I am a total newbie to modding and of course, I have a question to ask.
I'm on a project to add NPCs to the camp. I've decided to give my NPC different opening lines. (Alternating between "Oh Greetings" "Hello" "You again?" "Got some ale?" randomly but saying "We are at a close" when during the final quest for example). Now I can probably do the latter via some flags depending on quests. For the former, I thought I could have a script that rolls a dice and decides what to say. Then I realized I had no idea how to do this.
Is it possible to run a script as soon as the dialogue initiates then take the return value and decide the conversation outcome?
Is it possible to do this DURING a conversation? It could be handy to provide random answers along the way. But I guess if you have done the first, you can use the value to provide different values and use them on latter stages.
I just have no idea how to trigger the scripts. I actually don't know how to start my "create object" script either but I think it's about placing it on some tables.
Speaking of it, 2DA/M2DA basically means a table or am I horribly wrong?
Thanks for bearing with me.
A last question, is there a jargon for asking such starter questions? I may have skipped some tutorial or some how-to somewhere.
If there is none, maybe we should start a "ask-a-question" topic?
PS: I see there is a script option in the dialogues, but I'm not sure how it works. There is a parameter option but is there a way to get the return values?
Another example I thought, choosing a title that is based on sex. "Greetings boy/girl" type.
