I used to be able to pick destroy without s second thought, just markig the Geth and EDI a casualty of war, a sacrifice that would be honored by many.

So, I did my newest playthrough, after brokering the peace between the Geth and Quarians, and spending time and bonding with EDi in the DLC, it was not so easy.

I made it to the Catalyst and I sat there, with my game paused, for a good 15 minutes, argueing with myself about wether i should go with Destroy or Control.

In the end, i still picked Destroy, but after spending the time with EDI in the DLC, it made this choice much harder for me.

I still don't like EDI, my opinion of it will never change.

I know how you feel. I have chosen destroy every time since the game launched, but after the dlc I have been debating whether or not to pick control. Im most likely going to stick with destroy but damn the Citadel dlc is making this hard for me.

I like to think that the Reapers are dead and the party is the final event that happens, with EDI alive.

*sigh*

But I just finished doing a run through today as well, that part was very difficult on me.

Do a few of both! Me, I've liked control this whole time... Partially because (especially before the EC) it does a great job of preserving the universe without some superfluous murder, change, or randomized breaking things. I'm just now working my way through the DLC, but .... Well, as much as I love Shepard, I suspect that my ultimate edition will once again be grabbing the switches and dying for the galaxy. X3

Yeah, Control definitely looks more appealing. After all the times EDI helped against the Collectors in ME2 and against Cerberus on Cronos, and then all that bonding in Citadel... I really don't want her to die.

I mourn the loss of EDI and the Geth whom I have come to respect (or Shepard did #same)

But it does not stop me from picking destroy, I can live with these two last sacrifices to give the galaxy the freedom to choose its own future.

Agreed OP, Citadel made me appreciate EDI as a character a lot more.

If EDI and the Geth had been willing to sacrifice themselves there wouldn't be any contest for most people on which ending to pick, would there? I think what turns most people off is Shepard picking their fate for them, just after they win their right to exist among the organics as equals.
Isn't it ironic how Destroying Synthetics is the solution to the Reaper threat against the organic species, while the purpose of the reapers is to be the solution to the conflict of organics and synthetics, which it accomplishes by destroying organics. Who knows what future conflicts or consequences will erupt from this Destroy event?

When I first played Bring Down The Sky, I tried both outcomes. I spoke with Kate Bowman, learned that it was her brother we saw executed earlier, got a sense of who this woman was who was brave enough to break radio silence to try to give me intel.

I then reloaded the save before that, and did what I knew was right - sacrificed her life and that of the other two engineers to thwart Balak's escape, and deliver him to Alliance custody. I knew who I was sacrificing. As much as it hurts, as cold as it may sound, I knew it was the right choice.

That perspective, that humanizing conversation, puts the weight of the choice in focus. Her sacrifice is not an easy thing to stomach, but I know it has to be done. It is no different with EDI now. Seeing the humanity she gains, shaped by your influence... it does not sway my ultimate decision for even a moment's pause, but it brings the true weight of it to light.

I have to applaud the writing in that it makes you care about these people to such a degree.

I didn't change my ending choice at all, still destory.

EDI is artificial. I'll build Joker another sexbot after the war. And one that doesn't repeat the same terrible joke.

How do people have all this time that they can replay and replay and sit for 15 minutes deciding on a choice!

Still destroy, yes. Who would keep an armada of Reapers and millions of Geth alive (sure, for now they are friendly...) just because of one nice AI.

I like both destroy and control. But I don't see why we couldn't rebuild the geth and EDI, they're machines they can't die. I'm sure both EDI and the geth had some sort of backup program.

I still shot that tube out without a second's hesitation. If anything, Citadel made me realize what it is I'm going back to once, you know, I climb out of the rubble: obviously a long hospitalization, but probably a lot of medals and press conferences and visitations...and of course that sweet apartment (none of this is shown, of course, but it's a logical extrapolation).

The DLC just made me really want to survive and go back so I can dance with Garrus again.

And beat Zaeed at the crane machine. >:D
