I just completed the Mirror Match on Casual, and it was a lot of fun! However, I need to complete it on Normal for the achievement, and I'm having a lot of trouble. (I'm not the strongest of players, obviously.)

Does anyone have any advice for the best combination of squadmates and weapons, or any general tips? Which map is best to use? For this playthrough I am a level 60 soldier Shep and have all squadmates unlocked except Miranda (did the DLC before Horizon). I used Kaidan and Wrex on the jungle map last time, and they were pretty good; they didn't die once. Kaidan's Overload and Wrex's Carnage were also useful against shields/armour.

They should put 11 waves of level 60 Shepards in as an enemy in MP, it'd be a hundred times harder than Platinum. ;)

I've only done it once, and I used Miranda and Garrus. I had it on random map and it gave me the jungle one, not sure what it is called.

I did soldier as well. Incendiary Explosive Burst ammo and Amplified Concussive Shot are your friends here since they are armor and you can chain detonate. Squad powers for more combo detonating or shield stripping.

Be wary of their power spam, usually a couple are coming at once and that will ruin your run if they hit you.  They can be dodged with a timely roll.

Also pay attention to where they are spawning.  I think if you set up opposite of their spawn it is best.  The different classes approach at different speeds, so you can deal with fewer at once.

Of course, if you have all grenade users on your team you could attempt to nuke spawns.  I would recommend Ash and Zaeed for that since both have Inferno Grenade and that primes even protected targets.

Here is my soldier run

Also, you don't have to beat it with any bonuses on, so might as well make sure they are off.

Pretty much with Capn said. I did it with the Soldier as well.

For squadmates, I went with Javik and Jack(anyone with Warp will do). Cast dark channel with Javik then detonate with Jack, or you can prime with Jack's warp and detonate with Javik's grenades. This strategy allows you to cause damage from a safe distance.

For map selection: go with the larger ones like the Armax Arena or the Jungle one. They're both wide maps with lots of cover.

Leveling your weapons will also help. Personally, I don't like to level my weapons pass 3 but if you just want the achievement then I suggest maxing them out.

I brought along Zaeed and Garrus, their ammo powers along with their general skills are useful against shields and armor (and they can use the Typhoon, which helps greatly), and my Adept was spamming Warp and Flare like no-one's business.

If you have the Groundside Resistance Pack, bring two squadmates who can use Assault Rifles and give them the N7 Typhoon, its overpowered on squadmates.

Use the venom (if available) and you are having issues with it. Here is a run I did with it on the craziest possible settings, and it was pretty simple.

It's important to remember one thing: you only have to WIN in order to get the achievement, so activate the modifier that lets you do extra damage and only have that active. You'll take a 10% hit to your score, but since score doesn't matter in getting the One and Only achievement, there's no reason not to take every advantage possible. I did the match on Spin Zone, but that's just my preference for the map.

armax classic with garrus and grunt. Grunt with a shotgun will go toe to toe with the enemy and you just have to take them out while grunt distracts them, and garrus's overload and PM comes in handy here for stunning/detonating combos/increase damage taken. Always take the high ground because that makes enemy power harder to hit you and vanguard can't charge you so long as you stay in cover. Always take out vanguard first because that charge/nova combo pretty much guarantees instant death. Like Shad Croly said, you don't have to activate any of the modifier.

Anyone got any tips for an Adept. I spent 4 hours last night trying to get it on normal with the player bonus damage active and only managed to get to the third round twice. Also I encountered a bug I think, I took Grunt and Wrex in with me for a match and they didn't do anything, they just stood there beside me and made no attempt to fight. I didn't notice if my other squadmates did it, but it would explain why I was having such a hard time of things.

Spamming Warp and Flare has been my best damaging run, But they keep managing to draw me out of cover with there goddamned power spams. I also think the game removed cooldowns for their abilities, im seeing the adpet shepards firing warp like every other second.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

People have reported that Grunt and Wrex have behaved strangely on Mirror. Not sure what the deal is.

Do you have any weapons DLC? If you have the Typhoon people say that is a good way to go.

I have done Mirror only with Soldier and my No Charge Novaguard. But as above there are certain principles to stick with. Use soft cover and right hand advantage when possible. Engage at range so you deal with fewer at once. Watch their powers since they can knock you out of cover depending on how close to the edge you are.

For an Adept I might consider Javik and Miranda, or Samara and Miranda if you don't have Javik. Spec Miranda fully into Overload and Warp. Spec Samara into Reave. Then I would try to throw spam. Cast Dark Channel, then Throw to detonate. Or whatever power. Miri can either prime them when shielded, or strip their shields (probably better). As I said, you probably need to be in soft cover to use your powers since they like to hit you with theirs if you try to cast from cover (animation time is a killer). Soft cover means you can cast and dodge instantly if need be.

My first run through on the mirror match I used Garrus and Wrex.  For Wrex I pretty much had to plant him in the middle of the spawn for him to attack the mirrors.  For some reason if he was too far away he would just stand there and try to snipe with his claymore which was totally ineffective.  My proceeding run throughs I used Garrus and James along with my soldier Shepard all armed with Typhoons, it went pretty smoothly.  I picked the fatal error map so I could pretty much position myself in a good firing position between rounds.  I used Garrus' overload to strip and James' carnage to takedown armor.  I carried only the Typhoon because I was spamming AR all the time in order to control the recoil make sure my rounds hit their intended targets.  I was using the nightmare armor and I still had about 400 rounds left at the end of the match.  I also had no medigel, no ammo, and enemy damage and shield buffs on.  I may try the weaken shield option but that means I pretty much have to keep my head down the entire match possibly.

That is exactly what it means.  I did full bonus with my No Charge Novaguard.  The Engineers will nearly instakill you with their super Hurricane.  Soft cover and right hand advantage help though.

I understand soft cover, but what is right hand advantage?  Do you mean cover on your right hand side?

Not to necro the thread, but I wanted to say thanks for all the advice, I just completed the match and got the achievement. :D No modifiers except +10 player damage, used Kaidan for shield overloading and reaving (and because he's good at not dying) and James with a typhoon - random map gave me Wingman which worked well because it's long, and I mostly used a sniper rifle as a soldier Shep to finish them off from the greatest distance possible (along with a few medigels and shield boosts). XD Success!

Kasumi is preaty viable. I lost my very first match at the end of wave three (that hurricane is a killer XD), but then one my second match. This was done on hardcore. I also used wrex, but he kinda just stood there and occasionally heavy melee'd some of them.

Hmm didn't see this at the time...

The two things go together.  You have the soft cover sort of on your left side, and can shoot around it on the right, since Shepard is right handed.

^^ Yeah it's a hitbox thing. Because the character model is right handed you can shoot around cover to your left without actually being in-cover. This lets you be more mobile and has the bonus of absorbing a lot of incoming fire when shooting (since you're partially occluded, as opposed to totally exposed when you're shooting from hard cover).

Basically it's the way cover worked (and still does) in non cover-based shooters.
