"Cool now I will get to know why ME2 started from where it did and what's the deal with reapers". Yeah I started the series from the second game ![]()
I do remember that I lol'd when Jenkins died. First contact and the guy dies from freaking geth drones, what a true mvp.

A true foreshadowing of Prime turret / drone BS. He will be remembered.

Fun game, but sooo sci-fi. Don't think I'll ever play it again.
Yeah, I've never been a sci-fi fan, but I got hooked when I played through the Trilogy, and now I love the series and I currently replay everything.

My first thought was that it had nice music. My second was that the combat was weird (it took me half the game to get used to it). My thoughts a couple of hours in were tears of frustration because I had forgotten to save and I lost like 2 hours of progress.

I loved ME1 from the moment I saw FemShep walking to the cockpit of the Normandy in the opening scene.
This.
..but I needed two attempts because it was my first "shooter" and I had.. ahem.. problems to shoot with a pistol - to kill people with a pistol.
I know, I know... My Dragon Age characters are killing people with an axe or sword but that is, I know that will sound silly or ridiculous, is more fantasy.
To use a kind of real weapon is more realistic and because of that I stopped very soon my first playthrough and tried a new one a few months later.
So I had an uneven start with the game but since then I really like the ME series and especially ME1 ![]()

Honestly? I thought the side missions were tedious and I will always loathe the Mako. Always. That thing haunts my dreams, I'm telling you. Especially on planets with an abundance of mountains that are impossible to maneuver around/over. Absolutely terrible.
Fuckin' Thresher Maws too. What is this, Tremors? Love killing them. Hate when they catch me off guard (read: every single time they show up).
I probably would have given up on it were it not for the fact that I was (and still am) so invested in my custom Shepard and his story line. Kudos to BioWare for absolutely sucking me into the storyline while simultaneously causing me to curse the very existence of Mass Effect.
I can’t believe that discussing this is making me want to play through the first one again.

I couldn't help but think of Kotor...
Although they're nothing alike in retrospect.
Also... I instantly enjoyed talking to the NPCs once I hit the Citadel. Pretty sure that Din Korlack was the first I spoke to.

Wow. That was like 7 years ago. At first, I thought it kinda dull. For about an hour and a half. Then I started doing missions. Then I got deep into the story. I played on the 360 when the game was still exclusive to the 360. (It was designed for that controller, which explains some things). There were moments where, I just went, wow! Oh, Wow. I can't make that decision! And the goosebumps I got at the closing credits, were overwhelming. I was hooked. I ended up getting every achiev on the 360.
Lately, I bought the trilogy on the PC, now that I have a real computer. The differences? It takes some getting used to the keyboard/mouse thing, but with a naga the hotkey things work real nice. the Mako...sorry folks, it's just easier with a console controller. Truly it is. I don't mind exploring the planets. Half the deposits of minerals are not marked, and you have to drive around to find them. I just pretend I'm driving a dune buggy like in the Calif. Desert. *shrug* The thing with the minerals is they make you credits, and early on in the game, those are quite helpful. I still don't like nearly having a heart attack when a darned thresher maw comes up unexpectedly. Oh, and the graphics, on my PC, even at the highest res, the game isn't full screen, it can't fill it, but it's big enough ..and there's tons of detail not in the console version. Tons. The graphics are WAY better on the PC. But the game was def. not designed for 1080P. Maybe 2 or 3 will do that. Still, the difference in graphics is huge. Lots of little details that just aren't visible in consoles.
Did you know there is a planet that has 2 thresher maws?
Did you know there's a cow that steals your change?
that in one warehouse, there's loot on top of the stacks of crates?
I miss all the boosts I got from having done all the storylines, all the 10% power or exp boosts, plus having the Spectre gear available at the beginning. I forgot what it was like to do a first playthrough. But it's still fun. And it's a nice change of pace from some of the mmo-tards I deal with at times.
I'm only really playing through again so I can get to 3 with a character I have shaped, as I haven't played 3 yet. Yeah, I know. But I was busy in MMO land.
Any rate, for some of us, Mass Effect will never completely grow old. I even just talked a friend into trying it for the first time last week. Because the story was worth it. And he likes awesome cutscenes. He's in for a pleasant surprise.

I'm pretty sure I immediately went onto a M4 Part II Faunts video and commented this:
"I finally got Mass Effect this year and just finished it. I'm holding onto this memory. What an awesome feeling. Loss. Revelation. Love. Desperation. Climax. Triumph."
A little theatrical... but yes, I enjoyed it.

Oh man where should I begin... I have played DAO already but I have never heard of Mass Effect (November 2011). I hated the sci-fi genre and beside Star Wars I ignored it completely. Mainly I was playing middle age fantasy games, most notably WoW but I was intrigued by StarCraft because it was Blizz game. I started playing SCWoL and I was immersed right after the first mission but I didn't know anything about the story. I got SC and Brood Wars and completed them and after them I returned to continue WoL. It is awesome game but I felt somehow empty inside me because this wasn't my story, it was Jim's. So I took interest in sci-fi and BAM I saw ME3 previews (February 2012) and it had exactly what I wanted, epic story with myself at the center of it. But as with every game, I begin from the beginning so I took ME and wow it was everything that I expected to be and even more. I can't really describe what were my thoughts... epic, awesome? All those overused words. The rest is history, ME is my fav franchise and sci-fi is my fav genre.

