You were right to leave the lobby. Even if you have a team skilled enough to extract on platinum without equipment, that same team would complete said platinum match much faster with level III or IV equipment. They either had no clue about ME3 MP platinum, or they were missile glitchers.

Yeah, such a waste... gotta save all those consumables for bronze games.

Sarcasm aside, what are you going to be saving them for anyway. Diamond? Oh wait...

3 possibilities exist

1. they were missile glitchers
2. they expected to fail
3. they were extremely stupid

Sadly, it could even be some combination of all three.

Sounds like they were gonna do some Rio farming to me, which would indeed be a waste of consumables.

I can understand not using consumables on bronze.
I can understand not using consumables on silver.
I can understand not using consumables even on gold.

But I simply cannot comprehend not using consumables on platinum. People saving them for what? If you don't spend money on jumbo packs, while buying only spectre packs... Then don't play plat.

Lol. Talk about preparing for failure. I can't understand that mindset.

If they said not to use consumables on Platinum, then they were fools and you should eat them.

Did a bronze game last night, for a quick extraction run, I saw 3 Experianced players, N7 over 1000, a few thousand challange points, using Lvl 20 characters, TGI, Juggz and one other, all equipped with lvl 3 or 4 equipment, for Bronze........and we didn't get one of those wave surived medals either.

It depends what class you're playing and what/how everyone else is playing. I haven't come across a game yet where I've said to myself "Oh man, if only I had a little bit more shield or dps, we totally would have won that round."
Much greater factors:
No coordination with your team due to no one talking
Personal stupidity
Teammate stupidity
Sync kills
Lag

All of which can cause the team to fail, and none of which you can predict before you play a round with the team.

I'll use gel and rockets if I think it'll make a difference. I won't use gear until I've played a round with the team and know they're capable of handling it.

I had my first platinum extraction in a long time today (I usually play gold). I was a Krolord, and I had -3 Juggernauts- on FBW plat Cerb. It was beautiful, and I don't think there was much equipment being used, if any. I wasn't using any.

I consider Platinum a waste of time in addition to Equipment when you pretty much have to have everything be ****ing perfect. Expert players, good teamwork, lots of communication, timed synergy of powers, top-tier characters and weapons, etc.. You can't use whatever the Hell you want and still have a good chance to succeed like you can in Gold, provided you know how the game works of course. There's little to no room for role-playing, just a bunch of strict optimum bull****. It's miserable as ****.

I agree with this 100%

Hence the reason why I don't care about the platinum part of the weekend challenge. Just skipping it. Silver and Gold are fine for me. Especially considering I play this game for fun using various underpowered weapons and characters.

It's not about needing to use equipment. It helps, so why wouldn't you use something to increase the odds of success?

My expectations
Gold - At least level 1
Plat - At least level III
More experienced, better players can pull it of with no mods for gold or level II & less for platinum, but they'll be trading mods for time. the higher the damage output, the shorter the time it takes to complete the match.

My equipment and my builds are often so intertwined that I rarely don't use some form of equipment. It's been said before, using AP rounds in place of the mod, for instance, something I regularly do.

For me there's only 1 reason why to play without equipment besides the gear slot, so I can feel comfortable in platinum. When I play without equipment I get used to the feeling and I'm able to expand my comfort zone in platinum and when I use equipment it feels like I roflstomp everything.

If you're relying on equipment you're going to struggle if you try to do something harder.

However, once I completed all my rares on my manifest I just use them anyway since it continually to stack over time and make runs easier.

It's cute, most of the people here seem to think that if you have no equips you most obviously suck giant wang, not true, with a decent group I usually only use an ammo type 1 mod and a perma gear for my shotgun, I play a drell. If they don't go down we tend to at least get the survive 3 waves medal, I'm sure I could do this without the lvl 1 ammo mod just as well.
I may not get the most points, but I'll go down the least.

Using equips doesn't make you better or great, it simply gives you more advantages and more ability to sit there and get hammered by the badguys. Start playing with crappier mods, and then when they're all tier 1 mods start removing them altogether, only keep the perma. It makes you awesome at the game, after that point when you can play without anything, you'll probably be able to carry people with stuff on, or solo it with stuff on.

Personally I think when I'm using equips it hinders my progress as a player, it makes me too ready to fall onto the benefits instead of learning to play better as myself. To me equips are like playing in the Rio box of shame. Both work and I wouldn't say doing either is bad (i fully admit I've box of shamed a number of times for creds) however when you're in the box for a long time when you go to play a real legit game it's significantly harder because you've been placated. I feel the same about the mods too, the more you use the higher up ones the more placated you'll be, when you run out of them it'll be harder for you to win them. For those with full manifests this isn't a problem since they can just buy 3 or 4 jumbo packs to refresh their stuff every game (providing they've won) however for those like me, who don't have a full manifest we run out of stuff and, at least for me, don't readily feel like buggering around with that crap, rather get the manifest up instead.

To be on Plat with no equipment disgusts me.

Some people just want to see the world burn.

I helped a couple of guys get lodestar done using a melee cabal build off host.

Platinum is a cakewalk.

What? Where else are you going to use equipment?

If the ME universe had darwin awards those people could be added to the shortlist.

I think what they MEANT was: "Using equipment is a waste because we suck so bad that all the Cyclonic Modulators in the world won't help you carry us to extraction."
