I'm playing original + HotU + some other module in singleplayer mode and I'd like to be able to use the paralyze attack from the assassin sub-class but if it never work when I need it.
I'll just go with some standard fighter/shadowdancer/rogue build.

The thing to remember is that, in addition to sneak-immune (including all crit-immune) creatures also being immune to death attacks, the target can't already be in combat for the attack to be a death attack (with paralysis) and they won't be triggered from a long distance with a ranged weapon, just like a sneak attack won't. Your assassin needs to sneak up on the target (at least within 30 feet for a ranged attack), hit it, and then the target has to fail the will save. But, unlike a sneak attack, if the target is already in combat (for example, fighting a henchman or summons), then the attack won't paralyze.

That build would only have 3 attacks per round at level 20. To get that 4th attack, go with Fighter 8 / SD 1 / Rogue 11, or Fighter 4 / SD 4 / Rogue 12, or if you're going into epic levels, wait until level 21 to take SD.
Didn't realised it, I thought the SD AB would stack with rogue lol. At first I wanted that level of shadowdancer just for hide in plain sight, but now I'm wondering.
10 SD level in epic would increase my survavibility trough shadow evade at the cost of lower sneak attack.
10 assassin level still give nice defencive tool via darkness, improved invisibility and gosthly visage while retaining strong sneak attack via the death attack
Or I could just go heavy rogue with a few epic fighter level to incrase my AB and a few more EPIC feat.
I think that I'll go 4fighter/16rogue so it will give me enough time to think :-P

Look in the Epic Build Search Engine to find good builds to use, or to inspire you when making your own.
Also, the NWNWiki is a great resouce for character builders.
Finally, if you have Microsoft Excel (or Open Office), Kamiryn's Character Build Calculator is a great help.

Here is where two-weapon fighting can pay off (my MMM Wizard/Ranger/Assassin fights like this).

Or tenser, which also gives two extra attacks. I have a Barbarian/Wizard/Assassin that tensers for 7 APR (including haste) to get three blows on the first flurry.
Dual-kama monks with flurry of blows and haste can get a fourth attack in the first flurry (10 APR), provided they multiclass to have a pre-epic BAB of at least 16.

But this is at the expense of dex, str and other stats so you end up a one trick pony. Generally it is just luck that makes it work and not also having them just die, but the alternative was having it tend to work well but rarely hitting. I do remember other players reporting me to the DM since they were confused as to what was going on since it just was not used that often.
( and this was probably 5 years ago, so probably mis-remember some details beyond knowing it is possible and doable )

From what i remember it required focusing on another stat ( looking it up on wiki, looks like it was intelligence ), which if you got that up high enough, it would actually start working.

Hmmm...
As I stated, a MMM using Assassin and Ranger (a few levels of each, depending on the environment), with mostly maxed Wizard levels. Of course, pump Int (Wizard, no brainer). Good synergy with DA (Death Attack) as stated. Wizard buffs to offset dex, str, etc deficits. No one-trick pony here, but a more-trick warhorse who can also DA.
The only problem I see doing a MMM with Monk levels, is the huge hit to Wizard levels. I personally do not find this acceptable just to get an extra attack in the first flurry. The use of the spell is (Tensor's Transformation), however, a nice idea. I personally prefer the modified version that is closer to D&D PnP, of course, than the standard Bioware monstrosity.
