"Story"
"Character"
"Gameplay"
ME1:
Story - #1
Characters - #1
Gameplay - #3
ME2:
Story - #2
Characters -#1 (yes, two first places)
Gameplay -#2
ME3:
Story - #3
Characters - #3
Gameplay -#1
So if we take in account ME1 felt like a RPG with a big action part and ME2 was an Action-RPG with a very big RP part compared to ME3 which simply feels like an action game with a very light simulation of RP, the outcome is basically this:
ME2 - #1 (strong characters, a tad weak story, good gameplay.)
ME1 - #2 (almost perfect, minus weak gameplay, especially combat)
ME3 - #3 (lacking story and character development, big malus)

ME2 > ME3 > ME1
All DLC considered?
ME3 = ME2 > ME1
I don't want to give the wrong impression though. I still loved the hell out of ME1.

Imo, there are 3 kinds of games :
- ME1
- Other ME games
- The other games.
Amazing story. Amazing experience. Amazing... No word to explain how I love this game^^

ME 2 and ME3 are almost tied for me.
I think I'll go with ME2, simply because it's fantastic character storylines.
I love ME1 with all my heart, but going back to it again, I realize that it feels kind of dated. Fantastic story, and a wonderful introduction to the ME universe, but it certainly feels aged now.
Why? I never get the complaints about gameplay. Unless you start from level 1 on Insanity (3rd playthorugh at least), the shooting doesn´t feel that different from the other games. Enemies still go down fast and weapon kickback is no worse than ME 2 or 3. Most annoyingthing was the individual cooldowns.
On topic: Storywise: ME1>ME2>M3 (Without the endings would be1>3>2)
Gameplay: ME3>ME1>ME2

ME2 wins some points for me simply from being my introduction to Mass Effect. No matter what I saw in 1 ME2 was what grabbed my first. It's not rational but I can't change that. Also it's the first time I really, really cared about the characters in any work of fiction.
ME3 had the best moments in the entire trilogy and the best gameplay. Unfortunately it also had the worst moments and the greatest number of rough edges that should've been addressed (ME1 had some but it was finding its feet and they weren't generally the simple, obvious things like vanishing rocks and twisting heads that really should've been picked up by QA early on).
So it goes ME2, ME1, ME3 for me.

ME2's plot might have been mediocre and unfocused, but to be honest, what made that game great was the characters and world-building. The entire thing was well written, despite Lazarus (which I really don't get the hate about.)

I find that it just never feels fluid enough in 1, and is rather too imbalanced. At the start it's hard to take anything down, at the end everything dies easily. Fluidity-speaking ME2 has an edge to be honest, with there being enough slots to map some key squad powers to keys so no need to pause. Actually I've never even bothered checking to see if you can do that in 3, by dropping some of your own. Must have a look sometime, so that may be an unfair accusation against 3.Nerevar-as wrote...

Also one more thing: Both ME2 & ME3 had dated gameplay.

The first game will always be my favourite though. Possibly my favourite game ever actually

I don't want to give the wrong impression though. I still loved the hell out of ME1.
For story and plot: ME1 hands down.
For better mechanics and character and dialog: ME2
For best gameplay and visuals ME3.
For WORST story: ME2 followed closely by McGuffin ME3
For worst RPG: ME3
For highest cost for least return: ME3
For highest productivity achieved while the game is running: ME3
Because while all the autodialog is going on you can do laundry, get the mail, read the paper, wash dishes, play with your dogs, mop the floor, take a dump, etc. You just start the game and let it go all autopilot. No effort, no fuss.

I love each game, but in the end, the Talimance content in 2 and 3 give them an edge over 1.

..Why did you quote me? I don't agree with a lot of what you said, but it didn't come off as a rebuttal.
