Completely disagree with op

Although the game in its entirety did not rate well in my review Citadel was the best of all DLC that were released no question.

And special operations forces can stay in theater at a forward location for a year or more at a shot. Considering ME3 takes place over a course of a few months, Shep "needing" rest and relaxation is rather unprofessional. Especially when the ship has a bar, card table, and exercise facilities. There was plenty of space to decompress on the ship. Shore leave was unnecessary. It's a bad fan-fic.

Point me to the special forces operatives that fly around in space, fight cybernetic zombie monsters, and have the threat of mile-long Cthulhu battleships looming over their heads. Shepard is a special forces operative and an astronaut rolled into one job, and that would be a hard enough job without regularly getting shot at by weapons that can melt people into puddles of radioactive goo.

Sorry, but Citadel was cheesy in the best possible way. I'm pretty sure you're objectively wrong.

You definitely are objectively wrong as far as hanging out while the war is on goes, at least. Soldiers that don't get R&R don't stay sane. Period.

The ship had repairs, if you talk to edi on deck she says it needs a repair before the years out too.

Normandy is being repaired, not much you as shep can do without normandy.

I certainly pulled no punches criticizing ME3, and I still think there are a lot of problems with the game.  But I know a good-faith, high quality effort when I see one.  This DLC rocks.

Definitely. Plus, fans wanted a bit of R&R with your squad, one final piece of goodtimes before the sh*t hit the fan and we got it. There will always be people who will be unhappy, no matter the devs give them. Don't let me quote Yahtzee on fans, because it's gonna get ugly.

But there was a lot of good humour in the DLC (Wrex. Shepard. Grunt. Shepard. Wrex and Grunt. Sheeeee-eeepard. xD Also, Garrus and Zaeed booby trapping Shep's apartment. xD lol Grunt falling of Huerta Memorial? Yeee-haa. Mordin breaking the one rule of Omega? Lol. The "I should go." scene and many many others). I was practically laughing the whole DLC.

So yeah, I thought the DLC was great, but I knew it was going to be fanservice. If you wanted something else, of course you're gonna be disappointed. But as far as fanservice goes, I haven't seen anyone do it better like... ever.

A point was previously made about soldiers needing r&r. That is a comparison to real life events, inviting my comparison. Simply put, the top-tier combatants during open hostilities don't get to take a few days off after a couple of weeks in the sh*t. Deployments regularly last more than 6 months, with the entire time spent at a forward post. The entertainment facilities aboard the Normandy are substantially better than what the average Green Beret or SEAL has access to in Afghanistan today.

But you're right, I can't point you to a real person who puts up with what Shepard has. However, you can likewise not point me to said face-melting lovecraftian constructs, actual space marines, or any form of zombie that isn't just a hypnotic trance. In the end, we can only draw similarities to real life. And in real life, the guys doing the heaviest lifting in a war don't take breaks. So Shep needing shore leave was crap. End of story.

The Normandy put in for repairs. Repairs which they established needing prior to this DLC. That was the primay reason for the shore leave.

R&R is secondary.

It's shore leave. "Shore Leave" occurs even in the midst of war. I would hope during any leave, soldiers have "FUN". You know. to relieve tension.

And boy oh boy does the Normandy squaddies have fun!

Why complain about this? Come on... really?

Hey, some people don't like fun :P

Sure, Citadel is goofy, but since when has the Mass Effect series ever been a paragon of realism and gritty writing?  There was some hard sci-fi in ME1, but that got tossed out the window in ME2 and 3.  We might as well have fun if the writing's going to stretch credulity anyway.

And in real life, the guys doing the heaviest lifting in a war don't take breaks. So Shep needing shore leave was crap. End of story.

That isn't always true.

There are numerous examples of it during the First and Second World Wars, both of which are among the most destructive conflicts in human history.

In Helmet for my Pillow , an excellent first person account of combat in the Pacific, the author devotes considerable time to a period spent in Australia training and recuperating between the battles of Guadalcanal and Peleliu. He calls this period the 'Great Debauch,' with much of his free time spent drinking and womanizing. Leckie was a front line infantrymen in the Marines who was decorated for heroism at Guadalcanal and seriously wounded (and nearly killed) on Peleliu.

Do you remember the old Gears of War trailer that recited part of the poem, Rendezvous? That poem was written by Alan Seeger, an American volunteer in the French Foreign Legion during the First World War. He, along with American volunteers serving in the French military, were given a few days leave to celebrate the 4th of July in Paris. Seeger declined the invitation, preferring to stay with his unit which was going to be involved in upcoming offensive. He ended up being killed in action at the Battle of the Somme, ironically on the 4th of July. Nevertheless he was offered a few days leave in Paris, and other volunteers accepted it.

They are just two examples, but their experiences were not entirely uncommon.

Also Shepard and his squadmates are part of a ship's crew rather than part of a frontline infantry unit. A ship would presumably have to take to port eventually to restock and refuel, or make repairs, just like real world naval vessels. During these periods it wouldn't be far fetched for the crew to occasionally get some downtime.

dont know if anyone has said it..but that is some ignorant ass shiyet.

Shep is stressed the F out. Shep....and by extension crew....needed a break....how many lines of dialogue involved concern by crew and whatnot in regards to Shep's mindset and possible cracking.

and that other dude did a great job with your IRL horsepucky.    sometimes even an hour off the line is enough.

The DLC might have been a 'bad fanfic', but I had the biggest smile and made the loudest laughs that I've ever out of the entire series during this DLC.

It's supposed to be fun. Something I missed from the rest of ME3. ME3's plot was a 'bad fanfic' to me and the depressing kind. It wasn't funny or happy or anything. It was depressing. It was a great change of pace to have some happy moments again and some great jokes.

This DLC was everything ME3 was missing for me besides the endings which I've long since created my own.