Bought it when it was on sale on the xbox last year. I was almost immediately hooked with the atmosphere and story. It was the first RPG game with unique dialogue options.
I remember getting so lost in the Citadel for a day or two. "Where's the Wards Access? I'm sure the medbay is... nope. I can't remember where Jenna is! Who the heck is Tali? She looks weird!"
Loved the Mako at first, but quickly grew to loathe it every time I was dropped onto the surface in it. Always despised the guns and combat system. Loved nearly all the characters, took Garrus and Tali with me on every possible mission.
When I finished the game I wanted to play ME2 immediately, but since it can't be downloaded from xbox live and I was too sick to go out, I just played it all over again until I was well enough to go out and get the box set.
When I finished the trilogy I remember looking back at it with fond memories and several months later I picked it up again. Hated it.

I bought ME1 for ~$10 as a budget game some months before DA:O came out. It was cheap and my brother recommended it. I remember not being terribly psyched to get into it and became less so after realizing that the character creator was pretty limited. I was coming off a long stint on City of Heroes (aka one of the most expansive character creation systems in a game). Nonetheless I plowed through rolling a custom male Infiltrator and set out. Somewhere around the spaceport at Eden Prime I exited and was finished. It all felt pretty bland to me and the gameplay didn't really draw me in. I think I went back to play CoH some more.
DA:O came out advertised as the spiritual legacy of Baldur's Gate and I immediately got it, played it, and loved it. The DAO ending had true emotional impact on me. But moving through medieval fantasy games as a genre is tough for me and I couldn't see myself doing an immediate replay. Crap. What to do?
Well, I guess I could give my neglected copy of ME1 another go. I mean it's an acclaimed game by Bioware. Surely, if it was at least half as powerful a story as DAO then it would be worth my time right?
It turned out if I had just made it through to the Citadel that first time I would have been all right. Because that was the turning point. As someone who had long burned out on castles and dungeons, the sheer scale of the Citadel in ME1 (still my favourite incarnation), the freshness of it's light (vs. torchlit gloom), and new races (vs. dwarves/elves) drew me in. From there ME1 rapidly showed me enough of the story elements I liked to keep me going. From Virmire on the pacing was relentless, the story choices meaningful, and the shock of the return to the Citadel a gaming highlight. The last few hours of ME1 are standout. I honestly don't remember the last few hours of DA:O any more.
From there, on to my favourite single RPG of all time - ME2 - and then the bittersweet of ME3 (my favourite multiplayer FPS of all time).
ME1 will never be my favourite to play mechanically, but it laid all the foundation and if I like ME2 better then at least storywise it's because ME1 set the stage. So glad I started the series at ME1.

It was when it got PC release, 2008 IIRC.
"Ooo female character has Jennifer Hale's voice! Whatever i do in character creation looks alike Megan Fox, well i'm not complaining heh. Wow nice beginning, well done Bioware!"
Then at Citadel:
"Okay now hold on. Swap Spectre with Jedi, Saren with Malak, council is same old whiners who simply wait for things to happen since SW:Episode 1... Hmm it is KOTOR 1 over over again! At least jedi had powers spectres are a title with no real rewards except a few guns and armor"
So i quitted, not only once but a few times. Also i really wondered why people hailed this game as good? It was reskin of KOTOR!!1!!
Then i realised there were similarities but ME was a different beast. Glad i realised that sooner or later. I learned that Bioware loves to hail their older games in style and easter eggs.(http://dragonage.wik...d_Limit_Reached)
I'd hate to miss out one of my favourite series.

I came very, very late to the party. I thought it was a pretty old game, but I'd heard the story was nice so I went with it. Anyway the graphics are not so bad at all.
Little did I know that I was starting and obsession, and discovering my favourite game franchise ever. I can't explain what I feel when playing Mass Effect. I just get sucked into the story like no other game I've ever played. It's special. It's a beautiful universe. Makes you feel all fuzzy inside (and desperately sad at times). It's incredible that a game can make you feel like that, isn't it?

I loved it instantly. From the moment I first heard the music at the options screen I was in love with it. I felt like an honest to gawd space missionary or traveler. I already listened to tons of ambient music and it makes me feel like I'm already out there on some space trawler plying my trade and seeing the galaxies.
The space opera context of it made it seem like an enormous world that I was paying a small part in and was ages away from seeing the whole of. That's a must for me in any new CRPG and that's what ME came off as, immediately. Never a shooter. I was a bit intimidated by the inventory and especially the power system. I forget what they call the actual magic tricks and abilities now - been a while since I've done anything with ME, even ME3. It took me a little over a week to get comfortable in any way with the teammate orders and attack assignment system. That wheel or whatever it was. Thing was a pain in the ass.
Then I saw the Mako and realized I was going to get to explore. There was no looking back after that. I knew I would be with this series until they inevitably burned us up like toast with a gyp ending or mid-story deus ex machina or something. Man was I wrong....
LOL!
