where you begin the quest, check the fallen hanging cages for a charred corpse.

It sounds like the chest that the Ostagar prisoner gives you the key for. If that's the case, you can find him behind where Ser Jory is standing near the army encampment.  But........uh.......I hope you don't have a weak stomach......that's all I'm gonna say.  Oh, and take Alistair with you.  He says some really funny things about where the prisoner gets the key.

wow, so the key was the first thing I found, but where's the chest? Now I'm backtracking.

Near the tranquil guy.  You can't get into the chest right away though because the tranquil won't let you.  I think you've got to do the Kocari Wilds thing first. Then when you return to camp, the tranquil will have walked away to talk to Wynne or something and then you can unlock the chest.

ok, i had gotten the key and opened the chest in the beginning when you start in Ostagar. I'm now returning to Ostagar, I see the cage and the corpse, but nothing is there to interact with. I see the Mage's Chest and it's glittering like I can interact with it, but no key. My guess is you either open it the first time or the second but not twice in the same character's game. If someone has gotten the key twice, I'd like to know how

It does look like those who never did the "Prisoner" quest originally in Ostagar have a chance now to get the key.  However I already did this quest and now feel slightly penalised

For those who can open the chest, what sort of gear are we missing?   I really hope there is no DLC content in it

It was all the same stuff with an additional mage hat.  Did you check the chest to see if there was anything in it? I haven't tried it on my character that had already done that quest.

I found the charred corpse but there was no glitter to indicate that I could pick up anything.



I think that chest is just there to tease us.

There's probably a codex in the chest that says "400 MS Points down the drain ha...ha...ha... shouldve skipped and waited for AWAKENING HAHA!" I could be wrong about the codex though.

I can find no cage with a charred corpse, nor any other item, corpse, remains or anything that has a key for the chest. I did have the original key and opened that chest, I wonder...??
