Where the hell did that $600 price tag come from? None of the rumors even put the price that high for either console.
And if you need to start squirreling away now to afford a $300-$500 purchase then you probably shouldn't be spending that money on video games.
That was my bad, I was basing it off the PS3's opening price. I seem to remember the 360's debut price being not as high, but still over $400, possibly closer to $500.
And rumors are just rumors. The price tag will be what the price tag is. I was simply basing it off the numbers from the last generation.

PS2. It was one of the cheapest DVD players available, in addition to being a brand new gaming console. Buying a PS2 at launch made perfect sense.Fiery Phoenix wrote...
I personally can't think of a time when buying a new console at launch was ever a good idea. Ever.

True. My PS3 is also my BluRay player this generation, but I waited more than two years to get it.

The 360 was $400 at launch. And considering how quickly Sony remedied their mistake of charging $600 you can reasonably assume they won't be charging that much for the PS4.

Or, as I read it: None of your business whether the equipment you have will be able to play this game as you hope.

I'm pretty sure that DA3 will be next gen. The PS4 will launch holiday season, this year. Also it appears the new Xbox will as well. And DA3 from rumors, will hit stores this holiday season as well. Seems to make sense that it will be a launch title for those systems.
I agree, altough I would say it will be in the launch window, not a launch title. But as mentioned earlier, third parties nearly never release any big games only for the new generation. they always have a version for the older generation. It's simple business and I would guess you won't see the first "pure ps4/xbox720" third party titles until holiday season 2014. But as Mr. Gaider mentioned, everything so far is just guessing around and we will simply see when there are more infos on DA:I (my strong guess is E3 btw =D)

Yeah I don't plan on buying the next Xbox, atleast until awhile after the release date.
Interesting. If there's one thing Bioware's DLC model has convinced me of, it's to wait a couple years before picking up their games at discount with all the DLC included. I guess you can draw a parallel between that and consoles. Buying a console at launch seems like a losing proposition. It's damn expensive, could have many bugs and possible hardware failures. It seems always better to wait...unless you have money to blow and just need to get your hands on everything new.

That too definately. Hardware failures put me through 3 Xbox's. That alone would make me cautious of purchasing one, not only to see how well DA3 is received (again assuming it's a next generation title only), but how the Xbox itself holds up. I will do everything I can to avoid going through that again

That's not a rumor. That comes directly from BioWare.

2 million install base(probably max of what they're going to ship day 1 for new consoles) versus 140 million+(between 360/PS3)...you figure it up. Which install base is likely to make you more money?

It's not a rumor, but until we give an official release date I wouldn't put much stock in it.

It is not. An official. Release date.
It's a target, and can change at any time.

Sorry, first thing that popped into my head. Although a target window is the earliest we will get the game. If one doesn't prepare for the earliest possible date, one could find themselves wih their pants around their proverbial legs.

I didn't call it a release date. I specifically called it a release window. And pointed out, in response to your statement that we shouldn't put much stock into it, that Mike Laidlaw reiterated that window very recently...

It may also mean I miss playing a lot of other cool games that won't see a dime because I'm hiding my money in a box in the backyard for no good reason. While it will be cool for me to hit a $600 lottery, it will also be at the expense of missed sales for other developers.
Just wanted to point out the irony hereFast Jimmy wrote...
LOL Fair enough.
Technically, the entire conversation doesn't really apply to me personally, as I don't buy games but rather rent them through Gamefly and am not really interested in the new consoles until they slide down in price. I'm merely making the argument from the perspective of other possible consumers.
I'm nothing if not a man of the people.
