what it was like.  (In case you were wondering, it was really, really, really easy)

I don't play platinum, both because I'm not good enough for it, and because I just plain didn't enjoy the few games that I played (though I'm still hoping for a few more for the sake of this challenge).  So why wouldn't I use my best equipment on gold?

I got 2 level ones after buying 400k's worth of JEP's...

I use level 1 equipment on silver. I don't see the issue with it.
