PAY FOR ORIGIN?!

Are you out of your mind? Even if it was totally reliable, completely fixed, and offered all those extra features that would only make it PC-average. As in, the lowest and most basic STANDARD of what we expect. (Steam is essentially what you're suggesting and it's completely free)

Asking people to pay would be robbery.

Agreed...

It's enough that around here you have to pay money to earn money. As in you can't get paid without a bank account and those become costlier and costlier by the year. And it's never ever been easier / cheaper to host either (moore's law / better than ever competition among isp's).

Though steam was far from perfect in the beginning (and still isn't) but it is allmost the benchmark for this these days. So it would have to be substantially better for it to cost money.

No, UNLESS Origin becomes OVER NINETHOUSAND times better than steam, has no problems, and I get all Origin games for free (or at least extremely cheap). That will never happen because EA doesn't care about our opinion as long as they get $$$.

Speaking of free and Steam, PlanetSide 2 is a shining example of exactly how craptastic ME3's netcode and/or servers are. If PS2 can be done, why is it so hard to keep a stable connection for a 4-player co-op game?

Planetside 2 has actual servers, Mass Effect 3 doesn't. Mass Effect does multiplayer servers in the cheapest way possible and it shows.

I'd only pay for origin if i get these low grade morons, who programmed this ****, to strap them into a chair and beat them in the face with heavy mining equipment. Apart from that, and i am not asking for much, no.

I'm certainly not paying for a piece of crap that kicks you out of a game with 1 second to go before extraction for no reason. They should pay me for wasting my time.

OP is funny. Poked the beehive.

But seriously, Origin has improved more than 100 per cent from when I first had to use it for Kingdoms of Amalur, and that brings it up to 'below average.' At this rate, it might even offer some kind of added value in a few years, rather than just having become better at not constantly crashing and disallowing me from installing or playing games in a fascinating and sinister variety of ways.

You assume Steam does not evolve in the same time which is wrong.
In fact Steam is preparing for a giant leap to bring PC-gaming on the big TV-screen while Origin is just s***ing donkeyballs, maybe a little less than 1 year ago but still with passion.
The sim city debacle shows how bad actually Origin is.
The only question is: How long is EA willing to have lower revenue with Origin exclusive games? There sure are some cash cows like BF that sell great even on Origin but a lot of games just won't sell on Origin.

Also, at this point I think it is unfair to compare Steam and Origin. They have competing visions for their respective services, I look at Origin as EA's exclusive store/platform for their PC titles, I look at Steam as Valve's attempt to bust PC gaming out the bedroom/basement/computer room.

One of the biggest differences I see between Steam and Origin, is that EA is actually releasing their own games on their service. When was Valve's last major release? The last big news from Valve has been about Big Picture and the Steam Box, while the last games they released were CS:GO in 2012 and before that, Portal 2 in 2011. It seems like Valve is a gaming service that occasionally makes games, while EA publishes games with a gaming store/service on the side. If Origin wants to compete with Valve, they have a lot of catching up to do.

So, would I pay for Origin? No.

Would I pay for additional premium services Origin provided? Maybe, but not anytime soon

Pay?

OP, Origin is crap. People shouldn't have to PAY to make it a reliable service, something it should be anyway. Unless you're one of those people who doesn't mind throwing their money at EA.

I was going to buy ME3 on PC, but then I saw that I had to use Origin. I said "hell no!" and never looked back.

No. I paid for my games once. I refuse to pay for them again every month to be allowed to play them. That's the exact same reason why I refuse to play World of Warcrap.

This would start a bad practice, imagine if all platforms like origin decide to do the same? I use Steam (because it's good), Origin (because EA require it), Ubiplay (forced to use too), windows live (forced to use.. again).. Imagine paying for all this things? No, thanks.

They force us to use origin, it's their obligations to offer a good service, and it's on their interest. Steam is a powerful tool against piracy, since it offer a nice environment, it's nice to have a game on steam, people that was used with piracy started buying games there, first because of the price, but them they just get used with the comforts and advantages that steam offer. Origin should do the same...

Wow.

We play on PC because we don't want paid nonsense subscriptions. And we don't want any of those chat "features" when there are free alternatives.

F*ck no. Are you f*cking kidding me??

Origin is complete f*cking garbage.

Its a terrible f*cking product, and the service/upkeep for it is even f*cking worse. I would pay EA so that i wouldbnt be forced to f*cking use it, its that bad. Random Disconnects, random unable to connect online, random passwords not working, etc.

Origin is a terrible product, a half-assed attempt by EA to compete with steam, and failing to do so miserably. The only reason it gets used is because EA made it 100% necessary for some games. Until EA learns wtf customer service is, and how to ACTUALLY listen to their customers, the only thing that can be done to improve Origin is to detonate it in a controlled environment.

On top of that, OP: Party chat, and the ability to message anyone is already included you f*cking idiot. This thread should be deleted, as possibly paying for a sh*tty product would only cause harm to consumers.

Absolutely this.

The PC is an open platform, OP. We don't need to use Origin chat (and we certainly don't need to pay for it) when there are other services.

Considering that most of the nerworking effort is made by the players themselves, and that we already payed for the game and we pay for an internet provider: NO. I will never pay for that kind of service that i've already payed.

Isn't this fixed Origin, called Steam?

Though if you buy directly from Origin you're already paying for a subscription with their inflated prices.
