The elves can't out-mage humans. The Chantry is always on the look out for maleficars and apostates. If they find out that the elves are breeding more mages, they will immediately call for an exalted march.

But the Chantry doesn't govern the mages of the Dalish, they don't have phylacteries for them, nor do they seem to keep an eye on them or they might have noticed how old Zatharian was.  The Dalish seem to have autonomy over their mages, they even seem to be able to protect a few elven apostates  (Wynne's former student).  Unless the Templars do a census every few years, which is hard to do with nomads, how do they know how many mages the Dalish have?  Magic does seem to be heriditary, Wynne suggests as much when she talks about how the Chantry discourages mages from having children.  It does require a great deal of secrecy, but no more than any other weapon's research project in history.  It's not much but it's about the only hope the Dalish have to gain a tactical edge against the humans.

A good enough assassin could kill the right Arl or Bann, at the right time, and get their family convinced a rival was to blame. With the right mix of civil wars, I could find the right human leader to set up to be king/queen, one open to equality between humans and elves. Hopefully the alienage wouldn't get trampled in all the mess (I'd be assuming I could go personally undiscovered the whole time).

The problem with past attempts to have equality between human and elves is it is not just the humans fault.  The Elven people will disappear if the assimilate with the humans so they have to remain separate...which sorta precludes the races ever living peacefully together in equality.  Neither the Dalish nor the Alienage Elves have ever even said they want that I don't think.

The situation is more complicated than 'Humans bad, elves good'.

Then seperate but equal is the elves goal.. in which case it can be achieved by my plan.  Having personal power behind a human throne.

just because people are opressed doesnt mean they cant rebel serious does nobody read history.

The Humans and the Elves have fought constantly in Dragon Age history and the Elves have lost everytime (the exception being when they joined up with Andraste to fight the Imperium...and even then it did not end well).

People usually become oppressed because they lose, you might read some history yourself.

i know they lost 2 wars because of the intel ingame but i cant find any more history other then that.

Recruiting help from the Mage tower is actually not a very good plan at all. sure there have been some dissenters in the tower wanting more freedom, but you missed a part of the game if you don't realize that currently there are extremely few dissenters in the tower. Virually all the important ones who wanted to break free died with Uldred. It is only the loyal ones who resisted long enough to survive Uldred's madness who are left. At best you can recruit that whining redhead I always seem to pardon...

I suppose the first thing the elves need to do if they are going to have a hope in hell of winning sch a war is to crosstrain an archer regiment into mining prospectors, because you need to find a huge gold mine to finance all the wild schemes I've seen here...
