I am looking at what each of the 6 classes can potentially do, not their powers from Mass Effect games.
What kind of jobs outside of the millitary would each class be good at?
I am taking these 6 classes and putting them in the real world during the present day.
Adept
The adepts are best at moving objects with their minds. Since they specialise in "biotics" they will be better than their vanguard and sentinel counterparts.
Potential professions include rescue operations. Have someone burried under rubble, use biotics to pull them out.
In a burning building, use stasis fields to prevent building from collapsing. Use non lethal pull fields to get people out of the building. See someone trapped, use a lift field to rescue them.
In the construction industry, an adept could be useful for all heavy lifting actions too.

Engineer
The engineer is the the expert at anything that is omnitool related.
This includes, hacking, putting out fires with cryo powers, medical training, building and repair. You name it, the engineer has some application on their omnitool that can suffice.
Whilst infiltrators and sentinels can both excel at anything omni-tool related, they are not as quick or effective as their engineer countarparts.
The engineer is a good medic which involves:
Use of omnigel,
Revive ability,
Maintaining,
Using and repairing medical equipment
and also scanning the body.
Manufacturing, building, repairing, welding, becoming a qualified electrician, using technical wizardry to catch criminals. The list goes on and on.
_________________________________________________________________________________________
Soldier: The soldier is a natural athlete, with great strength, agility and speed.
Combine that with immense focus and concentration to the point of slowing down time "time dilation", a natural ability to buff up their resilance with "immunity" ability and you have a very valuable contributor to society.
I am not going to suggest sport. Immunity and adrenaline rush give the soldier an unfair advantage. An even bigger advantage than steroids.
Soldiers are great additions to the police force, fire fighters and also work well as lifeguards. If the Mass Effect soldier is already good at swimming, their adrenaline rush can further boost their ability to save lives.
Imagine a soldier rushing into a fire with immunity active. Suddenly the smoke from the burning building isn't quite as dangerous.
_________________________________________________________________________________________
Infiltrator:
The infiltrator can do everything the engineer can do (see engineer) but nowhere near as effectively.
The infiltrator however has learnt a few useful abilities to make up for their lack of omnitool proficency.
They have immunity and have a state of the art camoflage technology known as "tactical cloak".
Not only does this "tactical cloak" provide the infiltrator with improved stealth, they can also get buffs to their physical strength too.
I am not going to recommend secret service related jobs since those are technically an arm of the millitary (in the UK secret service is known as Millitary Intelligence). So I guess a good role for stealth is the police force.
Want to film a secret meeting between organised criminals? Send an infiltrator.
Want to upload over 80 giga bytes of information in record time. Send an infiltrator.
No combat necessary. The infiltrator will go in and out with the criminals being none the wiser.
_________________________________________________________________________________________
Vanguard:
Pretty much what the adept can do, but with a bit of extra agility. The vanguard isn't as biotically proficient as the adept, but with greater physical force and the ability to physically propell oneself through walls over long distances.
A good application of a vanguard is when you are trying to save someone who is drowning in the see, send the vanguard to biotically charge several metres, grab the person then charge back to the boat.
See a thief who is trying to make a quick getaway. Biotically charge into the thief's car. Might be a little dangerous.
_________________________________________________________________________________________
Sentinel:
The engineer is already a very versatile class.
Combine this with the ability to use biotics and you get the sentinel.
The sentinel would be the best suited to fire fighting.
Not only can they use biotic fields to rescue people, they have medical training, the ability to use cryo powers to put out fires and can prevent burning buildings from collapsing.
I know there are millions of different functions for a sentinel, but I must emphasise the fire fighter/relief worker roles that the sentinel can provide.

In real life, outside of the military, what roles do you think best suit the 6 classes?

I think Sentinels would be very useful for riots maybe.

the infiltrator is the classic assassin and/or spy.

Maybe infiltrators as detectives?

Adept, Soldier, Vanguard and Infiltrator: Police Officer
Engineer: Any job in the tech sector.
Sentinel: Just about any job.
And they can all teach what they know, so list Teacher for all of them.

Good career choices for infiltrators.

The reason I did this thread was because I was wondering what the 6 classes would do outside the military.
If I hypothetically had the abilities of any of the 6 classes, I wouldn't want to use them for combat. I'd rather do something non-combat related.
I would love to see a Mass Effect game that explores what the classes can do outside of combat.
There is one moment in Omega DLC where the Engineer get's his/her epic non-combat moment. Saves many lives. No bullets fired. No tech powers deployed. Just their tech proficiency being used to do something the other five classes couldn't do.
Seriously it was the first time I used the term "badass" to describe an action that didn't involve kicking someone's butt.
If Mass Effect 4 had little combat but had innovative class specific actions and class specific puzzles, I would be so excited!
