Sometimes it is interesting to divine meaning and interpret things from another perspective. :D You should try doing Literature Theory and Criticism (that is, if you haven't already) - OMFG, the amount of bull**** we end up reading into texts, honestly it can be so far-fetched it's an absolute joke

Heh, I'm a pragmatic person really - a necessity for a programmer, but it means I have a really low BS tolerance.  The real question is, if that's the case, what the hell am I doing on web forums?

Truth. Well my BS threshold is relatively low also, particularly given the course I have chosen to do, but actually I would say that most people on these Dragon Age forums are quite reasonable and very friendly

I used to frequent the Escapist forums, and for some reason they have the idea over there that they are all terribly mature and civilised, and basically better than the whole internet: in fact, however, they are the biggest bunch of ****s I have ever come across in the course of my lifetime :D

And you were expecting a bunch of people who think they're better than everyone else to not be total idiots? So nai- er, cute... It's cute, really...

Edit:  actually, it must have been like watching The Late Review....   Which is why I stopped watching The Late Review.    (BTW if anyone feels like doing the human race a favour please drop a piano on Germaine Greer)

So you aren't British? Things are getting pretty messy here Posted Image

Weeeell, I usually describe myself as British actually, mainly because it's a bit more PC, supposedly, and I don't particularly want to be seen as a patriotic English stick-in-the-mud :D

Go for it. I had a whole load of English patriotism going in the other British=Humans thread and it was great fun.

For the city elf origin, you're basically an elven version of william wallace.

Human's moral ruled by Chantry = Christian ****s

Elves = Something like Jews

Why? For the first there is no need for argumentation, for the second just check the codex entry of the great march of the elves and tell me not that they were searching for Israel.

True,
people probably say some unreasonable things, but what I have noticed
is that if you are reasonable with them then you will get er...
reasonabilty in return [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/smile.png[/smilie]

And
you were expecting a bunch of people who think they're better than
everyone else to not be total idiots? So nai- er, cute... It's cute,
really...

It's not really like that... they
pride themselves on 'strict' moderators (who just ban people at the
drop of a hat) and are always comparing themselves to 4Chan and other
forums. Arrogance, pride and a bit of egotism I can handle... but ffs,
make sure you have a reason to be all these things.

You would not believe what a boring, braying flock of sheep those guys are [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/andy.png[/smilie]

Oh, seriously? Can't we have one sodding thing that isn't an analogue to someone's view on the real world? I really hope I never create a game or work of art or anything since I won't be able to sneeze without the entire bloody world divining some meaning from the pattern my snot makes on the hanky.

Edit:  For the record, I do, occasionally, every so often, like to read a book, watch a movie, play a game, or listen to some music that is not actually trying to ram somebody's ideologies down my sodding throat.

I have to agree 100%.  While I like ones that raises questions and makes you think, as long as they let you come to your own conclusions.  Otherwise, if the message is indeed an absolute fact then I have most likely already learnt it thanks! <_<

@Spaghetti_Ninja:  That's much better!  :)
@FlintlockJazz:  Yeah - and it's bad enough when these messages are supposed to be in there.  It's even worse when you get someone else injecting their own messages into something.  I was reading a preview of The Book Of Eli (trivia - this was written by Gary Whitta of PCGamer US and PCGamer Podcast fame), and the writer of this article had basically decided that every single Denzel Washington film was about God, and then went through some serious logical acrobatics to back that statement up.  I mean, Training Day and Crimson Tide?  If you went and found the people working on those films, and asked them if they were making films about religion, what would be the reaction?

I reckon that the guy writing this nonsense was Christian and was very happy being Christian (nothing wrong with that), and thought that everyone else should be Christian too, and thought telling people that Denzel Washington wanted them to be Christian would help.  Personally, I'm not Christian, I'm quite happy not being Christian and would rather he just got on with his job rather than trying to convert me.

Maybe it's just that half the stuff out there is pushing the message that the British are evil and we should all feel terribly guilty for being British (yes I am British).

Technically the Irish are Irish. The Northern Irish can be British.

I've never really drawn any comparisons for the elves, Irish works though. Or maybe scottish.

I couldnt help to make the correlation between the poor downtrodden Elves and the Irish.  The humans of course are the Brits and the blight itself is the potatoe famine of 1845.  I can just hear the King saying, "The blight has been brought on because of the lazy overpopulated ways of the Irish!"

Did the humans breed their way into the Northern part of the Elven land so they can't be voted out as well then?

And this is why I LOVE fantasy games. So many people willing to offer blinkered views on real world politics that obviously hold SO much influence on the game itself.

Keep it up! Maybe you can get the IRA instituted in game. Posted Image

Hey, this is serious stuff! You made one mistake, and now the IRA is gonna ram themselves down your throat. Literally.

It's supposed to be pretty uncomfortable.

A bit unfair. Very few things are 100% original, and it's clearly based on a European style continent. Why not idly speculate further?

There's a guy, works down the chip shop, swears he's elvish.

What they should have done is give all the dwarves Yorkshire accents, and the elves accents from Dorset or Somerset. That would have worked out much better.

Ha, have you played Divinity 2? They all have regional accents   I've only played the demo but there's some quality "zummerzet" voice acting in there:)

:D That would be hideous.

Do you recall their attempt at some sort of regional accent with the Curator outside Derim's Chantry? I think I detest speaking to her more than anyone else in the game

I have "issues" with some of the dwarves using such English-sounding swear words. Every time Ogren says "sodding" I wince a bit :D Hadn't noticed the curator though!

Oh for the love of cripes!

I play games like this to get away from real world politics!  Sad to see the amount of people that insist there is some correlation to coincidence no matter how similar they may seem.  Also let's please not compare entire nations to one race when it comes to games.  I cannot stress the word "game" enough.

When you said "Elves = Irish" were you talking about the Dalish or the City Elves?  And a Darkspawn Blight has some similarities to the Potato Blight (though there was more than one through Irish History, IIRC), but they are vastly different things.  For example, mutant evil potatoes did not rise up and start slaughtering thousands of people.  They didn't have to, the resulting famine did that for them.  I reiterate, stop comparing nations and pieces of history to what happens in video games.  It will lead me down the road of my meast favourite topic:

"For the most part, people seem to be losing the ability to tell reality apart from video games."

This is my stop.
