Next Mass Effect game should be about space pirates or something similar to that

I would like to see a change from the usual "Save the Galaxy" plotline into something a bit more personal, a bit like DA2 but a little better structured. Sometimes I've had enough of having to be a godamned hero for everybody else.

^And getting annoyed by being against the world to save it.

Overdone plotline, why not just have adventure with personal stakes instead for a change?

I've said it before, but I'll explain my idea again.

I think the next game should take place shortly after ME3, when the relays and citadel have been repaired. It would be a fresh start for the whole galaxy, which leaves room for so many different possibilities with the story. New races stepping up, mercenaries and pirates terrorizing colonies, rebuilding war-torn planets...

I agree the story should be smaller and more personal. I think the writers should look to the Uncharted series. The plots have a lighthearted side, which Bioware seems to do best. It shouldn't be about working to the ending, but about the excitement and adventure on the way.

Adventure is necessary. I want a more open world. The main character could be a mercenary, citadel agent, assassin, another spectre, etc. Anyone who isn't tied down by military restrictions.

Also, I really hope they keep some of the old characters. I want to know what happens to Garrus after the war. Does Tali return to her people? Does Liara return to working as an archaeologist? The characters have more life in them - it would be sad to abandon all of them.

But then we're getting into whole ending and canonizing debacle.
You're not only canonizing endings but also Tuchanka and Rannoch choices.

Also ME universe is very huge and has a lot of things to explore even before Shepard get's born.
Next ME game can easily be set before Reaper invasion timeline and still have huge content to explore in more then one game.

Going post-ending just for small cameos of our original trilogy crew is not worth it.

Yeah, it would require some canonizing. I'm fine with that. They could get away with vague references. Synthesis would be the only ending to be thrown out. Plus the era after ME3 is a lot more open. Everything before the trilogy is in the codex already.

One interesting thing...
The team that worked on the last game keeps giving absolutes about what ME4 will be.
Yet Montreal is practically contradicting them. They have said it's early in development and things haven't been decided.

Thing is, majority of people would not be happy with that. So no.

@spirosz
I guess Jack could be in, though she wouldn't have any development from ME2 and ME3 nor it can't get.

The majority that I have seen want the next game to be a sequel.

Like this idea. Mass Effect to me is at its best when its exploring its galaxy and its characters. The Space Pirate setting is an excellent opportunity to do both.

Thing is, this majority also has conflicting ideas what should carry over in sequel.

No matter what is chosen for canon, majority will get pissed.

How about a Spectre, they can already do what they want.

Fans will get annoyed no matter what after ME3.

I have hope for Montreal though. With some good writing, they can make a sequel work.
Honestly, I think a sequel is the most sensible choice. The setting gives a lot more flexibility for the writers, so that's the way I see Montreal going.

careful you don't raid any planets, You might just make a vengeful bounty hunter or units of vengeful orphan super soldiers after your head.

Restricted to Council space and have to answer to the Council.
And you'll have to have big importance to galaxy, for Spectre status to matter.

Do you know what two series I referenced, it would be cool, not to the player character though.

I don't think I'd be very interested in playing an actual pirate. Pirates are bad guys, I don't want to be the bad guy.

Though you could maybe make them a mercenary with some opportunities to either turn pirate, or to stick to protecting the various colonies in the terminus systems from pirates and slavers depending on player choice.

As long as I can interact with a lot of aliens and the story isn't revolving around the humans all the time, since I think the aliens are more interesting, I'm good.

Would love it if they did what Assassin's Creed 3 did and they add a variety of ship missions with epic battles to the next game because I freaking love that scene in ME3 before you land on Earth where in space you see all the ships arrive and just trade lasers with the reapers.

If these rumors about space pirates are to be believed, you can find the plot for the next game here.
