Well, some people have to save for a long time to shell out ~$600 for a new console. The sooner notice, the better. If it is going to be cross-generational or not is going to result in some serious planning on the part of many people.
No, we don't know. But it would be nice to know sooner rather than later.

Yeah I don't plan on buying the next Xbox, atleast until awhile after the release date. So if DA3 only comes out for next generation, then of course it will affect my choice into buying the game. I'd be more than happy though buying the game if it comes out for the 360 too.

Then start saving your money now, just in case. If the game doesn't require a new console, at worst you'll have $600 dollars saved, which is never a bad thing.Fast Jimmy wrote...

Because I have bills to pay and I can't waste it on a new XBOX just forf one game. So, hears hoping it comes out for 360 as well.

It may also mean I miss playing a lot of other cool games that won't see a dime because I'm hiding my money in a box in the backyard for no good reason. While it will be cool for me to hit a $600 lottery, it will also be at the expense of missed sales for other developers.

I mean just look at Sony's PS4 conference a few weeks ago. Every single third-party game showcased was confirmed to be cross-generation, releasing on "all home consoles".

Same here. I'll buy the new consoles when they're affordable to buy. $600 is incredibly hard to save up for most people in a year's time. Bills to pay, mouths to feed. If it's next gen only and the price is in that range, I won't be buying it until the console prices come down, and by then it'll be resale or bargain bin.

Then you have a choice to make, since your money and your game purchases are entirely under your control. Asking for this information from BioWare because it might cause other developers to lose out on game purchases is pretty weak. Your "good reason" is that you're saving up for a new console because the DA3 might be released on it.Fast Jimmy wrote...

If you have to choose between saving up for a new console and purchasing games in the meantime, and you choose purchasing games in the meantime, then you have chosen to possibly miss out on DA3 if it's released only on a new console. That said, I'm not really sure why you want to put off saving money until later, if you really do "have to save a long time to shell out ~$600 for a new console." Or maybe it's because you're buying new games in the meantime that it takes so long to save, in which case, you should start saving now anyway!

Technically, the entire conversation doesn't really apply to me personally, as I don't buy games but rather rent them through Gamefly and am not really interested in the new consoles until they slide down in price. I'm merely making the argument from the perspective of other possible consumers.
I'm nothing if not a man of the people.

Not missed sales. Delayed sales.Fast Jimmy wrote...

If you do need a new console, then that money was never available for the other games in the first place, but if you don't need a new console then you do still get to spend the $600 on games (or whatever else you choose).

Typically, I buy maybe five or six games a year at release price, because that's all the spare change for games I've typically got. Then I try to find the others (if I remember they exist) when they hit the $15-$20 dollar range. All my purchases together don't equal $600 dollars, generally. And who'd want to forego every other good game out there to overpay for a console at release anyway?
Basically, if we have a real good month around the release sometime, like exceptional, then there might be enough to splurge, like hitting the lottery. More likely, if we (my family) have more money in a given month, it's going to medical or catching up on other bills or some unforseen emergency (which seem to happen like clockwork :-/ ). $600 is a major purchase that is just flat out impossible most of the time whether I try to save for it or not, and a bad investment because with the market being what it is, prices are going to have to drop relatively quickly to grow the customer base. $350 or so is a lot more feasible, and still not trivial.

According to Yahoo, (for what it's worth), they're guessing $350 for the next gen.
@Sylvius - Ha! I love your sig.

And if you need to start squirreling away now to afford a $300-$500 purchase then you probably shouldn't be spending that money on video games.

The tricky question is if it will be released for the new consoles, my gues sis also yes and I would argue the versions won't be that different.
If you ask how I could possibly know that, I will give you the answer: The new consoles will likely be released in the holiday season, which means end of 2013/ early 2014. DA:I will have the same release window (my guess is march 2014, because bioware likes march and so do I because my birthday is in march =D). In march 2014, even if the new consoles will be released ~november 2013, only around 5 mio people tops will have at least one of them. That means their potential costumerbase will be 5mio people + pc gamers. That is nothing compared to the 100mio+ Ps3/Xbox costumers. So why would the reduce their costumerbase? It wouldn't make any sense.
That's also the reason why most of the PS4 launch titles (which have been confirmed so far) are also PS3 titles (except first party games). No publisher takes the risk to release a game on a platform without a playerbase at the moment, when he has the choice of releasing it on a platform which was sold 75mio times.

I personally can't think of a time when buying a new console at launch was ever a good idea. Ever.
It never is in my opinion. And I'll be damned if I spend all that money on the launch price, to then spend 60-100$ (depending on the CE if there is one) on a game for the console alone. Sorry I'm wary enough of Bioware as it is to make that kind of a committed decision.
