i use the hex shield, especially on platinum, it blocks off all ranged attacks (except for prime blasts, dunno whats up with that) allowing your heavy melee to keep you shields up when hitting the melee ranged guys without having to worry about the ravanger across the field

Either are viable. It depends on your game play. Just know that on platinum as soon as the turret shoots its pee shooter at an enemy it will get destroyed. I use the hex shield evolved for shock damage and size. It is good for stopping Geth bombers in their tracks which on Platinum is a lfe saver. It also stops Pryo flames. His shield is a mobile wall. I don't take the 10% damage buff evolution. Instead I take the shield buff and damage resistance. Because when I play Platinum, I am the tank, wall, and and all around hinge point for the team.
Here is a good Platinum make up. Firebase Giant or Glacier. Choose where you want to go. The team should have two Geth Juggies, one Geth soldier spec'd for flame damage, distance, and duration, and a Volus Engiineer with Shield Boost, Recon Mine and Proxy Mine all set for damage
Buff. The Geth Juggies should carry level five armored compartments with a shotgun with an omni blade attachment, a high level Prothean beam weapon with level 4 AP ammo. The Geth Juggies should also carry level 3 Strength modifiers, level 4 AP ammo, and level 4 Cyclonic Modulators. The Geth Soldier should carry a level ten Tempest, you heard right, or a high level Hurricane and a high level Eagle or Talon all of which should have a barrel extension or a magazine expander, this depends on your game play, and a power amp. His equipment should hinge around level four ammo, a weapon buff of your choice, and equipment to buff flamer and a level 4 cyclonic modulator. Now the Volus should have level 5 medigels transmitter and anything he wants so as long as he has a 200% cool down bonus so he can spam shield boost. It will be boring for the Volus. But if everyone does their part, communicates, and maintains position, Platinum will be modestly easy. I hope this helps.
The Vorcha are also very viable on this team. I like the PPR because I don't run out've ammunition. I used to carry a high level N7 machine gun(the name eludes me at the moment) but would run out've ammo quickly. And having to leave my position because I ran outve thermal clips is death for all involved. And the missiles should only be used in emergencies. And some rules or tips. Follow. If you missle a target clearly call it out before hand, if you go down during an intense fire fight medigel yourself. If it is not intense, a person will clearly state who that they are going to revive you. It is normally the Geth soldier since you two will close. The Volus and Geth Soldier that is. Or one of the Juggernaughts will revive you. Again, hope this helps. Oh and forgive spelling errors. I am on an iPad and the auto correct is a pain and when you post a quick reply you can only type so much before your words dissappear off the window due to space constraints.

I go hex shield, not only for the 10% damage boost, but it gives me some "cover" to get behind when fighting an atlas or praetorian. Doesn't seem to work against a ravager though. Haven't tested against scions yet.

Find it interesting people saying the shield turret is great and a 'life saver' for the Juggernaut. It really isn't. In fact it's pitiful. I watched the shields it gave me, it was pathetic. It was more beneficial tossing down the Hex and waiting a few seconds or using it to provide cover while I melee'ed someone. Weird stuff.
It's not the amount of sheilds the turret provides... it's the shield gate.
Actually this is wrong. For maintaining shieldgate you need something that regenerates your shield fast and regularly, like the Repair Matrix or the melee.
600 Shields every 6 seconds? That is just enough to help you tank a single mook. If the damage of a single mook on a juggernaut makes such a difference to you, you are doing it wrong. More likely, it doesn't make a difference but you mistakenly attribute the restore from the melee or the base shield restore to the turret. Try it, in any of those situations where you tank damage you would do just as fine without the turret.
A hex shield however can help you tank a magnitude of order more incoming dps and/or causing a magnitude of order more damage to the enemy than a turret could ever hope to achieve. Of course, placement needs to be done with a little thought, so you and your teammates can use the shield as soft cover instead of getting blocked completely.
