It is not. An official. Release date.

It's a target, and can change at any time.

I didn't call it a release date. I specifically called it a release window. And pointed out, in response to your statement that we shouldn't put much stock into it, that Mike Laidlaw reiterated that window very recently...

Well, that is the date/window we have at the moment, and until we get something different it makes perfect sense sticking to it for reference. Even if it was an official release date, those aren't really legally binding either.

Still, I get the dev's positions on this as well. They don't want anyone to feel they've been lied to, and I can respect that (as much as I may doubt it will actually work).

I think this could be one of those games that's both on the current and next generation of PS and Xbox consoles. Frostbite 2 runs on current consoles, but I hope it will have a next gen release as well.

For PC gamers this would also be good news, because there would be a big gap between the lowest and highest graphics settings. That means people with slower PCs don't necessarilly have to upgrade.

I will say it will be highly unfortunate if it is only going to be released for the next gen consoles (PS4 and whatever X-Box will unveil soon.)  I only purchase a few games a year.  I am a grown man with bills and responsibilities.  I waited a long time just to buy an X-Box 360.  I love Dragon Age.  It gives me great joy. BUT, I'm not going to buy an overpriced, (and being Microsoft) potentially glitchy new console on launch.  It's not even something I will internally debate.    And so, IF the game is next gen only....I won't be playing it.  That's a shame, but it is what it is.
And, I imagine I'm certainly not alone on this.  I love you, Bioware, but I have to pay a mortgage, an already astronomical cost of living (gas prices aren't getting any lower), and put food on the table.  So...yeah.
Here's hoping it's available for my lowly outdated X-Box 360.  B)

I personally can't think of a time when buying a new console at launch was ever a good idea. Ever.

It never is in my opinion. And I'll be damned if I spend all that money on the launch price, to then spend 60-100$ (depending on the CE if there is one) on a game for the console alone. Sorry I'm wary enough of Bioware as it is to make that kind of a committed decision.

Nevermind the fact that launch time is exactly the right time for people to start noticing major hardware defects, the sort of hardware defects that are usually fixed or at least minimized by the time you buy a console a year or more after initial release (and for less money too).

Relax peeps, while Bioware are remaining tight lipped as ever no doubt due to their NDAs it is quite fortunate for you that I however am not under any NDA.

Dragon Age 3 will be released on the next generation of consoles however for all you tightwads who are too cheap to shell out the cash for a new console you will be happy to know you will still be able to purchase a copy of Dragon Age 3 for the current generation of consoles. Consider this just another facet of EA's generosity when it comes to its more impoverished fans, EA understands that you dont need to have the latest technology to be a valued consumer.

I'm fairly sure that DA3 will be on current and next gen consoles. My main concern is whether it's designed for next gen, hopefully making full use of their capabilities. The limits imposed by memory can't be ignored any longer - most developers are loving the 8GB ram promised by PS4. I hope DA3 takes advantage at least. That is also good for a PC gamer like myself.

The current gen can't be ignored - there's a massive installed userbase - but a simple port to PS4/next Xbox would be regrettable.

I am curious about one thing. If it is released for the new consoles, and the new consoles aren't backwards compatible, will we be able to transfer over our saves and import them into the new game? Will the new consoles even have an option to transfer hard-drive data beyond user profiles? I suppose we have no answers, but it does make me curious.

To me what console it will be released for really will depend on when the game is released, if its going to be released several months after the new consoles have been released I can see it being released only for the next generation systems, just like most games have been in the past.

I think it will be release on the current gen as well as the next gen consoles. Surprisingly Diablo 3 announce for PS4 as well as the PS3 actually gave me a bit of hope for DA3 on PS3/X360. Just incase I am wrong. I will be playing DA3 in about 2-3 years.

I certainly don't want to shell out 600$ for a new console just to play Dragon age... But the sad thing is that I'll do it.

Got this snippet from here.

Xbox 720 price

That leaked document we mentioned earlier mentions a $299 (£190) price point which sounds gloriously ambitious to us. Expect the Xbox 720 price to be a bit more than that but assuming the PS4 launches around the same time, expect some competitive pricing.

As much as we are all looking forward to DA3, surely it can't be the only motivation for those of you who play on consoles to upgrade to the next gen system when the time comes. Surely there are other games to be made for said systems that you'll want to play as well yes?

If that's the case, you're probably going to upgrade at some point anyway, so why get all worked up about which generation of system DA3 will be on?

It might be on all consoles actually. I saw the advertisement for assassins creed IV in gamestop today, and at the end, it said it would be released for pc,ps3, 360 and next-gen consoles. It's highly likely Da3 will do the same.

Side note: I noticed they said consoles (plural), so I'm thinking the new xbox will be revealed and released before Assasins creed IV comes out in october.

It would be a financial mistake for EA not to release it for 360/PS3 if they can run it. Adoption of the new platforms will not be ubiquitous for some time.

Seriously? What exactly is it about the Dragon Age series that inspires so much faith and a desire to play that you are willing to fork out so much money in order to play it? Hell I am not even sure I am willing to pay 60 for the latest installment let alone 600.

Because I absolutely adored DA:O And I really enojoyed Dragon age 2. I think DA2 could have been a fabulous game had it not been so rushed. I have faith that bioware will do great things with DA3. In short, why would I shell out 600$ for a new console just to play dragon age? Because I love it. :wizard:

Ah ok guess I dont share your love of the series then, I always thought that the popularity of Origins had more to do with the shortage of RPGs at the time and a desire to see a return of the great RPGs of the past generations rather than the actual quality of the game and its writing.

That is not to say I diddnt enjoy Origins and am not interested in seeing how DA3 turns out I just dont see what people think is so great about the series. I did find Awakening and DA2 pretty abysmal however so I guess that doesnt inspire much faith.

I never understood the idea of "I'll buy a new console just for DA3"

You know they will continue to make games for your brand new console after DA3 right?

Does anyone actually expect to stop gaming or stop making use of their new game console after they finish DA3?

DA3 might be the first game you play on your new console, but suggesting it is the only use you get of it is pretty absurd. Sure, some people could really buy a new console and only play 1 game on it for the next 5+ years, but that seems pretty unlikely.

My conspiracy theory is it will be this generation of consoles, the only reason they are waiting on announcing things is because they don't want to steal thunder from the Hutt Cartel release and are waiting till after that. I am also betting that Hutt Cartel's release is hitting delays and won't be till June.

It's not that stupid really. Most people buy consoles or upgrades for PC in order to play certain games not the other way around. For example I bought PS1 for mere couple franchises I knew was coming to the system. I bought PS2 because heard some of my favorite franchises were heading to that system etc.

Consoles are only as good as the games released for them. People will tend to buy the next gens based on which franchises will be on them so that they can continue to play the franchises they love and DA:I won't be the only game ever released on that system so it's an investment in the future of your hobby.

Personally however I play on PC these days and also even if I was to pick up a new console I would wait till price drops maybe year after release when the amount of games on them are greater in number but in principle buying a new system for franchise love is not stupid.
